The old church is Glossop Parish Church which is over 1,000 years old! I used to sing in the church choir in the 1950's. The building next door to it used to be Duke of Norfolk Primary school. I went there from 1953-57. Old Glossop was featured in the 2013 TV series The Village.
@@1974bora When I was a kid at Duke of Norfolks, the class was brought outside to see the gold cross being installed at the top of the spire. The vicar told us all there that the church was 1,000 years old. I remember that very well.
Great video. The place you started off in is Old Glossop it's the original Glossop before it became what we know now! I moved there 4 yrs ago we love the park and easy access to the town centre. love it
We've got a Burger king, and they're building a Maccies ATM aswell down near the massive tesco right down the bottom of High Street West. The large park you was in is called Manor Park. Glossop is a lot bigger than you think, feel dead lucky living here, Town half an hour one way, Peak District half an hour the other way! Vivienne Westwood went to school here and still has family around the town. Beatrix Potter used to come here a lot as a girl, her Grandsd & Uncle owned a massive factory on the A57 as your leaving Glossop into Hadfield.
I live in Cheadle about half an hour from Glossop. I love Cheadle but the High Street has taken a battering. We are getting a new train station which will help the High Street. Glossop is part of my childhood as we used to go there sledging when we were kids and my parents went antique hunting in Glossop many weekends.I could retire to Glossop but I love Cheadle so who knows.....
Glossop is a nice town but the only problem is the traffic which can be horrendous at peak times. I delivered round there for two years. Greggs was a must but sadly was driving so I couldn’t nip in the pubs.
Cities in the US seem to be opposite to that of the UK. Houses at the center of a town are generally older and as you get to the edge of a town they are newer.
This is particular to Glossop, since it was originally seperate villages which all expanded out and merged together. The centre is sort of the outskirts intersecting together.
@@honestplaces I went to uni in Huddersfield and lived there for 12 years until I moved to Keighley. I don't think its the worst place in the world. But it seems to be going downhill slowly. Vape and charity shops galore like you pointed out. It used to be a decent night out. I'm from a small town in Wales , so Huddersfield was always an upgrade on that place. Which is why I am fond of it a bit more than others. I live in Leeds now and it's better here than Bradford or Huddersfield.
It really is. It is hard to find high streets that have open shops and not all to let! Has a great mixture of everything wanted from all ages and things to do, even if you do have to go out of the centre you still aren't far from the big city with easy access!
@@handybaggy They’ve just refitted my local Aldi - I’m not impressed. All the new fridges - too warm in the store; the impersonal self-service tills; more congested. (There’s always someone like me who’s a Luddite !)
Glad to see the appreciation. Lived in this town my whole life

The church is less than 200 years old but based on a 12 century design.
