@10:50 Be careful touching/grabbing heat sinks, sometimes they are not earthed and are actually tied to the power rail.

      Definitely. Always unplug before handling

Nice fix, interesting to follow along.

Cheers, I should've also shown the low resistance across the opto was caused by the chip as the new one was a few k ohms, just out of interest.

Thanks heaps for you detailed rundown. Very clear and well captured, I brought one of these today with speakers exactly the same problem no power whatsoever. Hopefully it is just a simple fuse fix like you tried at the start. I am very new to trying to fix and repair more complex electronics like this.
What setting and reading are we after when testing those 3 fuses? And what would i ask for if i wanted to buy one from the local electronics store?
I would really Appreciate any help you can give me as i said im a bit of a beginner at circuit boards.

For testing a fuse you want it set to the ohms (resistance) scale and if it is not blown you will read whatever you see if you were to touch the probes together (000.2 for example). If it is blown it will be much higher, over 500 I would think. Not many good local supply stores anymore, if you're thinking jaycar their options are next to none for the repair scene. I got mine from element14, see part number MP005702.

@@YodaSpawn1981 The beep is fine, if it beeps that suggests the fuse is also ok as long as the display shows near 0 as well.

    Well done :-D
So the pwm chip went mad and killed the mosfet maybe, or did the mosfet blow back into the pwm chip.
Well it dosn't matter it works:-D
Strange readings from pcbs have sent me in circles, i nearly give up then something clicks and my brain starts working for a change lol .
Sometimes a good sleep wakes up the sub conscience and the answer appears from nowhere.
    Odd that.
    Sorry waffle mode :-(

Sleep is good. I need to stop making and editing late into the night, makes for lower production quality. One day my content will be as good as the BBC! Maybe I'll clone myself and make a show called the 2 Jonnys.

      @@JonnyFix Double trouble :-D
Imagine the arguements over using the multimeter ... but you could both check different parts of the pcb to check.
I can see the fight for the mug of coffee or tea :-D
