Custom MN 168 Range Rover WPL Hybrid with Full Upgrades

- This MN 168 is now a full WPL Hybrid. Taking the best engineered running gear parts and fitting them into the amazing looking new MN with the aim of improving the scale dynamics and ridding the car of the awful cartoonish carachuture looks it was supplied with.
It is now fitted with a WPL Metal axle kit. The WPL axles were chosen because of the slightly narrower track.
These have been fitted to the chassis with a WPL ball ends adjustable link kit, with fabricated longer M3 link rods to suit the longer MN wheelbase.
I currently have a WPL two speed fitted, but this does hang quite low and limits break over angle. I intend to swap this for either the new WPL counter rotating 370 single speed, or the old design 370 single speed supplied with the C34KM.
The shocks are those supplied with the MN, they work very nicely but do have quite a short throw. I'm bewildered why MN designed these with plain mountings. I converted the axle end using a WPL rod ends, and made a flexible bush mounting from silicone tube to the chassis. The shocks are mounted to the chassis with custom made CNC cut GRP mounts that I designed to give some adjustability to the ride height.
The wheels are my own design 3D prints. The file for these is available on my Thingiverse - link below. Tyres are those supplied as upgrades to the LDRC Unimog.
I wasn't happy with the way the stock MN electrics worked with the WPL two speed. The electric speed limiting of the MN transmitter/receiver maintained that with the two speed in low range, so it severely lacked power. The electronics have been swapped out for a Flysky Tx/Rx set and 1060 ESC.

Ohh yeah, very cool Range Rover ! 🚙🏆🤓
I've been playing around with motors for the stock MN78 using an aluminum transmission with metal gears. Sometimes the available options get overwhelming. Thank you for the in depth build list. It gives me hope!
I got the one with bearings and the studs sits loosely inside and the gears rattles, the other one is an identical replica to the plastic one, blows my mind since you have metal on metal contact lol, plastic is self lubricating but aluminum is not 😂
Awesome build and video mate 😊
Nice rig and video 🔥👍
Great work. RR looks excellent. I stuck with the MN metal axles. As you say they are wider. I had to compensate with the offset of the wheels.
@@RC3DPrintAdventure Thanks, yours looks great to. I will always go to some lengths to be able to fit a dishy wheel :-)
@@smallscaleadventures Your wheels look excellent. I will check those out for my next MN168...😁.
Very nice
Hi I've got one the same and preferred your wheels were did you get them please are you still on portal axles regards phil
@@westrayskiffman Hi Phil, this one is quite a way from stock. It has WPL straight axles fitted in place of the MN portals - this requires swapping to WPL trusses also. My other one is swapped to MN straight axles. The MN axles are wider than the WPL ones. This truck has the wide version of my 3D printed wheel design, but the MN version has to use a more stock width wheel. Even then the track width is still too wide.
To get the wheels you would have to either print them yourself or find someone locally who would print them for you. The files are linked in the video description along with some other details of the build.
Muito bom o vídeo amigo está bem realista 😍🤩👏👏👍👍
What front lights are fitted please? Link?
They are the spot lights from a WPL C74. I cut the original brackets off and bolted them through the grill. Unfortunately they could not be illuminated mounted in this way, but I never bother with lights on my rigs anyway so it's no bother to me.
