It's because it is really cheap fish. I pan fried a fresh fillet of cod from Lidl yesterday and it was amazingly good. But one is paying £3.25 for two fillets. I only get it if there is a long use by date on it. I just season the fish fillet both sides and dust both sides very lightly with flour. When frying, make sure to heat the frying pan first before adding oil. Then make sure the oil is not too hot, but also not to cold when placing the fillet in the pan. Don't overcook it. This time I made fresh chips from Maris Piper potatoes. Leave the cut chips in a bowl of cold water for at least 30 minutes to draw off starch. 16 minutes in the air fryer, shaking often. I dry the chips after soaking in a salad spinner. Just 1 tablespoon of sunflower or rapeseed oil is all you need.
Just a tip ----Cut a strip about 3/4 wide across the top of the chip bag or any bag remove the amount you require then use the strip as a tie to reseal the bag and pop back in the freezer.
Looked nice but I don't like frozen fish as its always tasteless thanks for sharing keith BTW I would have done fish in airfryer as its cheap fish so not worth wasting electric for😄👍
Cheap and cheerfull Have you tried leeks and bacon ? Leeks from any supermarket . £1.20 Pack of cooking bacon Asda/lidl etc 70/80p Wash leeks and slice into rings put into deep frying pan. Chop bacon into lardons add to pan couple of pinches of salt/pepper to your taste, add water to 3/8th/1/2 inch ,put on lid, onto high heat couple of minutes, then low heat to cook out. ( stir occasionally &check water level ).add more if required Into bowl with some of the juices. Eat with unbuttered/buttered bread your choice mop up juices with bread .
Dump the fish and just have a mushy peas and chips butty. I've learnt my lesson with cheap fish.. Don't buy! The paper towel sounded like a quick fart. I had to listen to it twice just to be sure you didn't sleaze one out. Cheers Keith 🤤😀👍
na I tried that pollock, just the once, tasted of mud, which is what I think the fish et , it was a load of pollocks. just found ya vids I like the no nonsense approach, and honest view, have subscribed, and will binge watch,
Keith that fish looked empty but the roll l was thinking looked tasty made me hungry shame disappointing like Nat said ok if young family will feed little ones families must be finding it hard today love to you both ♥️♥️♥️
The fish is Pollock witch is a very mild flavoured fish, things like mushy peas and tartar sauce will completely mask the flavor of Pollock unfortunately
I watch Victoria Foulgar’s channel OFG, she said Tescos Stockwell range of fish is good, I don’t know not tried it yet…. that sub looked soooo good though as well. You’ve had a ‘Fishy’ day today haven’t you 😂 I’m in Aldi tomorrow may see you 👍 xxx
Pollock is a no no as is Basa or better known as Catfish you would have been better off doing a Tampax in breadcrumbs it would have had more taste. There is a reason why this stuff is cheap it's because it's nasty spend a little bit more and get something you will enjoy.
Looks like you should have just had mushy peas rolls..I love those brown sub rolls with tuna mayo and sweetcorn..like you said Keith,if you had no money,it's a meal at the end of the day..nats crumpets sound more appetising..lol
Looks like a big fishfinger. I dont think the expensive ones are much different. And i always get loads of mint sauce on the peas when i get fish&chips.
This range of food is food just like any other food in life it passes any food standard just like any food, imo it’s just snobbery that some people in life turn a nose up at it.
I would not have it as it’s Alaskan Pollock which to me is bland and tasteless. You better off buying cod or haddock fillets. Aldi do both cod or haddock in their freezer and it’s far superior. Funny enough I like McDonald’s Fillet-fish with cheese and tartare sauce which is Alaskan Pollock but I find it gross otherwise as haddock or cod is much better.
But you forget one thing it’s cheap for people on a budget it’s not going to have the best quality but a lot Asda just essentials stuff is actually good unless your fussy eater and not on a budget …

@Mat Wootton I've suggested it on various cooking sites , saves buying bag clips etc and it can be used over and over till bag is empty.
Common sense really that.
Good tip Geordie thanks
I use my Lidl vacuum sealer to reseal the bag again. These kinds of bags are usually large enough to reseal several times.
A bag clip for me.
The only thing I’ve like from the essentials line is the chilli con carne (tinned)
I will try that mate
That would be nice for folk who don't like fishy fish.
lol squeaky
Mmm 😋 looked yummy but I only eat cod so I will be doing this but with 100% cod fillet great idea 👍🏻 until the next one ✌🏻♥️
