  • I decided to check how effective the popular mechanical principles of Lego mechanics are. Tested with high RPM and high-torque mechanisms to determine which joints are more durable. I hope you will like to know it.

    I feel like the chain drive might have worked better lifting if the chain was not loose.

  • @AtomicA7
    @AtomicA7 Год назад +237

    If the lifting rig was more rigid and strong and didn’t bend most of those failed ones would have lifted more also you said one failed but it failed because the lego persons head came off because of the centrifugal gs it was experiencing

    • @AtomicA7
      @AtomicA7 Год назад +37

      And others failed because they weren’t secure properly

    • @AtomicA7

    i think the chain and belt drive wouldve done alot better on the rpm test it better tensioned

  • @poelmeister
    @poelmeister Год назад +152

    That chain drive test wasn’t fair. The chains was too loose. That’s no way to test its strengths.
    You think the timing chain in a car would slack like that?

    • @SWellWellWell
      @SWellWellWell Год назад +4

      And this can affect the speed?

    • @user-bk2bk9zh8q
      @user-bk2bk9zh8q Год назад +19

      @@SWellWellWell, not on such a test stand. But if the shafts are fixed more well, then at a higher speed the chain will start to fly off without a better tension.
      And it will not slip as in the maximum load test.

  • @grande1900
    @grande1900 Год назад +76

    I think the thing that needed the most strength was the stand lol

  • @comradealex85
    @comradealex85 Год назад +45

    The rig and its insecure mounting are detrimentally affecting the results. The test rig in itself should be the strongest component to a test.

  • @Xaxationlorex
    @Xaxationlorex Год назад +15

    Test rig needs some major reinforcement ,lots of straight runs with no cross bracing. Chain was also super lose with too many extra links. Some resigns and another test seem in order.

    Your chain drive looked way too lose. You may want to take off a link or two and retest with a tighter fit. Also, the gears on your gear drive flew off because they were exposed on one side. I don't think that wound have happened if there was a liftarm element on both sides.

    You ever wonder why chains are, you know, tightened? This is why. Your test was done incorrectly because the chain was horrifically loose. If that chain was actually tight like its supposed to be, then it wouldn't skip the teeth on the gears, and it would perform much better. Maybe give the chain another chance by actually doing it right.
