Just found you :) your words and messages are really inspiring and definitely got me thinking since even after 7 years of making music I sometimes tend to fall into these thoughts of needing to add more and more stuff to a project and regretting it at the end because it’s nearly impossible to mix well

Hello! Thank you! Yep it's so easy to do, I struggle with it everyday but I think by keeping it in mind it makes things a bit easier. It's simple but not always easy haha

Dude, hearing this is like therapy. I can handle about 5-6 tracks no problem and get a decent sound. But then feel the pressure to add more and get completely overwhelmed. Choice paralysis and also feeling the sonic space already jam packed. Added to this you see all these youtube producer bros bragging about having 800 odd tracks in a session, and then feel really inadequate. Thank you!

I'm glad you found it helpful! 100%, it's the pressure of feeling like you've got to keep adding. I feel like as a creator we personally want these super busy productions, but listeners find it confusing and overwhelming. Simplicity is key!

Bro, the track is good. Try adding some stage drums when the bassline comes back again. A lazy singer can do lol.

It depends on the musical texture you are using, the 5 musical texture dictate how many parts and layers you can add. It also dictates the roles of said parts. A song with hundreds of channels is fine tbh but there needs to be a reason for everything it's a contextual matter. Less is more isn't the truth, more is more isn't the truth. If you want to get really esoteric "silence is God talking" air is as in important in music as the other three elements. 🙏🏿

For sure, it's not a perfect rule. There's cases where more is awesome! I would say though, less is more if you can get away with less. A song that sounds amazing with 3 parts IMO is better than a song that sounds the same with 20. Personal preference of course.
