Keep it as is. Your girls are growing up, and that means your house is going to be a hang out with lots of kids coming over. That brings fun and oops bangs and some mishaps. You'll stress less about it knowing you didn't update to watch teenagers destroy it when being just kids.😊

Agreed! Family first! ❤ My mom LOVED decorating and renovation. She changed our kitchen four times- before I was born, in the 80's (12 years later), before H.S. (10 years later) and once she & dad were empty nesters. I would say the 80's kitchen was only great in the eighties...Melamine! 😆 However, when she went back to her original traditional style like your's that flexed well with trends, that final makeover was sooo much less expensive because the bones stayed.
On a personal note, polished chrome is a timeless choice. I like how it plays with the other finishes in your house without being so match-y.

I’ve had my IKEA kitchen and baths for 15 years and LOVE the way they’ve lasted! And I love all the customization you get , with pull out drawers, pull out pantry cabinet, lazy Susan corner shelves, glass front cabinet fronts, and stylish hardware. Highly recommend IKEA.

I half renovated my kitchen in 2005 using ikea cabinets. In 2018, I totally renovated the kitchen, reusing the upper glass cabinets and retaining the pantry. My glass door cabinets had developed a grimy black stain around the edges. I mentioned this to ikea when I was buying the new cabinets. Despite the older cabinets being out stock, they replaced all the doors free of charge-I still had my original receipts.
So do keep your receipts if you buy Ikea cabinets.
My kitchen has held up well.

Love your kitchen & so reassuring it's lasted 10 yrs. Just installed my IKEA kitchen. So happy with it both in terms of style - modern/traditional + cost. Went for beige/taupe fronts, some glass doors for upper cabinets and beige/marble effect counter tops & light gray tiled splash back. Just love it's warmth & cosiness

⭐⭐⭐⭐ First and foremost, your kitchen looks amazing, great job. I also purchased my entire kitchen from IKEA almost ten years ago. Having said that, I decided on all white kitchen, with cabinets going all the way to the ceiling, with a combination of the upper ones with glass doors along with lighting and lighting below the cabinets which come on at sunset. I also, added the lighting in side the drawers, which I love at night. On the other hand, I decided to warm up the kitchen with a section of 3 inch natural wood stain shelves for my every day dishes and glasses. I must say, my kitchen still looks like the first day that it was installed. I opted for the stainless steel farm apron sink plus a pot filler, that we use all the time. Furthermore, I chose the Carrera Quartz with beautiful veins which I also used for my backsplash all the way up to the cabinets, and decided for the 3 inch waterfall on each side of the island. Moreover, all of my appliances are finger free stainless steel. The only con I find in my kitchen, are the stainless steel Miseno Eaton 3 Inch Center to Center Bar Cabinet Pulls. Due to the fact, that every time I'm going from drawer to drawer the end of the pulls gets caught on my robe or pants pocket. Therefore, I'm searching for more solid ones. Lastly, my friends now all have warmed up to my classic all white kitchen, and they still can't believe is from IKEA.

After 10 years, your IKEA kitchen is holding up very well. The Shaker style is not for me, but a lot of people like the look. Black is definitely hard to keep clean and I would always advise against it for cabinetry. I watch a lot of HGTV makeover shows where people go "custom" at a cost of THOUSANDS. Given that those kitchens are open to a main room, I don't see the need since you are not trying to work within walls. Generally, people are quite snobbish about IKEA, but the kitchens come with a 25 year guarantee and provided it is properly fitted and looked after, can look good for years.

We have a white IKEA kitchen, with the same glass fronted doors. After 12 years, they are holding up well. I use a combination of white and cream colored appliance touch-up paint to cover the few nicks and scratches that we have. It works great. We have the butcher block counter tops, but they need refinished. Please! Would you do a video on how you refinished yours? Thank you 😊

  • @donnabacon4681

Perhaps the reason why the black didn't hold up as well, is because that lower area is what is used more, the area that is right at baby's/kids level. Our bodies are more against those cabinets than the uppers. So they are in the line-of-fire - every day, all day long.
    Just a thought!!
As much as I think a marble countertop island would be beautiful, your kitchen looks gorgeous as! For some reason, I don't even "see" or my mind doesn't register, the black cabinets. Maybe that's what it is supposed to do(?)
    Enjoy your weekend!!

🙋‍♀️ Christina! I ❤ your kitchen and think it looks VERY new given its 10 year age. Very cohesive. On the outside looking in, I agree I would change up the hardware. I love the current but I would consider mixing up the styles. Not necessarily the color. I love polished chrome but would like to see bar handles mixed with your current hardware. Thank you for sharing and explaining your choices. Can be very overwhelming to pick but breaking it down into steps and whys allows a result that works. 👏🏻❣️👏🏻❣️👏🏻❣️

I agree with an "all white" kitchen. It is classic and timeless. (I am happy being boring😊). Together with the overhead wall cabinets, I think that the glass doors break up the white just enough. I also like the handles (although maybe in brass), - and love that sink. The cabin, with its white panelling and the contrasting wood looks great too. Lovely kitchen. Good old Ikea! Thank you for some really helpful feedback.

I feel like the lower cabinets just take a beating since they're down low at human height. The uppers don't get bumped and kicked with shoes and are up out of the way above the counters. If the lowers were white too they would definitely be aging faster than the uppers. ❤❤

I also love mixed metals and mixed materials so you may consider to change just a few things to get a whole fresh feel. The island would be a great place to start as it stand out the most. Mix it up as you can afford to do so, have fun and enjoy your space. Can wait to see what you decide but it does still look amazing as is.

Your kitchen looks amazing at 10 years old! 😳 I don't think it's because your lower cabinets are dark that has them wearing faster. It's just more wear and tear because of location. Our kitchen is 36 years old with oak cabinet doors, and we've only changed the appliances, counters - quartz replacing arborite - and hardwood floors instead of vinyl sheet flooring, plus sink and faucet, over the years. Our upper cabinets still look brand new, which boggles my mind sometimes, but the lowers, which are the same finish, are badly in need of refinishing, especially the sink cabinet. We have the same cabinetry in 2 and a half bathrooms and the laundry area, and only the main bedroom ensuite vanity needs work too. It's almost weird how deteriorated those two areas are, while the other bathrooms and laundry are still in just about perfect shape. I fancied gettng the worn out lowers redone in a darker tone, but after our most recent appliance update with stainless and black, I'm reminded why we never bought a dark colour car. I really dislike my dark stovetop, it never looks clean to me. Every speck of dust looms in my face! 😮 Thank you for the update Christina, it's very helpful information indeed! 😊👍💕 I think I agree with you that lighter counters might be nice for you, and a change of hardware to refresh, but other than your wishes for possible changes your kitchen looks great! 🤗👍

The only problem with the review is that todays Ikea quality is nothing compared to the quality their stuff had 10-15years ago.
Today you can't really go off of reviews from Ikea bought in 2010 and prior, bc while you pay more the quality has gone down unfortunately. And that's for kitchens and of course other furniture.

I put an IKEA kitchen into our cottage 8 years ago and constantly get compliments on it. It’s hard to beat IKEA’s design, functionality, price point and durability.

My white Ikea kitchen turned darker in colour. Almost yellowish.. 6 years old. Also some stains will not come off.
Wouldn't buy it again at Ikea.

I had kitchen and bathroom Ikea and after a couple of years all swelled near any dampness. I'll never buy them again

You didn't prepare the space properly. IKEA kitchens are guaranteed for 25 years, but it cannot mitigate against user sloppiness.

@eattherich9215 It was just a normal house. The old units were fine apart from old fashion. They did last way more than 25 years
