HELPFUL TIP (from another Engineering Teacher)
If you are doing an iterative design, you may want to hold off mitre-ing, notching and trimming your joints until AFTER you have finalised your design. Add the truss beams (don't tidy up the corners), then do your stress analysis, then tweak the beams, then do more analysis etc... and THEN, when you design is finalised, you can tidy up the corners of your bridge.
