  • I received a Mega Drive recently and wanted to help anyone having problems setting it up with the very outdated RF cable.
1.Plug the RF cable and the power cable into the back of the Mega Drive
2.Plug the RF cable into the big round hole located on the back of your TV, make sure its pushed all the way in.
3.Turn on your TV and click the Menu button on your TV remote.
4.Select the "install and auto tune" option
5.Select Analogue auto tune until your TV finds your Mega Drive
    6. Fine Tune with the settings shown in the video
    7.PLAY SOME GAMES
Links for the SCART and AV cable to skip this process. Make sure you get the correct cable for your console!
    Sega Mega drive 1
    SCART CABLE: amzn.to/3oItzqI
(NOT for Master System 1, Mega Drive 2, Genesis 2 or Master System 2)
Sega Mega Drive 2 (the one used in this video) and Sega Mega Drive 3
    AV CABLE: amzn.to/3fc11mu
    SCART: amzn.to/3wzh0kt
Double check to make sure they are the right cables for your console!
    Happy gaming!

My family home recently had a fire in the loft and so many of our sentimental things have been destroyed and it looked like our sega was another casualty of the fire. I was devastated to be honest as there were so many memories attached to it. But I didn't want to give up as a picture was sort of coming on and there was a constant static sound. My Dad thought the fire had damaged the sound chip or something.... Anyway I decided to have a look on RUclips and came across your video. Fine tuning to minus 5 was all it needed, so instead of going to the skip I shall now be able to share the joy of our mega drive with my 6 year old and relive my childhood. Thank you so much. You have no idea how thankful I am to have found your video.

You didn't show where you plugged in those yellow, red and white leads or the scart plug you showed?

Yeah only specific tv’s allow maunal channel tuning down to the exact frequency. Unfortunately our best bet is to just upgrade from RF despite losing that old-timey feel.

Thanks. This really helped me out. Unfortunately I don’t know how to manually fix up the quality. For now I’m glad this video was able to help me out.

What if my TV doesn't allow me to directly scan for an analog signal? I tried the scan but it didn't seem to find the RF cable connection with my Sega Genesis turned on. Any suggestions? By the way I am in the process of purchasing the crossover and av out cables for my 32x so that I can go that route. Just wanted to be able to use my Genesis natively.

I ordered the Scart Lead same one you linked. But what about the Adaptor and/or ‘RF’ cable??? Not very clear instructions my Guy, can you explain more? Do I need to get an adaptor when I receive the scart cable. Also, what if the monitor I’m using doesn’t have a scart input?

So how do you play on a MD or any old consoles, when the only TV's you have in the house are Oleds?
Oldest model is the C2 and the newest the C3...... Both only have 4 HDMi 2.1 slots in the back and that's it.
I take it you are screwed and have too buy an old TV or ridiculously expensive converter... Retro gaming.... So cheap

Ok this is awesome, thanks, it’s helped,
Also helps that the menu and set up on your tv is exactly the same as mine, despite it being a different tv. ANYHOO, I have no sound, any suggestions? Please

Well hopefully this video helps the people who do have an analog fine tune, either way upgrading from RF is the best option, you're not going to get an old-timey feel on a digital TV with an RF cable it looks and sounds horrible :)

You need that basic tv UI for the one here (you usually get it with cheap tvs)
