Super awesome fish and video. The guppy grass looks amazing in this tank, it really seems to bring out good behavior and they look chilled out. I’m seriously considering getting these guys in the future to go along with my multis and perhaps another Tanganyikan in a 75. Thanks for all you do for the hobby, Jason. Take care.
I have multis now and would love a larger Tanganyikan set-up some day…I thought I wanted julidochromis transcriptus in that dream tank, but now you’ve given me more to consider!
Thank you! I have not owned these yet. Wow, they sure are pretty 😍 I like the way they move and interact with eachother. I also like that you can keep a few in a 20 long.
I'm obsessed. I have never seen these fish before. They give me eel vibes, and they're just so pretty. I have a 54 corner tank and can't get the idea of these in the back with rock work, a shell species (I've always wanted shellies before) in the front of the tank and possibly brichardi to help fill in the upper half of the tank.... I think I literally dreamed of this combo last night. 54 corner tank, would this combo work? Thank you!!!
Hi Jason, Very nice aquarium.I was wondering which Auratus strain(location) ,those are. They have the best colours I have seen.I live in London UK. Thank You Dennis
@primetimeaquatics trying my hand at breeding these fish. I bought 4 juveniles online. they're in a 20 gallon long, scaped pretty much to look like your tank in this video... would you keep dither fish in the upper part of the water column to help the breeding process? It worked with my kribensis and some others but I wasn't sure with the julies. Thanks!
Hi. Nice video. I have two of these, I got the smaller one about a week ago & only yesterday I spotted a few babies swimming around in & out of the half coconut shell, the parents are swimming around in & in & out, protecting them. I have them with Rams- T-Bar's - Kribensis - Convicts & a Demasoni. I did have 2 Demasoni but 1 killed the other, it seems it has to be Male & Female together, I messed up there. You think I could have a Neolamprologus leleupi (Lemon Cichlid) or/& Nanochromis Transvestitus? 🇬🇧
It’s an amazing tank setup and a beautiful fish. BTW all your tanks looks great in the fish room tour. I only have to small nano tanks, since I have no place for larger tanks in my two bedroom condo. And I trouble to decide whether to look on ember tetra, endler, plecos and amano shrimp tank or red cherry shrimp tank. So how do you decide what tank to sit and look at? I obviously take it you probably have a large tank in your living room. Another question is can you feed plecos, amano and red cherry shrimp with cucumbers as a treat? I obviously fed them also with pellets It’s funny people refer mostly to water parameters when it comes to fish, but rarely people talk about parameters to plants. Well that’s at least what I’ve experienced
Thank you! You can certainly add cucumber to your tank. Start with small pieces and make sure they finish those before using larger pieces. Joanna does a lot of plant profiles on her channel The Small Scape. She goes over water parameters there. :-)
This is a beautiful set up. I have seen a lot of information about the rock dwelling cichlids and it’s just rock and fish. That’s not very appealing to me. The addition of guppy grass is great. It diffuses the edges of the rocks and it seems as it gives each fish a bubble to feel safe in. So in this 20 long, how many adult fish are in there? Really great tanks. I’m not really into cichlids, but this is a very appealing fish in this setup. Thanks! 🤩
I have 16 of these in a 75 gallon tank. I have tons of lava rock and some plastic gray rock that has caves and holes. I had them in there for 2-3 months. They are around 2-3 inches still kind of small but have seen no breeding action. All of them tend to hang out on one side of the tank. On the other side I have 1 emperor 400 filter. Temperature is 80+ and ph is 8.5ish. Some of the smaller ones have gotten parts of their fins chewed up. How can I get them to breed. Are they still too small??? I do have some guppy grass growing in another tank but didn’t think it would grow in cichlid water. Since I add in cichlid salt.
Hello Jason this is Bethany I'm curious about my brand new 55 gallon freshwater tank fish selection. If you buy all the fish as babies at the same time will they grow happily together and not harm one another. These are the ones we are planning on buying. 1 panda 1 marble & 2 zebra colored Angelfish; 4 Tiger Bards; 6 pictus cats; maybe 2 bala sharks; 2 blue dwarf gouramis; 2 honey dwarf gouramis; 12 cardinal neons; 2 male swordtails; 3 assorted mollies; 4 roseline barbs; 5 spotted corydors; 4 zebra danios; 3 redtail sharks
Hey - I believe we have a 55 gallon community tank stocking ideas video out there that may be helpful. Some of the fish you have listed here will get very aggressive and most likely fight. Others, like the barbs, will be fin nippers. The pictus would most likely be too active for the tank as well. Maybe check that video out? Could be helpful.
I have raised pelvicachromis pulcher kribensis and have a 30 long now with a colony of about 20 half grown fry and 2 females. What are the main differences between this fish and kribs?
The kribensis are all non-rift lake cichlids from West Africa. They tend to like water closer to neutral and a more moderate hardness. They are also nice because they can usually be kept in community tanks due to being less aggressive. They are awesome fish too.
I have a dozen in a 300l with Limia perugiae 3boys 12girls not a normal mix but can easily pull out a dozen babys from each a week rocks plants guppy grass and floating water lettice feed some micro worms 2x daily for babys nothing smaller ever some daph and scuds for adults

Guppy Grass looks awesome.. keeping a single fish type and single plant type in a tank brings out the best of the both 🤩

That would be a cool combo!
Nice buddy, these look great in here, showing good colour
Also, great species profile as always! Thanks!
Thanks for this video! I was wanting more info on these fish! I love them! 😍
What a super tank, the guppy grass looks great and as for the fish they simply look amazing 👌
beautiful fish, love their eyes. Thanks for the info. Be well.

Definitely worth a try!
Awesome fish and another awesome video. ❤🤍💙
great video
I absolutely love this tank. 💛💙💚 guppy grass is becoming a favorite of mine

Nice, very informative, cool fish
I started with 6 of these in my 150g with similis and cyprichromis. The julies colonized the cracks and crevices in my aquadecor background.
Can you do a video on African dwarf frogs (tank mates and all that good stuff)
They're beautiful! I'd just have a single-species tank for them. 😊
Hi Jason, Very nice aquarium.I was wondering which Auratus strain(location) ,those are. They have the best colours I have seen.I live in London UK.
Thank You
Dennis
I don’t have any auratus?
Great species profile! I've been wanting to do a Tanganyikan setup in a 20 long and I'm torn between multis and these... such a hard choice!
Both are great choices!
FIRE VIDEO BRO

I would just leave them on their own. The fry are tiny and could be eaten by other fish (or dither fish killed by protective parents).

I’m not sure I would trust the other demasoni?

It took mine close to two years before they bred for me.
Like the planted tank
I love tangs so muchhhhhh
Love the video

For sure!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks for the reply. I've been thinking about doing that for awhile now.
My tank gets lot of salt deposit on the glass.. is there any way to clear it ..pls suggest
We usually keep our tanks filled to the black rim, so it's not something we see?
i GOT ONE AND WITHIN AWEEK IT TURN ALL DARK GREEN AND BECAME VERY AGRESIVE WITH MY SCALARE, I WAS VERY DISAPOINTED AND GOT RID OF IT.

I've always read J.ornatus wasn t a fish for colony :)
It’s always worked well for us. Haha
