I'm in my 50s but there's always that time in mid-winter Canada when there's room for something light-hearted and cozy. Sometimes you need to satisfy the inner child to get through those long, dark days. There are some great recommendations here. Thanks!
This is the best list of books 😊 I love cosy books. I've started reading 3 new cosy book releases a month, this month I'm most excited for The Village Library Demon Hunting Society
I loooved the Wildwood series! And Shady Hallow is vibes only and with book 3 the mistery becomes even better! I hope you will enjoy both these series! 🍂🦊
I love the Wildwood trilogy!!!! The author is also the lead singer of the Decemberists and the illustrator is his wife. The story is set in Forest Park in Portland, Oregon, but in an world where there are magical elements. I've been to most of the places that are used as settings in the book. I also own the Nordic Tales book and I just stuck it on my shelf and forgot to read it. Good reminder. I read and enjoyed The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, checked it out of the library, and because I don't own the book, I keep forgetting to continue in that series. Two newer cozy recs - I really enjoyed Can't Spell Treason without Tea and The Spellshop. An autumnal set that's cozy but also bit creepy is The Crow Folk by Mark Stay.
Some of the books in this video are also on my reading list (and some I’ve already read and enjoyed!) :-) I enjoyed this video very much. I like how you presented the books, the general descriptions and your own expectations. Enjoy your books :)
I was waiting fir cozy books but it was mostly.....murder murder murder lol except I do love the Alan Bradbury um Flavia murders. It is fascinating and lovely to be in her mind
I'm listening to the audio of A Spoonful of Murder right now and not feeling it yet. It could be the narrator isn't working for me. I'll keep on with it a bit longer. If you like pensioner series I've enjoyed the Richard Osman "Thursday Murder Club Mysteries" series. Another you may enjoy is the Robert Thorogood series called "The Marlow Murder Club" which is also a tv series but as usual the books give more detail.
About half of your list is also on my TBR, I'm looking forward to your reviews when you've read them. I also really enjoyed your vlog reading Legends & Lattes and other cosy books last year. Would love something similar this year, in case you enjoyed filming it. 😊I just finished The Pumpkin Spice Cafe this week and dove straight into the sequel afterwards. I'd say your expectations are an accurate reflection of what's in the book. Nothing groundbreaking, but nice cosy vibes and likeable main characters. Maybe a little too many spicy scenes towards the end, but that's very subjective. 😊I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narration. It's only 7 hours, so rather quick 😊 And "Laurie Gilmore" is a pen name, I had to look that up because that would've been a crazy coincidence 😄
I love the Arsenic and Adobo series. The dog on the cover is definitely in the series, it's not just for the cover. I also really love the Flavia de Luce series. Flavia is fantastic. I really liked Shady Hollow and keep meaning to read more of the series. I tried to read Wildwood and had a difficult time getting into it. I am a huge mood reader and I think I just wasn't in the mood for it.
I have also bought the Pumpkin Spice Cafe ( for the name and for the cover!). I’m not usually a big romance fan but I just had to get my hands on that one. I also have Nordic Tales but was thinking about reading it during the winter season. If I can finally finish The Little Friend……I’m sad because I really wanted to love that book! Oh well 🤷🏻♀️…
I just finished The League of Lady Poisoners by Lisa Perrin (great for people who appreciate amazing illustrations) and The Wren in the Holly Library by K. A. Linde (strong cover buy contender). Both good fall reads either for theme or for setting.
I’ve read every book in the Before the coffee gets cold series except the very latest. I love them all, but the first is my favorite. Thank you for all the wonderful recommendations🧡🍁🧡🍂🧡
I'm eating supper with you Alice. Nothing very good, just wanted something fast so I could listen, and write down. I DNF'd " Before The Coffee Gets Cold. I know it is/was popular. It just seemed wierd to me, the writing. I finally have a week-end to look forward to!. A dear, dear friend (I consider her a daughter) and I are going book shopping and lunch! I'm SO EXCITED! She really is the only one I can discuss bks. with😑. She is a h.s. teacher. We don't see each other very often because she has a very busy family life as well as teaching; and she lives almost 1 hr. away(after she married😑 I hope to buy: The Pumpkin Spice, Shady Hollow, Spoonful of Murder, The Weed That Strings, and How To Solve Your Own Murder if enough money. The rest I will take out from the library. I seem to read cozy mysteries only in Autumn also! When I was in my 50's I read The Indigo Tea Shop Mysteries by Laura Child's ; one after the other! Now I have grown out of them or she seems to write the same old, same old. Plus my reading tastes have changed. You give GREAT recommendations😊 Thanks Alice!
I have read and re-read all the Elizabeth Peters Amelia Peabody books, love them. I loved the Alan Bradley “Flavia de Luce” books; most recent came out last month!
I have a few cozy mystery that I want to read Murder by the book by Lauren Elliot , The Ghost and Mrs Mewer by Krista Davis , 15 minutes of Flame by Christin Breecher, Be Careful what you Witch for by Dawn Eastman, Annabel Chase Spellbound cozy paranormal mystery series love them! Bait and witch by Angela Sanders, Witches get stuff done by Holly Harper A grave issue by Lillian Bell, The Clackity Lora Senef, A year of Shadows by Claire Legrand, Paula Brackston all her books are cozy The Orphan Witch by Paige Crutcher
I have the pumpkin spice book! I also have a few others you showed. Another series I really want to read is Welcome to Spicetown it’s a spicetown mystery
Hello Alice ! Thank you for these very inspirational suggestions ! I am very intrigued by how to solve your own murder, I am definately going to read it.
Such a good list of possibilities to read. I have 4 of your titles I need to read. And now i also want to add B J Hall and Elizabeth Peters books to the list. Happy Fall Reading🍁📚🍁
'The Wildwood Chronicles' are some of my favorite reads. They are definitely chunky munks but worth the read. I rate them 8.5 out of 10. I'd give them a 10...but they are thick books and not everyone likes a thicky. Also I read the How to solve your own Murder. It was decent. 6.5 out of 10. I might be a bit harsh on that one...but it just was different than what I expected. NOT KNIVES OUT FEEL AT ALL. In my opinion anyway. You should check out 'The Language of Thorns' by Liegh Bardugo. If you haven't already. Great book of Folk Tales. Thank for the recommendations. 🍁🍂📚
No one every talks about this book and I adored it. Not even my usual genre (western setting), but I read it for a book club choice and was so glad to have found it.
Lol at the end of Before the coffee gets cold you will know the rules. You'll have read them so many times you'll see them with your eyes closed 😅 Maybe it's better to know that the author is a playwriter and he wrote this as he would've written a play I think. I found it dry and extremely boring. How to solve your own murder on the other hand was a nice surprise! Yes, it has something of Knives out, and I don't see the ressemblance with The thursday murder club, except it's pretty cozy if you except the murder of course 😅 I hope you enjoy it!
"The Pumpkin Spice Cafe" is definitely cozy fall vibes, and the simplest of romance plots. Not meant to "wow" you, but definitely for the easy cozy reading. One of my favorite cozy reads is "Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers." It's so sweet and made me tear a little bit. Also the Eva Evergreen duology; it gives off major Kiki's Delivery Service vibes in book 1.
I had a really good time reading How to Solve Your Own Murder...now half way through The Strings of Murder and I love it! My cosy read for this evening ☕️ 🕯️ 🍂 Next book on my TBR....The book of the gravedigger by Oliver Pötzsch. It is about a serial killer in Vienna in 1893. Don’t know it there’s an English version
I tried to give How to solve your own murder a chance because the premise was so unbelievably good but at barely 10% in I couldn’t keep boring, it was so slow and I was so bored out of my mind 😭

Omg what a title!! I’ll have to check that out 👀👀
The House Witch sounds cute!! The cover is giving Studio Ghibli vibes to me!
It’s super cute!! And it would actually make an excellent Ghibli movie now that you say it 👀
Great list, thank you. I’m a Murder/Mystery girl. I’m finding the golden age murders very cozy.
Love that! 🖤
I loooved the Wildwood series! And Shady Hallow is vibes only and with book 3 the mistery becomes even better! I hope you will enjoy both these series! 🍂🦊

I enjoyed listening to Arsenic and Adobe on audio and made me hungry for my Lola's cooking.
There will be a stop motion film of Wildwood, coming next year or so? I think it is by the same studio which created Coraline.
Thank you for commenting this!! I had no idea and now my day is made
@@Maggie_writes you are very welcome ☺️ I happened to find this information and the trailer here on RUclips by accident!
Oh that’s so cool! 🥰
Laika is doing Wildwood!? Such good news!
I have also bought the Pumpkin Spice Cafe ( for the name and for the cover!). I’m not usually a big romance fan but I just had to get my hands on that one. Thanks for your varied recommendations. All the books, except one, I'm hearing for the first time.
I just finished The League of Lady Poisoners by Lisa Perrin (great for people who appreciate amazing illustrations) and The Wren in the Holly Library by K. A. Linde (strong cover buy contender). Both good fall reads either for theme or for setting.

Love that!! 🥰 can’t wait to read the rest of the books 🖤

Pony by R J Palacio. It's such a lovely read! 🤍

Hi Alice,
Thanks for the video. I love the Amelia Peabody series as well. Does your sweater say ‘Sleepy Hollow’? It’s cut off !
It does! 🥰
Estherjane here. I started Pumpkin Spice but I found it more spicy, not cooking, than I prefer. Was not for me so I ended up doing a DNF. 🥴
That’s good to know! I’ll have to read it when I’m mentally ready for that 😅
I just finished How to Solve Your Own Murder. It was so good! All my guessing was wrong! 😅
Love that! 😃🖤
Oh no! 😅
