You really notice the difference between a good professional and the world's best. The control is extraordinary and allows many different moods to flourish as the performance develops.
Barenboim just knows how to draw you into the intimacy of this music without taking the attention onto himself. We are in Beethovens world now. This is why I love the solo piano works of Beethoven.
The soul of Maestro Beethoven meets the soul of Maestro Barenboim through the piano keys and they are touching their hands , there is no time and space inbetween anymore, this can be archieved only by music in perfection and we are blessed to whitness such a miracol...
Imagine never finding love. From others or oneself. Having a life of chaos, abuse and constant suffering and deterioration of health, including the thing that is vital to your vocation. Beethoven endured so much pain and heartbreak, and yet he was able to lay down work that would bring joy to millions of people until the end of Earth. What a fantastic example of not letting misery and outside circumstances defeat you. We all have the power to create and produce for the benefit of others. Creativity is a gift we've all been given that can cut through the crap in our own lives
There is a disturbing element in his performance. I never heard moonlight like this before, he puts the piece is a new perspective much more mystical then others. Incredible!
Don't understand how a man could play in this way... everything is perfect, and this is a live performance. Barenboim is simply a phenom playing the music of a genius
The consummate artist and master! Speechless. Music as Catharsis and Epiphany. Perfect character, phrasing, voicing, timing, stillness and fervor. Timeless and magical...

Words can't explain the way Daniel Barenboim plays. All of his performances leave me and many others speechless. As a player of Beethoven, I think this performance is a very good interpretation of the classical style and periodic characteristics which come with it. Excellent job D.B!
Wow. This is amazing. The emotion that Beethoven put into this song, and all of the ones that Barenboim captured (perfectly), makes this piece so spectacular and melts all the listeners hearts. Bravo to Barenboim for having a fantastic interpretation, and bravo to Beethoven, who made this song as moving as it is today.
I’ve been downloading Daniel Barenboim since I first discovered him 20 yrs ago. As a pianist, as a conductor even as a father to violinist Michael. Huge fan.
If music came from the score, then midi pianos would be able to play songs better than anybody. The score is not the player. The music comes from the player, not the score. That is because music is fundamentally emotion. The same piece can be played by the same person two completely different ways, and both ways would be perfect, as long as the artist's interpretation was done well.
Une oeuvre magistrale je trouve diriger par des mains de Maître c'est a dire Daniel Barenboim , car ce fut un grand Maître bien qu'il soit encore vivant . Pascal qui vous souhaite à tous et à toutes une excellente soirée .
I have always considered this piece to be God sent , majestic and cosmic and this performance just proves it! Masterful performance of a masterful piece that even Beethoven would've liked
I don't know a heck of a lot about classical music, but as someone who plays piano, guitar & bass guitar by ear, I absolutely love this song. There's something magical that happens within me that I have no words to express. All I can say is that it's emotionally magical!!!
The depth of his playing just leaves you in awe. I love to study his facial expressions as he plays. He leaves you on the edge of your seat like he's telling a captivating story, and each note he plays creates a level of intrigue that makes the adventure all the more fascinating. Hats off to you, Daniel. You are a master.

The second movement is so beautiful, when you imagine the context. Beethoven composed this when a lover of his died as a reminiscence of her. The second movement depicts the girl in her most graceful and adorable state, maybe dancing, with all the elegance she possessed, so it's like a Beethoven's dream, in which he sees her dance for the last time. It makes me cry, seriously.
I'm classical musician, for me this version is EXACTLY how I understand this piece. The first part is slow, but it feels calm and deep, played as this the piece becomes MORE than just music. Baremboim is almost no longer an artist, but more a messenger. In my eyes he has long ago overcome the challenges of acquiring technique necessary for refined musicianship. He is past the long hours of mental exertion, analysis and study to achieve delicate artistry. I profoundly respect an artist that DOESN'T first impress me with his/her knowledge or skill. I hear this and I hear a voice speaking not to my mind but to ME. The mind is always quick to analyze and is hungry for details, but the soul isn't. She is in no such rush. This is both music for my mind and a gentle caress to my soul, and I give thanks to God that such men and women walk this earth showing others the way.
cmcas I love what you said, it's hard to play this piece in the fact that if you just play the page it sounds dead. Emotion is necessary and obviously it can increase the challenge. I also love how he adds much more musicality to M. 3 than most people ever even think to.
I just love the way Daniel uses tempo to create expression. His work over the symphonies is just gorgeous. Classical pieces musn't be played in a so restricted tempo, like a robot. Great performance
