  • Why not παράθυρο for window? Net research is proving way beyond my rudimentary Greek.
Any expert assistance on this song would be most welcome. Such a pretty blue remembered tune.
My folks' old LP (French Fontana, ©&℗1967) credits M. Plessas (familiar name) & "Fr. Gérald" (unfamiliar).
This concludes the present Nana burst - worried that Auntie Beeb will get on my tail about steals beyond promotional level.

Nana Mouskouri has such a beautiful voice that has served her well throughout the years (as well as her audience). Hauntingly angelic is the only way i can describe it.

This beautiful song was one of my favourites. It was on a vinyl album of mine, but sadly it disappeared over the years. Wonderful to hear it again, thanks!

"if is my love tell him he came too late and keep my window shuttered"
Completely wonderful, Nana could break the heart of any man with her Beguiling manner.
A perfect woman and I thought they did not exist, sigh !

Παραθύρι is an idiom. Βoth "παράθυρο" and "παραθύρι" became from the word (ancient greek) "παραθύρα". After many many years it became παραθύριον and then παράθυρο. We dont use παραθύρι in our oral speech very often but u can usually find it in poems, lyrics, nuvels etc. I hope I helped u!!!!

Thanks for his beautiful song. Look also for "Makria stin machi san tha pas" which I believe was on the same LP. As for parathyro and parathyri, is just the poet's choice of words. Is the difference between high class and low class way of talking.

I have everything from last weekend's little BBC4 splurge, and as I'm not yet in trouble over these little clips, I might risk posting a little more.
But video recording hardware and tapeware was professional-only kit back when Nana was a regular on UK TV screens. I hope the lack of retail BBC rereleases isn't due to having wiped and reused most of the master tapes.

I know it's 14 years ago, but I hope you _were_ able to post some more clips - as this one (and presumably the others you have from the time) is whole-picture, not cropped to "shortscreen" as most BBC4 material on RUclips is.

Ah well you are too young, never mind, but if you can sing like Nana and hold that air of mystery and presence you will and find the man you deserve Stella ,good luck, from Marco

I think the polite reply is:
But my Greek is/was of the classical kind. If it's not ancient enough for Liddell & Scott, I flounder.
