Thank you for sharing both your time and talent and the link to the pattern. I made this and marked on my lining to the brim a space sufficient to turn the hat, but... I basted that marked area, pressed my seams, then clipped those basted stitches to open that turning space. Once turned, pressed well, I hand slip stitched that opening closed, pressed again and did my top stitching. I have such a time with curved turning spaces... hope that makes sense. Thank you again, am going to make as many as possible and give to coordinator at our church for Operation Christmas Child. How blessed I feel when I think especially of these children, all ages, and the fact that the have never had a new dress/clothing or hats to help with their climate. I want bucket hats with bows to match the dresses I plan to make as well. No feather in my cap (no pun intended), just have an abundance of material from C19 mask making and much of it is bright and happy.
You are most welcome, Donna! And, may the Lord bless your efforts to provide items for OCC! What a wonderful cause! Thank you for letting me know my tutorial was helpful to you! 💗
You are just too cute in that hat! A lot of people can't pull off a hat. But not you! I agree with you - those instructions aren't the easiest way to do it, although at least they work. Now I want to make one! This is so quick I bet it's easy to crank out a bunch of them. Great tutorial! Love you! ❤
Super cute & easy Andra, thanks! I made a toddler size bucket hat a few years ago & it had so many pieces & seams, it took forever. I'm going to try this with some cute water resistant fabric for a new baby gift.
Oh I feel smart now - that's the exact method I used the last time I made a bucket hat! The pattern was not for a reversible version, so I decided to do it like this. Now that YOU are teaching this method, it validates that I might actually know what I'm doing sometimes 🤣. Great tutorial Andra!
SEW, SO CUTE! I've been wanting to make a bucket hat for a long time, but just haven't gotten around to it! Thanks for the inspiration and tutorial; I'm going to download the pattern and make one up!😃
I really love this hat and have downloaded the pattern. I couldn’t do it directly from your link, just wouldn’t work, so I went to the W and W website direct. The hat you’re wearing is a wonderful colour/pattern combo and really suits your colouring. Pits me in mind of my favourite time here in the UK, Autumn. Love the colours, and really suit me too. The hat will look really good on the golf course, especially as it can be made reversible. It will make a nice change from my usual baseball hats ! I’ll use your construction method and let you know how I get on, Now, let’s see what I’ve got in my stash 🤔 ! Thanks for sharing x
Thank you so much, Shelly! I will double-check my link. I cannot wait to see your hat(s)! They’re kind of addicting to make! I’m a golfer, also! I’m not that great a player, but, I still enjoy getting out there and trying! These will make fab golf hats! Keep me posted on yours! 🧡
❤! Last Christmas I could have used this tutorial 😏. I made a winter version from a free online pattern for my hubby in a water repellant stretch woven. It was super fiddly and I never was happy with it. Using this tutorial, I might just try again. If I do, I'll be sure to share on Instagram
Yay! Thank you so much, Nancy! To me, this method seems so much easier and faster! You know me - I don’t do fiddly - this method is so straightforward! Can’t wait to see yours! 🧡
Thank you for the tutorial. Just a suggestion, a camera stand would seem to make filming so much easier. It's a little distracting watching your one hand trying to put pieces together, but that's just me being particular. 😊
Your bucket hat looks awesome!! I Love It! 💕 I agree, It's perfect for Fall!! I can’t tell you how much I LOVE your vlogs! I’m a new viewer and enjoy looking at all your makes. I also enjoy the chronicles of your sewing retreats. I’m so jealous, I wish I could join y’all😁
Love your bucket hats! They are sooo cute!!! I’m definitely going to make one using your tutorial when I have time. When I do I will tag you!🤗💗 Thank you Andra!!!
Can you use a soft fabric like rayon for the lining Andra? I've just made a red baby cord pinafore dress with gold rayon lining and I'd like to make a matching bucket hat from the scraps but not sure whether both fabrics are too soft and floppy.
The pinafore dress sounds beautiful, Sandra, and a matching hat would be amazing! It should work, especially if you interface one or both! Keep me posted! Can’t wait to see it! 🧡
That's exactly how I would have expected a bucket hat to be made. Now I'm curious. I have to pull out my Waves and Wild pattern and see how they do it. Unrelated question since I'm nosey. What does the tatoo on your wrist say/mean.
That’s how my mind works, too, Linda! Must be the bag-maker in me! Let me know which method you use! I don’t mind you asking about my tattoo at all! That’s why I got it! It is Hebrew letters and says “Redeemed”. “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding”. Ephesians 1:7 🧡
@@AndraMakes I thought your tatoo might say something like that. I thought it might be a bible passage chapter and line in Hebrew actually. I haven't looked at their instructions yet but I suspect I'll do it like you did.
I’m making this hat for a 3-6mo. Old. Your top piece fits so nicely mine seems to be really small. I tried 3 x to put it on in different ways. Lots of notching and slits and still it’s too small. I’ve even tried gathering it so the tucks will at least be evenly placed. I don’t know what else to try except cut the top bigger?🤷♂️
Hi, Ruth! I would recommend putting the section that seems larger against the feed dogs when sewing them together. That will help it gather some. And, honestly, if the tucks aren’t super large and numerous, I wouldn’t even worry about it. No one will notice. But, if it bothers you, your idea for cutting the top a little larger will probably work. There is a possibility that the part that seems larger could have gotten stretched a little, so, be gentle and careful when handling them once they’ve been cut out. Please keep me posted! Can’t wait to see your hat! 💗
Thanks, just found this after seeing it on Instagram. I've just made two Sandcastle Bucket hats using their instructions and this looks much more straightforward!! Is the interfacing you used quite a stiff one?
Hi, Kate! It’s been a while since I’ve made these, and I can’t remember for sure, but I think I used Decovil Light. The weight of interfacing you use (if any), depends on how floppy or structured you want your hat to be. Tag me when you post a pic of yours! I would love to see it and share it! 💗
I believe so, yes. The type of interfacing depends on what look you want. A stiffer interfacing will yield a stiffer hat. A lighter interfacing will yield a more drapey hat. Can’t wait to see yours, Naomi! Tag me if you’re on IG so I can see it! 🤩🧡
Hi, Aida! I used the free pattern from Waves and Wild, so, you probably need to check with them. Let me know what you find out! Do you have an Instagram account for your business? If so, what is it called? I would love to see it! 🧡
Hey Andra… I am struggling with printing this pattern.. it measures 16x22 and won’t print correctly on the four pages. I’m so frustrated… did you encounter any problems printing? I am able to do layers for size but it still won’t print the complete pattern.
Yes, that is strange. Maybe try from a different computer? If that doesn’t work, maybe contact Waves and Wild and see if they can do something on their end? Keep me posted! You will love this hat! 💗
@@AndraMakes i'm having same problem i've printed off so many patterns for bucket hats and the square is correct size, i do custom print because i don't have actual size and put custom print at 100% and the square is correct but when i go match the pattern pieces up they don't align, one is always bigger than the other piece. i'm so frustrated
I am so sorry, Jean! That is frustrating! I’m not sure what is happening. Do you have contact info for Waves and Wild to reach out to them and see if they can help? Keep me posted! 💗
