It made then trigger happy, so they decided to spend over €100 million on three different players in three consecutive transfer windows, none of which were compatible with the tactics that the coaches employed, for extortionate wages each over €250,000 a week (they all flopped badly btw), and it also made Bartomeu have the brilliant idea of making the minimum wage for the squad something like €130,000 a week and the average around €200,000 a week, giving out money like candy to players like Umtiti, Lenglet, Sergi Roberto, etc (who now don’t want to leave the club because they would have to slash their wages by like 80%). It also made Bartomeu think that the club had enough money that they wouldn’t notice if he started stealing from the club finances; and raise the costs needed to run the club every year only possible to pay back if they got like €1 billion a year (he got very cocky). Then the pandemic hit, and Barca went broke, have debts of billions (the state of which is comparable to Leeds in the 2000s), sell Messi, force all their players to cut their wages in half, cancel contracts, furlough a bunch of staff, all because Neymar got sold and Bartomeu got cocky because of it.

You guys are great and I’m a fan of the three channels but the info regarding atleti is misleading and incorrect. Simeone gets paid 24 million euros every year (still too much) and João felix while costing 126 million euros, they sold griezmann for 120, Lucas Hernández for 80, rodri to city for 60 or 80 million euros the same year so it wasn’t like they spent that money without any outgoings. They sold a 28 year old for a 120 million and signed the golden boy and one of the world’s most promising players for an extra 6 million so I would say it was pretty well spent and not that big a deal. I also remember the other options being considered were cavani, lacazette and rodrigo (leeds) and all three were around the 50 to 60 million range
