It actually starts of more happy and mischievous but as it goes on you see it's a lot darker than you think. It's not all blood and pain though, but I think it's an essential part of their character development that has to happen, and the fact they can't love each other without any other worries.

The ending is happy in the novel, so let's hope. So far they follow really closely to the novel although the adaptation is not a dark as the novel.
