thanks for this video just bought a new sela pro the one with the on off snare switch and I was so confused when I looked through the hole to see the snare mechanism on the bottom not the top. thought I had a dodgy one 😅 cheers buddy
Beside the snare not being on top and we will let that go, as a cabinet maker of 30 years, glue would not only have given it a sturdy construction but as a musician know that the resonance of the box would as well be better sealing the box and also force the air out of the port in the back where the wave (feel) comes from the front of course and if the back port is near a hard surface, quickly carry a second harmonic (the sound) forward giving it in a fraction of a second a kick, well like found in music halls! I had pasted from someone that they always sit in front of a wall for this reason but saw that this is Play Cajon but many example of this there as well. Please note that I'm not knocking your video as I am not even as far as you yet. Playing drums on-off pro since 1970's the Cajon is next. Good job, quality and engineering looks good! It re-enforces me to build one!
Turk T the Meinl build a cajon kit I purchased featured a mostly glue construction. Only the playing surface gets screwed on. (sadly, the Meinl kit does not feature rounded corners, or the same level of fit & finish as the Sela kit seems to. You could still easily glue this kit if you wanted to; that's how I'd build it!
Saludos estimado !!!
Actually, you might not think it works but having the snare placed at the bottom gives you not only a fantastic full snare but also gives great separation from bass and snare tones. P :)
@ Predrag Bajić, The CaSela also has a very nice low and punchy bass tone.
Nice video and lovely looking Cajon. One question, I thought the snare should be fitted at the top of the Cajon?
