There is a convenient coffee stop with Chargepoint 60kw chargers that never go over 50kw. There are also some older Superchargers that aren’t on our charging map. The 10 Rivian chargers would be a welcome addition!

    I could see turning off plug and charge and using the fordpass app vs Tesla if say I had benefits with EA that are not available via plug and charge and I didn't want to mess with turning that off/on when I used a different plug and charge capable network like Tesla.
    I am with you though, 9/10 folks will want just plug and charge for the speed and simplicity. My wife for sure would want that.

  • @ronb4633
    @ronb4633 5 месяцев назад

    Patrick, I believe the Tesla idle fees are only incurred if the supercharger is at 50% or higher utilization. I think that is spelled out more clearly inside the Tesla app.
    They are also rolling out congestion charges where they charge a higher rate per kWh if you charge above 80% and the supercharger is very utilized. I think that is a very cool idea.

    • @MachE_VLOG
      @MachE_VLOG  5 месяцев назад

      You are correct and they double if the station reaches 100% full. We're going to get into a detailed pricing breakdown in another video but until then we want to emphasize there will be idle fees to make sure people don't get surprised. EA has warnings about idle fees but the never used to collect them. Tesla does. The guy we spoke to at Quartzsite fell asleep in his car one time and had a $100 idle fee bill!

    I just bought the Lectron NACS to CCS1 adapter (I like how the NACS release works on this better than the Ford adapter). We took it to a Tesal super charger yesterday for a test run before a road trip next week and Plug and Charge definitely did not work for us. We got some kind of error message indicating an 'external error', despite making sure that we had everything setup and enabled for Plug and Charge. We ended up figuring out how to activate the charger through the Ford Pass app, but kind of disappointed that Plug and Charge is not more reliable. :-/

    • @Crisbas45
      @Crisbas45 5 месяцев назад +1

      Excellent good etiquette will be so important especially in these early days of adoption. Please stress this in all of your videos I think it’s critical. Ie: with superchargers it’s polite to use every other charger as stall A& B share the same power source using both reduces your charge rate this I think is true on v2’s but you would be surprised how many Tesla owners don’t know this. V3 not a problem but the way you parked even with 60 stalls it’s just really good that your concerned about this. When you visit an 8 or 12 stall station it could be a problem
      I sure hope all the manufacturers more their charge ports

    • @MachE_VLOG
      @MachE_VLOG  5 месяцев назад +2

      @@Crisbas45 For non-Teslas, we can only use V3 and V4 stations. They do not power share so you can park right next to someone and it makes 0 difference. It is actually good for non-Teslas with the charge port on the opposite side to stick together because it will reduce the number of unusable spaces used overall.

    I assume the plug-and-charge method is configured to transmit your VIN to Tesla to approve your session and apply the fee to your Tesla account, right? It's interesting that my Tesla app already asked me about my EV, and I filled in the blanks for my Ioniq 5. The only thing I didn't indicate is that I don't already have an adapter. They're 2 different protocols and Ford wants you to use the ISO 15118 so called "plug and charge" protocol meant for EA through Ford's own app which would have your billing info. I guess if the majority of their EV drivers use the Supercharger network more often from now on and all let Ford know, then perhaps Ford will change their minds.
      But after you first set it up, using the Tesla app only takes as long as the time it takes you to get your phone out and select the correct charger. Most stations are not 100 plus stalls. Not yet, anyway. So only an additional 5 to 10 seconds.

I looked up a station just east of Topeka, KS that's open to non-Tesla's and they charge $0.46 kWh for non-Tesla's without a membership and $0.34 kWh to Tesla's and non-Tesla's with a membership.
