    Currently going to do a bA in Studio arts and realized I wanna do much more. I'm excited to know this is a great path combing art, science and art history (my fav things). Can't wait to get into Museum Studies in a few years! And start my journey as a Conservator. Thank you for your Video!

    I am trying to figure out what profession id enjoy the most, am incredibly interested in object and art consevator. The working at a museum part really is a dream to me, and to be able to be so close to invaluable items and paintings, but i am nervous of how much science there really is to it- when studying to be a conservator how much would you say is pure science? As ive got ADHD ive always struggled with maths and sciences, but obsessed with history and art :) hope this doesn't sound too strange

    • @TheConservationStarter
      @TheConservationStarter  3 года назад +2

      Not strange at all! I don’t think the science should stop you from pursuing conservation as a career if you’re passionate about it. It didn’t stop me!
      My main hesitation before I started studying conservation was the science component. It is mainly chemistry and luckily the course I did acknowledged people came from diverse backgrounds and offered a chemistry bridging course to bring people up to speed. This was specifically catered to conservation science. I do use science day to day, but am constantly learning. There are conservation scientists and people that come in to conservation with science backgrounds- there is no way I can match their knowledge and capabilities. But the conservation community is all about sharing information and knowledge so you yourself don’t have to be an expert, you just need to know who to talk to and where to find the information.
      It’s a good start that you love history and art. Do you have good hand skills or can you start practicing this? There are also so many roles in a museum - you don’t have to be a conservator!
      There are lots of roles that work with the collection- registrars, curators, collection managers, photographers etc. There are also many roles that come from different fields but are required in a museum- finance, digital and marketing, IT etc. They are less involved with the collection but super important to keep museums running!
      I hope that helps :) Good luck!

      @@TheConservationStarter Thank you for the reply! Yeah i do think that as long as i'd be passionate about what im doing, it shouldnt be too big of an issue, as i'd be keen to learn. I'm not sure with my hand skills, do you have any ideas on how to practice this? Nice to hear there are other possibilities as well within a museum, will look into those and conservator as well to get a more realistic image of it :) Either way, i find what you do very interesting and incredibly important!

    • @TheConservationStarter

      I’m glad to hear you‘ll look into it. Finding out more about museums and conservators will definitely help you decide.
      In terms of building hand skills, anything that uses manual dexterity can improve your skills and help you build a portfolio to prove it. Crafts like sewing, knitting, painting, wood work, crochet etc all do that!
