Now I am really curious to hear the metal v2. I just recently listened to the Totem Arro and it completely blew me away with the soundstage, imaging, the airiness and details. Amazing for under $2000. Now I am curious to hear the $15k counter part. Thanks for another great detail comparison and review of these speakers.

I first heard the V1 versions of the Metal at a 2012 show in Cali, they were my favorite speaker/demo room regardless of price. Thanks for bringing these to my attention, I will look at them again in the near future. the list price hasn't changed in 9 years so they're an even better value.

Good review:) A few weeks ago compared the Totem tribe speakers with the Forest using Macintosh 252 amp, and walked away with the Forest. They sounded smoother, deeper and fuller, even thought the Forests have a metal dome tweeter and the Tribes have a soft dome. Overall Totem makes impressive speakers and match incredibly well with Naim gear.

I was not in a hurry as I was totally enjoying my Totem Forst speakers. I'm currenly in the process of setting up a new 2 channel system using only Bryston gear. So, off I go to audition the Metal V2 speakers. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. Your review is spot on. I have the V1 Metals. Not sure how different the V2 are, but I agree with your overall assessment. Especially the part about bass response rendering additional subs essentially pointless, even for bass freaks.
Currently driving them with a vintage Classe Audio DR3 and DR7 pre (purchased from Audio Excellence a few years ago). All Canadian eh🏒🇨🇦
They are quite efficient and would have loved to hear them with my old 300B SET.
I thought about selling them and going back to my vintage pair of Apogee Duettas I have in storage. But something has held me back from doing that.
While they aren't a "budget" speaker, they aren't crazy money either, and attainable to the serious audiophile with a decent budget.
The important thing is they offer value for what you pay, and can go toe-to-toe with much more expensive speakers.

I am thinking if your newly treated room that is counting for ~50% of what you hear. If that is why you like speakers little more in this room than before??
So can the room treatment be a turning point like reviews done before and after the treatment.
If that is not the case then it then like to say treatment do not so much in that case.

I really can’t see how totem can sustain a 20k price point. The metal series is too overpriced. I know a dealer that stopped having the element fire/metal series on the floor due to people buying other products for lower or same price.

You shouldn't have to apologize for liking many of the high-end speakers your hear. That SHOULD become normal. Over time many mediocre speakers will become extinct, and what will be left after decades of speaker making will be the truly top designs. Survival of the fittest. Affordable prices too. The issue may come down to just how much you want to squeeze out of the low end, and audiophile snob appeal just for paying ridiculously high prices. So it is not surprising to me that you like many speakers these days, and need not have to trash truly great sounding speakers just to prove to your audience that you have discriminating ears. Just because a woman gets fourth or sixth place in the Miss Universe contest doesn't mean she's unattractive, or that you should kick her out of bed! Hell, even the one in twenty fifth place is pretty hot!

Thanks Jay for another informative, interesting & entertaining video.
I'd like to pose a question to you &/or our community of viewers.
I own a Parasound Halo a52+ 5 souround sound amplifier & an Outlaw Audio Preamp/Processor.
I have a feeling this gear will pair very well with my new Totem Tribe Tower Speakers.
Any thoughts or opinions on this matter?
just purchased a pair of Totem Tribe Speakers online and they are being shipped to me.
Thanks Again For a Great Review & Summary of These 2 Totem Tower Speakers.

So, what metal music did you listen to on these speakers? Because, you know, they're called Metal v2... I'll crawl back into my hole

$15-18K... I take your word that they sound good and tonally balanced BUT the sum of the parts don’t add up for fairly ugly speakers. Wilson Audio, Revel, Magico, Sonus Faber, etc aren’t shaking at the knees for sure.

@@lukerestlessstudios I understand where you’re coming from however aesthetically not going in my listening room. It’s a bit irrational right? Why would it matter what the speakers look like if they sound great? However it does matter otherwise speaker companies wouldn’t spend $1,000’s on exotic veneers and materials for the looks.
Outside of audiophile things, my bigger hobby is racing and collecting cars from classic muscle cars to Ferrari’s. They all have differences in performance and ride quality BUT the looks also matter. As for my Ferrari F430, the sound it makes hitting 8,500 redline was 50% the reason why I bought it. Has nothing to do with performance but the sound matters. Funny.
Maybe I should contact Totem and buy their drivers and commission a master craftsman to build the cabinets and get Danny from GR Research to design and build the XO. Probably end up costing the same and take a year... but do-able.

They probably cost 2 grands to make them, it's just nonsense. I won't be fooled by the " high end " industry and that doesn't make me a genius i just know how much things cost, simple common sense.

I know it's not a fair comparison, but how does the totem tribe (and maybe metal II) compare to the LS50 Meta or Wireless II?
LS50 Meta are currently way out of my price range but look to be my end game, but hearing about the totem tribe and how good it's tonality is (I play piano and sing in a chamber choir) that is the most important thing for me too.
Does the LS50 Meta even begin to compare to the tonality of the totem tribe or does it out right get embarrassed?

Go listen to the KEF ls50 meta when you have the money. If you like em' then there is no reason to look further.
