Clive is a very very fine guitarist, make no mistake about it. However to suggest he is the finest guitarist alive is IMHO a stretch to far. He is superb but there are many very fine players out there, one Tommy Emmanuel comes immediately to mind and ears, and he is without doubt one of the finest. A lovely guy also.
What a treat! I enjoyed hearing all those stories about John Renbourn as I have been a fan of Johns work for decades. Clive's interpretations of John's songs are deep and his execution is flawless. I can think of no better guitar player alive today to record Renbourn's wonderful compositions.
Clive's new CD regarding the Renbourn project is fantastic - very well recorded and excellent choice of material and very well put together. To be honest much better than I was expecting. Well worth a listen,
I Love Clive's Playing and his beautiful renditions of John's tunes. He is truly a master - I have also continally wondered aghast at the way, seemingly uniquely, that John Renbourn played these tunes. He could glide notes In a way that I've never heard anybody else do and would often hum along with the playing as if he were a part of the music, completely lost in and commited to the delivery. His playing was sublime and I miss him even though I never met him. RIP John. Your legacy is in safe hands.
I saw him around that time also, in Dartford. After the gig, he came out into the bar and was wandering about talking to people, like he was just some random guy, rather than the guitar genius that he was. People say you should never meet your heroes, but he was absolutely lovely, and it's a memory I truly cherish.
Saw Clive and Dariush last night. Incredible performance. He's a truly amazing talent. I would love to get some insight into his practice schedule, I'll pick his brains at some point. Highly highly recommend you see this tour if you can. I've been a massive Renbourn fan for many years as you can see from the type of content I've recorded on RUclips, but a lot of the material played by Clive came across as fresh material. I think John would be very pleased with it. (I think Ralph Bown was sat a seat away from me)
Great playing Clive as always. You’ve introduced me to Johns music and there’s a lot to be enjoyed, thanks for that. Your concert two nights ago at New Milton was a pleasure, catch you next year somewhere I’m sure
What beautiful playing! I first heard Estampie on Gryphon's debut album in the early seventies and found Clive's performance of it totally captivating. That Bown sounds exquisite as well 😊
Superb playing from Clive as usual. I would wholeheartedly recommend his 2-CD tribute to John Renbourn which is called The Abbot. It's absolutely brilliant and what a wonderful sound from that Ralph Bown guitar.
I just simply loves the way he plays and breaks down the pieces he plays ❤ I would love to hear Clive and Tommy Emmanuel collaborate. That would be awesome 🎉
I’ve been playing for sixty years, and actually once spent a day with JR in his home studio: I know of no other living guitarist with Clive’s talent, touch and phenomenal ability. His timing in particular is to-die-for, and his sheer musicality is far removed from the purely mechanical ‘being-able-to-play-the-right-notes-in-the-right-order’ that most of us strive for and are satisfied with. IMHO he’s actually *better* than JR (probably blasphemy, but sincerely meant).
Clive is just a fantastic guitarist. His new Renbourn project is very exciting. But as for the title of this video, maybe "with analysis" should be deleted. I enjoyed all the conversation about guitars but I was expecting/hoping for some tips on how to play the pieces.
Clive is simply the finest acoustic guitarist alive today.
Oh get out of town
Absolutely true

Superb! I was fortunate enough to see John Renbourn in 2012, I think it was, in Bury. Amazing night.

I saw Clive and Dariush last month and agree with every word you say. An excellent gig.
Arise, Sir Clivealot! Fantastic playing and interview
Beautiful playing simply perfectionism.🤩👍
Wow what a sound. The voice separation is amazing, crystal clear, piano-like.
You have such a beautiful touch.
This was hugely inspiring! Thank you both! 🙏

Magnifico, grande Clive

You'd hope so, as those things cost around £7,000.
Amazing intuitive player. I was fortunate enough to see Clive supporting Tommy Emmanuel in Salisbury some years ago. Stunning!
Love Clive's playing, you always end up learning something from just watching and listening to him play. A real master musician.
Fantastic!
Such terrific talent & super nice person. I took some classes from Clive at Swannanoa Gathering. Great talent/super guy!
One of the best ! Playing and composing !
Nice that you're doing this.

Agreed the CD is wonderful and deserves to be receiving much more critical acclaim.
Lovely. Makes me feel like I play with a fist of thumbs.

And by the magic of the internet. .

just wonderfull
The cd is wonderful. Many of us are hoping to hear more of the thousands of pages of music Renbourn wrote and never performed.
This is great, superb playing.
Clive is brilliant.
Stunning.
Wow fantastic
Wonderful!
Masterful 👍🏻

Omg. What did he do at 12.10??!!!!!! Htf do you make that sound?

Cool! Can you do Tears in Heaven?
I dont get the nut width. Met him, guy was huge, like 6' 5" at least.
Yeah but can he play Smoke on the Water eh??
😂 no doubt
adhd!
Playing this song at breakneck speed is so pointless 😴...not your fault off course..🤔
One can compare it to a tyre burnout on a classic 🚗 car..🤔
magico Clive top
