    Hi everyone, well this one seems to have sparked a lot of discussion which is good. Thanks for all of your suggestions and your stories of how you reversed your diabetes. It’s very encouraging to see how many people have been successful.
    A word of warning but there are going to be a lot of videos coming up that were filmed before I started this new adventure of type 2 diabetes. Don’t be mistaken that I have fallen off the wagon because I have not. Tonight’s video is awful for what I am scoffing but that was then and this is now. See you tonight at 6pm for another video from Scotland.

    I just jabbed myself with a continuous glucose monitor to measure my blood sugar levels over the next 15 days. I will make an update video about that showing you all what is involved and how I get on. We can see together the impact of my meals.

      @@LifeistooshortCK I have a sweet tooth ! Live alone and turn to Chocolate for comfort. I need to stop this as in early 60’s and know I should be changing my ways. Saw hard boiled eggs are a good go to snack and easy to do and leave in fridge dated. Are these Ok? Filling and nutritious I would think?

      @@sallyhumphreys2714 yes, we boil them six at a time and leave them in the fridge in their shells until we are ready to eat them 🙂

      We went on a similar journey both health and in our van during covid and this August.
      I was recommended Pinch & Nom cookery books which teach you a new healthy, manageable way of eating a main meal.
      Sugar is our worst enemy, it gives us nothing. Change your salt to a natural sea salt and use more herb’s & spices.
      We drink decaf tea & coffee. You have to reduce the size of your stomach by eating less. I cook in olive oil and we eat a lot of veg. We now eat sourdough bread in UK and traditional baguette in France. We start every day with porridge made with water. I exercise regularly, my husband works part time. NO sweeteners, very dangerous. NO can sugary drinks.
      He is now around 14/14.5 stone, a lot healthier. We mostly cook ourselves in van especially in France.

      I will. Stay tuned for the continuous glucose monitor I just bought. I will share the results. So far I am 2kg down on the last time I weighed myself 👍

      Absolutely. Refer Fast 800, Fast 800 Keto and Claire Mosley's recipe books. Starchy carbohydrates are off the list. I haven't touched pasta, rice or regular bread for 4 months and have never felt better. Sourdough or Rye bread is better. Good luck!

    I reversed my type 2 diabetes by going whole food plant based and low carb. Lost about 18lbs in 3 months. I’ve never looked back. No processed plant food you see in the supermarkets but make meals from scratch. There are heaps of recipes on RUclips.

      Me too! Dr Michael Greger , Dr Dean Ornish, Dr Joel Furhman are experts in healing lifestyle diseases. Many other type of diets work and give instant great results but only plant based give the long term results from research. I want those extra years - more travel in the van I say 💚💚💚

    As soon as I saw the title, I knew you were going to say Diabetes. I've lived with it 25 years. Low Carb is the only thing that has kept my BG levels steady. You can have some fruits, berries are the best. Stay away from bananas and grapes. Other fruits will depend on what you combine them with. Testing will tell you which fruits do what to your blood sugar. Everyone reacts differently. Glad to hear you are using the fridge/carbs for when you really crave the carbs. But you really need to cut the portion ratio of pasta to protein/fibre. Less pasta more protein/fibre. Breads are the worst, especially your favourite French Baquettes! Good luck on your journey.

    Sirry to hear that. I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic a couple of years ago. I was lucky enough to go on a program for pre-diabetics from Reed Wellbeing. The program is a national program sponsored by the NHS. So far, I've lost 20kg in weight following a suggested menu plan, cutting out white bread and other high carb foods. Hopefully I've avoided becoming diabetic.

    Getting older really sucks for us all. Ailments that never used to affect us. I had to make better choices since I got older. You can do it Ken. More exercise and healthier diet.

    Having witnessed diabetes in the family for a lot of years my one thought about this video is by trying to find different ways of cooking/storing your favourite foods so that you can still eat them is a form of denial that will not serve you well. It’s very simple, cut out potatoes,pasta,rice,bread,dried fruits and the heavily carbohydrate fresh fruit. I’m not diabetic but in support of family members I also adopted these and don’t miss them it can be done.but you have to be ruthless with yourself. Witness Graham wizard in the wild, he’s been following Ellie’s diet because of her problems and has still become diabetic because his diet still contains the aforementioned ingredients. others have mentioned sometimes really harshly about your circumstance but that sort of candour with yourself will stand you in good stream.       Time will tell and I will be honest about the results. The CGM is currently not in agreement with your views but then again its the three monthly blood test that matters.

    I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about four years ago. I don’t take any medication for it but packed in potatoes, bread, cakes and biscuits. If I want a treat, a piece or two of dark chocolate. Oh, don’t drink alcohol so I limit myself to a dram occasionally with a drop of water.

    I was also diagnosed with pre-diabetes and I made some changes that not only helped my blood sugar levels but I also lost over 20 lbs. I stopped all the junk food (cakes, candy, crisps, etc.) and no longer bring them in my home. I will allow myself a treat if I go out to eat but I am usually so full from the meal itself, that I have no room for dessert. I only drink alcohol on holidays and special occasions. I walk most mornings (before the sun is up) but I think I will add in another walk after my biggest meal (around noon). I also do intermittent fasting most days so my first meal of the day is the biggest. Best of luck on this journey and keep us posted on what you find works or doesn’t work for you. We can all learn from each other.

    It’s a mind set thing. Just change your diet, exercise and think positive. The consequences of not doing those things are far worse. I am trying to convince myself as much as you as I have recently had the same diagnosis 😅

    Salt is good, check out Redmond Salt based in Utah, no chemicals are used to process this salt where virtually all salts are processed with chemicals!

    Sorry to hear that, but with a few changes you will have a good quality of life. Being sick is horrible.(You know that my dad has terminal cancer and diabetis and my mum just had a heart attack, what a nightmare). Please look after yourself. Health is wealth 🙏.     First I knew about type 2 diabetes was when I changed doctor as a result of a stressful house move. The doctor congratulated me on the efforts I had made to get the diabetes under control. Which was news to me as it was the first time I had been told I was diabetic. Once you have been diabetic you are diabetic - which is ok because you are in the system and then monitored.
    As far as I am concerned get weight sorted and everything flows from that.

    I have Weetabix, banana, and a few grapes with milk for breakfast, and try to eat healthy, stopped drinking alcohol 2 years ago. I was 22 stone. 2 years on I'm now 15.5 stone.

      Weetabix is high in fiber, high in iron. And has wholegrain in it. And banana is also healthy.

      @Mark-nr4mg The wholegrain aspect is of minor benefit, iron can be obtained more optimal from meat. Weetabix will be broken down into glucose pretty quickly.

    There are a lot of things with hidden sugar and salt. Take aways are one. Beer . If you can lose a couple of stone it will make a big difference. Cut portions , eat more protein and salads. I know you like cheese. Invest in a cheese slicer that shaves the cheese very thinly. I bought a little scale that weighs in grams and keep it on the counter top and weigh foods. There's a little yellow booklet that gives calories for every food and I use it all the time. I'm sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with this. I know you will manage this.

    It's not the end of the world Ken. I was diagnosed nearly 2 years ago and to be honest it hasn't made a huge difference.
    I have increased my veg - I eat fish more than meat anyway - and have really cut back on carbs, bread, pasta, potatoes etc.
    I don't deny myself things - that way lies madness as you want it even more.
    I have managed not to require medication, by keep moving, getting plenty fresh air and exercise. Apple cider vinegar is best for dressings with extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil.
    .I use cauliflower 'rice' and 'courgetti' - replacing the high carbs with veg.
    DO NOT OBSESS ABOUT THIS. I needs care but it does not rule your life!!!
    The Mediterranean diet is as good a way as any. Porridge for breakfast is also good as the oats are a slow release carb and avoids sugar spikes. You have to find what works for you.
    Be careful of 'hypos' - too low blood sugar - it can cause dizziness and headache.

    I worried about you everytime I watched your videos. Your channel has been an inspiration to me for our traveling we make in our Pleasure Way Van. I served at RAF Chicksands in 1985-1988 and count the British as my best of friends always. I was harsh with my comments, but Ken you know it's up to you to change for the better and I hope you follow your plans. Your wife is amazing and I'm sure will hold you to your dietary goals.     Funny how so few of the commenters here recommend exercise as a way to improve. Adding something as SIMPLE as a walking routine can have dramatic impact on health, since (apparently) so few do it.

      Yep my hubby bought an ebike and we are very hilly here so he still gets plenty of exercise, ave 30km+ per ride. Ken you’ll know our hills well (IOM). Also kayaks as plenty of sea here 😆. We also go for long walks and he’s fitter at 64 than he’s been for 20 years!!!

      Wrong diet and no amount of exercise will cure it. I walk thousands of steps, and yes of course it’s amazing, but you need a hell of a lot to counteract the wrong food, for weight and sugar problems.

      @@The4manxiesNo amount of exercise will cancel out a high carb/sugar diet. I do thousands of steps and yes it’s amazing, but for sugar problems and also weight, it’s the diet. He would have to do a ton of walking to counteract a high sugar diet, which is not always feasible. The quickest way to health, youth, and energy is less food, and virtually no carbs (which is just another name for sugar)

One other thing you can do for your feet is to roll the arch of your foot on a golf or racket ball. Thank you for your open hearts.     I'm sorry to hear that Ken. But... I have a friend who was diagnosed with type 2 early this year, and she set to doing something about it, diet-wise. Well in only a few months her results came down back into "normal" again! Now she is a couch potato. So you two are not. There is hope! Good luck and all the best.

    My mum had type 2 diabetes. Normal values measuring with a glucolis apparatus is around 6. After a big dinner, if you have 25-30 you do have diabetes. Wait for 3-4 hours to measure after a dinner. From what I know, going down in weight might reduce the symptoms. Going down in weight is, well, you need about 2500 calories per day. You need to burn off those or you gain weight. Going down in weight by starving is not an option. Nobody can resist hunger. Find food that keeps you fed up for a long time. Tunar, eggs, salmon mixed with maionaisse. We do have a website in Norway where you can put in your daily consumed food and see the summary of your consumption every day. Then if you do walks or other physical things you can also put in that.

    I have had type 2 diabetes for 21 years. I am 75. I don't eat pasta or potatoes. I do eat whole wheat bread and whole wheat tortillas. I keep my carbohydrates around 21 mgs per meal.

      Go the next step and aim for zero carbs. Eat to live, not to die. Intermittent fasting is also very benificial.

    Seems like there are quite a number of us living this journey to a new life and health together. I was diagnosed just over 6 months ago at 62, and have been told at my check-up 10 days ago that I classified as Type 2 Well Controlled. I was paniced when I was first diagnosed and terrified to eat anything at all. That GP gave me zero info or support, but with the help of internet research and specific social media groups I am feeling more confident. It sounds like you have amazing support from your doctor! I lost 10kg in the first 6 months and feel far better overall. Carol, you are an awesome teammate and support - you will both find your feet on this new path soon and discover that the new life style can be great.     Hi Ken, can I suggest looking at a Keto diet. It's tough at first but amazing when you enter ketosis. All the best and totally respect you both discussing on your channel to raise awareness.

    Sorry to hear that Ken. I had it and cured it. My regime
    Skip breakfast and fast 18 hours, zero calories as not to spike insulin
    Up the fat intake and ditch the carbs.
    Amla powder, it lowers blood sugar, it is miraculous, do some research on RUclips about it.

    I switched to a low carb Keto diet 2 years ago in preparation for major surgery and dropped 28lbs I still follow low carb as I am terrified of getting diabetes

    It’s amazing how everyone can turn into a font of knowledge and mostly incorrect. What works for one person doesn’t for another. Please speak to your diabetic nurse if you feel you need the extra support. Wish you all the best control and hopefully remission x

    Diabetes goal posts have moved over the last 30 years, so today many people are borderline and as soon as Pharmaceutical companies can they have more drugs to help! My situation was after heart attack and following drugs administered my Diabetes situation came closer each year, then I decided the Statins and other crap was making me ill, so my decision two years ago was that all drugs except the Aspirin tablets that thin the blood went into the bin, what happened next after blood tests my Type2 Diabetes returned to normal. Do as much research as you can as the whole Pharmaceutical thing leaves me cold.

      Dr berry on youtube has very good advice. Also dr Berg.The drs in the UK do no have a clue about diet in diabetes,they advise all the wrong things to eat,avoiding high carb foods is very important,avoid pasta,rice and all processed foods.Pasta is really bad for diabetes.

    Enjoyed that, very much, I am diabetic type 2 since I was 60 some 18 years ago, reversed it for a while, I must say losing weight is key to controlling it. Good luck Ken and thank you for your research. Very helpful.

    Poor Ken! I know he enjoys his food! Still time to turn it around though… good luck! As you love your meat Ken, try to do keto or low carb carnivore diet. The protein fills you up. I did vegetarian keto because I don’t eat any meat…

    You'll find your own way that suits your lifestyle and hope by doing so you can reverse it.
    Me since May, I've cut right down on carbs, up protein, don't eat after 6pm miss breakfast, have lost over 2 stone, lost my aches and pains😊 (thanks to Michael Mosley 😞bless him)
    I personally think the carbs and highly processed foods have a lot to answer for over the decades to the general health of the population, it's a ticking time bomb for the young.

    All the best with the new regime. I will follow with interest as I’m doing something similar to help with migraines. One difference is I’m slightly increasing salt intake, but that’s to aid hydration. I’ve not wanted sugar all summer, however now it’s colder, it would be a comfort to have a bit of sweetness. Very interested to see your sugar level readings after a meal. Well done for taking action. X

    Keto/Carnivore diets - Check out Dr Ken Berry, Dr Anthony Chaffee, Dr Shawn Baker, Laura and Chris Spath (was type 2), amongst others on you tube. There's loads of info on how to reverse type 2 and other ailments. All the best.

      I had type 2 diabetes for years. Hated the medication. Started strict Keto diet. Intermittent fasting. Diabetes gone in 4 weeks. Now I eat one meal per day, beef, bacon, butter and eggs

    Ken, cut down your meat and dairy, cake choccies etc and increase your veggies and fruit. Wholemeal all the way,including pasta. Hubby is Type 2 and overnight he went 99% plant based 4 years later he's almost reversed it.

      Not to much fruit with diabetes as it contains fructose which is a form of glucose which forms sugar, I have friends who are diabetic!

      no - no fruit, or very, very little, no carbs - so no pasta, potatoes,rice, bread - or only as a special treat occasionally.

      Pasta got carbs in it ..a complex carb though..as have potatoes again a slower absorb carb..u have to go for walks with in the hour after eating a meal ,as is uses the sugars up by the muscles .

    It’s awful Ken…u have to cut out carbs ..literally can’t eat nothing much ..so boring …I thought I had it but I didn’t ..after a meal u can go for a walk cos using muscles uses up any sugar in the body as does sitting and doing heal toe excercises with the legs.

      Sorry, that is simply not true. I eat a ton of carbs sometimes, for example if I am on a 5 mile brisk walk / hike, I can eat a huge *white bread* roll with virtually no impact to my BG. If I eat that same thing (a favorite of mine) without doing any walking, it would spike my BG to around 16 mmol/L

    Have you looked into the Keto diet? Also the Carnivore diet (which is more extreme though)

      100% agree. My partner and i not only lost weight on keto / carnivore but also feel so much healthier. Initially, it was hard, but we quickly got used to it and can't imagine eating differently now.

      i was diagnosed Type 2 in 2017 and fully reversed it on Carnivore. Sorry to read that Ken is now Type 2 but just eat low carb (no root veg) and you’ll be fine xxx

      Good Point.The tipps from the"Glucose goddess" are good to avoid sugar pikes and certainly very helpful for generally healthy people to avoid getting Diabetes. But when you already have Diabetes, this might not be enough to reverse it which is possible by eliminating all sugars, also the hidden ones (and sweeteners) and cut out carbs as much a possible. That, along with some type of short-term fasting, at the same time reverses non-alcoholic fatty liver disease that is linked to diabetes and all sorts of inflammations. The changes aren't easy (especially in France) but oh so worth it. Trying clean Keto for one month is certainly worth a go. Good luck with it.

    What you describe eating like rice, pasta, bread and potatoes really is not good for a diabetic person... focus on leafy greens, eggs, meat, fish instead

    I also suffer with planter on & off . For over 15 yrs . I also suffer terrible with Osteoarthritis so doing any form of exercise is pain killing for me . But the chair Exersise would be better . Was interested to hear about the pasta cooking and then to eat it the next day ! Coffee too for stopping the spikes of insulin .I’m also on a health program with the gps for better eating for diabetics . My fav is weetabix with fruit berries .it’s all about being sensible with eating biscuits etc . You can have them but have them as a treat every few days . I buiscuit and not 3 or 4 😊

    Hi Ken🙋🏻‍♀️ so sorry to hear your news. We love you two and watch every one of your shows as they come out Friday night. We were surprised when you popped up a day early! Had an idea what you were going to say though. You’re not on your own,it seems like this thing gets a lot of us who are of a certain age. I managed to turn mine around by cutting the carbs. I bloomin hate salads but have stuck to No white bread no white rice no potatoes. Wholewheat bread, lentils instead of rice and sweet potatoes. Been a year now and it seems to be working the weight fell off me and I had tons more energy. Hope this helps. Keep those shows coming.

    Well sorry to see this and we’d guessed, I used to wince when Ken reached for the croissants and cakes. It’s amazing how the numbers come down though once you get going with it; another trick to push the post meal numbers down is walking soon after you eat, works a charm, even just a 10/15 minute brisk one.     Thanks for the real time update. I have diabetes type 2 also. Hang in there! It gets easier once you get into the routine of healthier cooking and eating. This spring I started using the glucose monitor that you wear on your upper arm. It has made a world of difference in controlling my blood sugar.

      I just bought one and it’s fascinating. What type is yours and what do you like and dislike about it. Mine is an iCan. I just bought the first one I saw on Amazon so I probably could do better.

      @@LifeistooshortCK Mine is a Dexcom G7. It lasts 10 days. 3 month supply. I get mine from a mail-order pharmacy through my medical insurance. It is worn on the upper arm, on the inside underneath. No complaints. I have a small receiver or I can program it on my cell phone. I chose the phone so that there is only one gadget that I have to keep with me. I'd be glad to answer any other questions.

    Hi you two, Ken it will be alright, it's your motto, enjoy live but in a different way. In June I drove down the west coast of France all the way down and then towards Andorra, it was great, the hills in Normandy looked like Hobbit land. Andorra's mountains were mind blowing. If it rains and the nights are a bit cold, you have more room now to make it nice and cosy. Lots to see so have fun.

    Plantar Fascilitis- you can roll your foot backwards and forwards over a tennis ball. Worked for me!

    Being in a similar situation to Ken, including fasciitis, I finally landed on swimming pool exercises 3-4 times a week for an hour at a time - actually in a local hydrotherapy pool which is nice and warm (around 32deg). The results became apparent after just a few weeks, and it doesn't seem tedious at all because I keep my head above water and can therefore wear earbuds and listen to a playlist of music and podcasts. Looking forward to your sojourn in France!

      Carol lists all of her books she reads on our Amazon storefront. She is a prolific reader but I am not that great. I can listen to 2hr podcasts but get bored reading. We will continue to show whatever we eat going forwards 👍

    Good luck on your health journey Ken. My doctor put me on a CGM, constant glucose monitor, when she thought I may have blood sugar regulation problems. My husband went on one as well. It was VERY interesting because you can see what foods your particular body responds to and causes spikes most. Sometimes the things you think would cause spikes don’t and vis versa! It is good to see your personal body responses. She gave me all the same hacks as you. I started them and have lowered my A1C to 5.3 from 5.8 in a few months.👍

      well done did your doctor offer that voluntarily or did you have to ask out of interest? I’ve bought one but if I’m entitled to one on the NHS I think I’d have it.

      Hi Ken, My doctor ordered the CGM for me. She is a naturopathic doctor (not an American Medical Association, AMA doctor) so my Medicare coverage did not pay for it. It cost me about $120. Our health system here in the US is not ideal as I am sure you know. Hopefully your NHS would pay for the CGM if your doctor recommended it. Good Luck and good health!
