- FINALLY JESUS CHRIST WHY DID THIS TAKE SO LONG-
I started this on June 30. Previously, I was struggling with a severe art block and didn’t feel like doing ANYTHING. I had given up on several previous projects and most of the ideas I had did not spark motivation, Except for one. I’ve had this idea for at least a few months, if not more. I’ve always wanted to do something with this song, since it’s one of my favourites. The vibe I got from it was someone losing their mind without even realising it. I was planning to save it for when I believed I was good enough to create the vision in my mind, but I was desperate.
(GENERAL OVERVIEW)
I’ve also (semi) recently had the headcanon that the Tsardom of Russia had schizophrenia, which is what this entire animation is based around. How did I come upon this idea? His flag… Let me explain! In my headcanons, if there is anything with wings on the flag of a CH, they will gain those wings. Turns out, I missed a pair of wings when I created my design for ToR. They were the wings of a dragon being stabbed by a spear. So did I fix my mistake? NOPE. I created a whole new alter-ego thingy for the Tsardom of Russia and made him have schizophrenia, that caused him to see this version of himself with the wings of a dragon! FIXED.
While making this animation, I was originally only going to do the first half. Then I decided to give the Russian Empire schizophrenia as well! (Since it can be genetic). I made his part the second half of the animation (which was a lot less fun-)
(THE PROCESS)
Creating this animation was… rather simple in theory. I simply drew all the key frames in IbisPaintX, imported the audio in CapCut, created two separate animations in FlipaClip to merge together in CapCut, then started putting the key frames into FlipaClip for animating! I started out with sketches and worked on whatever I felt like. It was all going smoothly! Until IbisPaintX crashed… Five. Separate. Times. And normally that isn’t a problem in my normal drawings! I can just use the playback feature to restore it! EXCEPT THE DRAWINGS TOOK 20-40 HOURS AT THAT POINT, SO I HAD TO WAIT HALF AN HOUR JUST TO GET MY DRAWING BACK ARGHHHHH- You probably saw me complaining in my community posts… they were rough times. But I managed to finish with a total time spent (on IbisPaintX alone) of 48 hours and 53 minutes! That’s not counting the time spent getting IbisPaint to work again, or animating on FlipaClip, or editing on CapCut. F U N. There are also about 500 layers total on two separate drawings (no wonder IbisPaintX was crashing-) and 2800 total frams in FlipaClip

Okay, now I am going to explain what is happening in each of the parts :)
0:25 - Normal Tsardom of Russia (ToR for short)
0:29 - Alternate Tsardom of Russia (I call him Rot because it’s ToR backwards :)
0:32 - ToR fears his son, mainly because he was born at the start of the Great Northern War (leading him to believe that he will die. He was right, in a way.)
0:35 - A clock counting down the days ToR has left. I really enjoyed this part :D
0:38 - The slow descent into madness that ToR experienced, with Rot on the opposite side of him
0:51 - The Tsardom of Russia falling through water. This is a reference to his fear of water after a bridge collapsed during the Battle of Narva, sending him into the water
0:58 - My representation of auditory hallucinations
1:02 - Some of the enemies of ToR, turning into hallucinations (Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Ottoman Empire, Swedish Empire)
1:04 (Until 1:10) - ToR is on a balcony, muttering to himself. RE came up behind him and placed his hand on his shoulder. ToR wasn't expecting it and crashed through the balcony.
1:10 - Several different hallucinations (RE, PLC, OE, SWE, Rot)
1:12 - RE reaches out a hand to save the Tsardom of Russia, but he thinks that his son is his enemy, and pulls his hand away
1:14 - He dies, not from the fall but from his mind deteriorating so much that he turns into dust in front of his son’s eyes
1:17 - His “object” left behind (it’s the only remnant from a country’s death). His object was an orange feather. And this was the stupid part that made this anination take so long :(. I was trying to animate it falling into water but gave up ;-;
1:20 - RE being sad :(
1:26 - The dragon on the coat of arms of the Tsardom of Russia turning red, representing Rot
1:30 - The Russian family pictures
1:39 - The Soviet Union comes into power. He has an eyepatch since wounds are inherited, and RE lost an eye in a previous war
1:42 (Until 2:06) - RE slowly losing his mind
1:45 - The death of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth
1:49 - The aftermath of the Russo-Japanese War. RE did terribly and lost an eye as a result.
2:08 - The Attack of the Dead Men. RE experienced a few hallucinations during this, seeing the German Empire (the man in the mask) as the alternate version of himself.
2:12 - See that quill right there? It’s made from the Tsardom of Russia’s object :)
2:13 - RE writing in his diary about his schizophrenia. There are a lot of easter eggs in this shot
2:14 - His hallucinations kick in here, showing warnings about his son (the Soviet Union)
2:16 - Disturbing hallucinations
2:17 - Hey look the clock is back
2:19 - The Russian Empire’s enemies (Japanese Empire, Ottoman Empire, German Empire)
2:22 - RE finds a drawing from his father showing one of his hallucinations. He wonders why it looks a lot like the ones he experiences
2:24 - RE on a balcony. His son comes up behind him, but he hears him.
2:28 - He sees a bunch of different hallucinations, but they are mostly his allies (in order, USSR, Kingdom of Serbia, France, Tsardom of Russia, alternate version of himself), leading him to believe he is safe. He does not notice the gun in his son’s hand
2:29 - RE reaches out to his son instead of pushing him away. In his final moments, he realises the Soviet Union is holding a gun. Too late.
2:32 - Would you look at that! The coat of arms of the Russian Empire also has a tiny dragon :) No wonder he was just like his father
2:33 - A clock and the Tsardom of Russia’s feather, lying in the pools of blood next to the Russian Empire’s body
