I think a lot of people are confused so I’m going too break it down. - When Kazuya got thrown down as a kid his Devil showed him he was their, the devil inside him used his hate for his dad too fuel him into becoming stronger but also wanted too take him over completely and Kazuya was fighting the Devil back in his mind . So when Heichi throw in in the volcano he gave the devil permission to take full control over him the real Kazuya is still their but taking a back seat , and he became evil over time .
not quite before all the retcons kazuya and devil were separate......kazuya was about to die after being thrown off the cliff as a result he made a deal with devil to spare his life for a chance at revenge aganist his father but he had to give up his soul in the process which he did....in tekken 2 its the influence of devi per the deal they made that influences his evil actions.

Jin is an anti hero and main of Tekken 8, Kazuya was never an anti hero, he was always a villain and now the main villain of Tekken.

What about Street Fighter × Tekken you should have included it too
T4 was so bad and stupid it's such a shame for the franchise. The T4 story was so goddamn awful, even for Mishimas, the main characters. In an effort to make the story more "realistic", they introduced the concept of the Devil Gene in T4, *but they failed to explain how could Kazuya gain complete control of his Devil mode simply by reuniting with Jin at the Hon-Maru temple.* This was a leftover from Tekken 3 (when the Devil Gene didn't exist yet in the story), where it was stated that after Kazuya's death by Heihachi at the end of T2, Devil attempted to possess Jin (the son of Kazuya) but Jun fought him off, however Jin still ended up with half of Devil's power in his body which is why Kazuya then sought Jin to reunite his own Devil power's half with the other half Jin had, which Kaz gains after defeating Jin and extracting the Devil half from his body (5:22). Now, this ending isn't really canon (because if Kazuya really extracted the Devil power from Jin then Jin would be left with no Devil powers whatsoever), but still is the "official" explanation for why Kaz finally gained control over his own Devil power starting in T4. (because in T1 and T2 he didn't have control over the Devil power, which is why Heihachi could defeat him in T2).
So in T4 basically the "supernatural Devil power" COEXISTS with the more "realistic" Devil Gene power explanation until Kazuya reunites with Jin and takes full control over his own Devil mode. Yeah, it's just as stupid as it sounds.
