Something interesting i found out after rewatching was that even though Toguro ran away from his responsibilities and gave up his humanity for his incredible power, he still died only a day after Genkai did. She left something of value behind with Yusuke and the people who remember her where as Toguro did not.
He sold his soul for revenge. When he achieve his goal, he is meaningless. He wanted to die in the arms to Genkai, but she couldnt do it. So taguro made a personal plan while at the same time complete Sakyou's plan. He regrets his decision, however, he just move on. Whats done is done
Toguro did leave behind something of value, he helped teach yusuke to dissolve the wall between his power and emotions. Toguro in a way completed genkai's training. I say best manga character development for a villian, in yuyuhakusho, anyway.

The Toguro/ Genkai relationship is one of the best informative moments of the Dark Tournament Saga and both Genkai and Toguro serve as life decision figure towards Yusuke.

Genkai going there knowing she was gonna die was the most poetic thing, a full rejection of Toguros philosophy to not even use the spirit wave and pass it to the new generation, forcing Toguro to face the new "him."

This is a clash of ideologies, Genkai accepted the passage of time and living on through their students and loved ones. Toguro selfishly gave up his friends and lover for personal immortality. But even that was just to masochisticly trap himself in a form he hated, never having moved past the trauma of Kairen, even though that was through no fualt of his own. And make no mistake on who wins here: Toguro dies a day later to her student, whilst she is brought back by the ones she loves and is loved by. It's very much a Perfect Cell laugh. It almost clashes with the rest of Dameon Clarke's portrayal of Toguro, but he does tend to act more savagely when confronting Genkai.
I know people will argue that Togoru wasnt actually that bad because of a few moments he had at the end in the afterlife reunion with Genkai, but if he wanted to fight people who are strong, why didnt he fight the three demon kings. Like then we could see him getting toyed around with the same way he did that to everyone else.
Because Togoru would never stand a chance. He was considered a top class fighter only in human world, (upper B class). Demon world is way bigger and has many more devils much more powerful than himself. There is a huge gap in power between the B class and the A class and in demon world, basically anyone below A class is considered fodder. The demon kings are all upper S class (which is as good as it gets) and wouldn't give trash like toguro the time of day

I don’t think so. I think yusuke only got chosen to be raizens successor because he reached a certain threshold of power that made raizen comfortable choosing him. Otherwise I think he would have become a demon in episode 1.
Its a tragedy, because she truly did give up greatness... humans only live up to about 100 while demons can live up to over 1000 or forever if they can regenerate, in her whole human life span she only achieved a miniscule fraction of what she could have as a demon. She herself said she didn't care about ethics/morals, and that all she cared about was passing on her martial arts, so why didn't she ask for demonhood, she could have expanded her style to unreached heights as a devil and kept it to herself...
