Wow, it's really cool that you guys mentioned Emergence on this list, my heartfelt thanks! Pretty unbelievable to not be forgotten 10 years later, considering we didn't expect to reach anyone with that release back then. It was and still is a passion project at its core.
Like you mentioned, solo/duo selfproduced albums have become more commonplace since then, and that excites me. The technological boom in the early '00s did a lot to make professional sounding results from small studios more attainable than ever before, as long as they were willing to put in the time. Let's hope for a wave of independent creative minds making music from their hearts.
Cheers again guys! \m/
Your ability to write that kind of music in that setting is unbelievably inspiring! Would love an opportunity to chat sometime and nerd out on your process. Keep it up my dude. Love your work.
@@forgemastermetal Thank you very kindly for saying that! Oil to my flame :) And certainly, if you ever want to talk about anything (private or for the channel), just PM me through any of my social media pages. I'd be happy to share about it!
Also some 30 and 40 year anniversaries coming up…
Wild stuff
@@forgemastermetalBlack Sabbath’s debut album is already 55 years old & will be 60 in 2029 which is insane to me
Remember back then watching Coverkillernation talking about those albums... I think Autopsy's "Tourniquets,Hacksaws And Graves" was my AOY with Solstafir runnerup
That Solstafir album is terrific. We opened up for them in Boston right around the time that album dropped. Great experience.
Great Video, and I see what I missed.... Glad to see you have Primordial on the list... I saw them live in 2022, they really delivered! Opening with Where Greater Men have Fallen, so epic. just awesome
Triptykon, Pallbearer, Behemoth, Yob.... What a year. All those albums are on my top 10 list.
Dude it’s WILD how stacked 2014 was haha
Thank you very much guys! All those records were excellent and I am going to have to revisit these albums this week! Hope you guys are having a fabulous weekend 👌🏻😎🤘🏼👊🏼
You too bud!
I really need to get into Agalloch and primordial a lot more. I like two albums from both bands and they are both great!
For me, 2014 was the year that I got into atmospheric black metal after discovering Deafheaven the year prior. That Saor album is still fantastic and I really truly appreciate how that was a gateway into me appreciating folk elements in black metal. Another album from 10 years ago that I still spin is Mare Cognitum’s Phobos Monolith. I still think the album is Mare Cognitum’s absolute best to this day!
It’s wild how important 2014 was for releases
Hey guys. First some well deserved congrats on the anniversary of your channel. Love the concept of this video...and thanks for introducing me to Primordial. Some other albums of 2014 still in my collection are from Insomnium, Septic Flesh, Anaal Nathrakh and Dead Congregation. Also really loved your praise of Tom G. Warrior...remember Celtic Frost's debut Morbid Tales released in 1984 - And this was AFTER Hellhammer. And metal was never ever the same again... Happy new year guys.
Thanks brotha! Happy new year!
Thanks guys! Great rewind to 2014. Lotta my faves on there, plus I forgot about Saor! You always give me listening homework that I appreciate.
It was a fun rewind and an eye opening one!
@7:15 Ozzy got reincarnated before he even died... stuff of legends :D
It’s wild how similar they sound haha
My favorite 2014 album, is The Quantum Enigma from EPICA
Nice one! What a year
some great albums guys. Ten years ago, I was way more into Melodeath and similar genres. One of my favorite albums From 2014 was Heroes from Sabaton... Everytime Night Witches kicked in it just got me going man!! Lol. My other favorite album from that year was Shadows of the Dying Sun by Insomnium. Truly one of their best. Also one I put on at least 3 times a year.
Keep it Metal My Dudes!! 🤘🤘
Great addition, it honestly shouldve been on here.
Thanks for video guys! I really enjoyed what I was hearing from Pallbearer. Ill be checking them out further 🤘
Man I am JELLY they’re a first for you.
@@forgemastermetal i listened to the Foundations of Burden and oh boy were you guys right 🤘 cream of the crop doom metal for sure! Thanks again for the recommendation
It's what we do!!
Aura is the best album of 2014, and Saor's best album in general imo. Conquering Dystopia and Septic Flesh also released amazing albums in 2014
Sick Uada shirt. Nice vid
Thanks bruv 🤙
Nice UADA shirt. I friggin love that band!
I still gotta catch ‘em live
As always, A+ content, great dino wrap, and thanks for 4 years of laughs and great info. My New Year's resolution is to be more kind to myself. In 2014 I can't really say I was diving into anything new intentionally; this is a few years into when I started to ingest streams and started loosing the full album context. Tracks from The Satanist are probably what turned me onto Behemoth.
I love that new years goal my friend.
Great list… really pumped for the new The Fateful Hour album!
Us too!
I gotta check out shylammna whatever, they sound great. I guess i missed that album back when
Let us know what ya think
I checked them out and they're right up my alley 👍👍
Yussss.
Sweven by Morbus Chron, one of the most unique fusions of Death, Progressive and Psychedelic Rock i've heard, will celebrate its tenth anniversary on February 24th. Sadly it was their final release as they broke up the following year.
Never heard it! I’ll have to give it a spin.
@@forgemastermetal Do it!
Considering how much You love Pallbearer, I can not emphazise too much that You must check out Demonic Death Judge. They are from Finland, of course.
Thank you for the rec, mate! I will absolutely spin that! Have a RAD weekend
appreciated the mourning beloveth callout!
Amazing band
My resolution is to, on average, buy 1 vinyl per week! Ideally ones released in 2024 :> (In other words, keep your content coming, I'm gonna need it!)
You’ll have to let us know the pain to your wallet at the end of the year lol
I live in one of the most expensive countries on earth, so it's gonna hurt, but it's gonna be worth it! @@forgemastermetal
Genuinely caught off guard that it's been 10 since those Triptykon and Pallbarer albums. I was sure they only just came out. 😅
Same lol
Some others that come to mind:
Insomnium - Shadows of the Dying Sun
Solstafir - Otta
Ne Obliviscaris - Citadel
Horrendous - Ecdysis
Anaal Nathrakh - Desideratum
Fantastic additions
Awesome recap of some great albums from 2014. I wasn't really into metal like I am now back then so most of the albums I love from 2014 I don't have that time connection with. That said, here are some killer albums not included in this video I love that were released in 2014 (no order).
1. Harakiri for the Sky - Aokigahara (post-black metal)
2. Architects - Lost Forever // Lost Together (metalcore)
3. Jinjer - Cloud Factory (progressive metalcore/groove metal)
4. Chevelle - La Gárgola (hard rock/alternative metal/progressive metal)
Some great additions. That HFTS album rips.
Some great picks right here!
2014 was another great year for Metal! My favorite is the Satanist!! 10/10 for me!!
💀🤘💀🤘💀🤘
Incredible album.
Sick Uada shirt. I got the same one at their show.
Nice! Were they good live? I’ve yet to catch them.
@@forgemastermetal Awesome live. This was on their second album. I haven't loved the recent stuff but I might need to spin it more.
And this Plateau Stigma not bad at all, just gave it a listen
Nice!
Will be seeing Triptykon at Fortress festival in the uk this year, hope they play some bangers off this one.
I am jellyyyyyyyy
Some of my favourite albums on this list. Saor and Winterfylleth are just mesmerizing to me and the Primordial record invokes singing along at max fucking dialled up to 11 volumes till your vocal chords collapse in a screaming pile of bloody gore... and well THE SATANIST.. i dont think this one needs any comment... at all...ever.
It's crazy to think these albums are ten years old and are so monumental even still!
Here's to at least another 4 years
Much love, Forgemate!
A year early, but VHÖL's 2015 release, Deeper Than Sky is the best album I've heard this century.
Wow!
Much respect to Celtic Frost, Hellhammer, Triumph of Death, Triptikon.
Godlike
Spectral Lore - III
Mare Cognitum - Phobos Monolith
Insomnium - Shadows of a Dying Sun
Great additions!
Thanks for all the doom recs you guys throw out. Most critics dont like doom much, and only grudgingly give it space. You guys lean into doom, and we need more genuine appreciation of it in the criticshpere. Ever think of looking at the foundational stuff from, say 1969-83? Toad, Dust, Captain Beyond, Coven, Lucifers Friend, Banchee, Fuzzy Duck, Pagan Altar, Truth & Janey, Blues Creation, St. Vitus, Angelwitch, Roky Erikson's "The Evil One" album, etc. These bands evolved the early Sabbath sound into various subgenres of doom, and no one talks about them anymore. You wanna pick another great year in doom? Start with 1971. Thanks for all you do, guys.
Also Budgie, Cloven Hoof, and Blitzkrieg.
Thanks so much for that suggestion, Forgemate. We are proud to call ourselves fans of the genre and it makes us glad to know that they aren't all falling on deaf ears. That would be an amazing video to cover. In the mean time, we are going to attack a video covering the rise and fall of goth metal. Once that's done, we'll consider your idea! Thanks again!
Yall fuckin rule.
You are actually effecting the metalsphere around the world, whether you know it or not. Personal example: I am curating the underground portion of a college radio station automated playlist for their weekly metal radio show for when they dont have a DJ for the shift. Many of your recs have landed and will be broadcast over north Florida for years. Fuck yeah.
Also, ANGELWITCH's first album. Just sayin...
Not sure Primordial is really a doom metal as much as it is a folkish bm band straight up. I get that the vocals and slower parts invoke doom vibes, but i'd still shove them in a different direction.
They’re more of an epic heavy metal band with those influences, yeah.
@@forgemastermetal let’s settle on that they’re fucking awesome ;)
YOU feel old? 😅
Sure do lol
NEW BLOOD RED THROOOOONE
It’s great!
Gotta love “The Mist” in the background lol
Yuuuup
2023 was a month a go 😅
Sure was
Before I get past minute 1, The Satanist had better be on here...
Good thing it is
