a little disclaimer tho, a lot of cinnamon products are fakes, so you gotta make sure and read the ingredient label if its actual cinnamon, real cinnamon is only produced in one region in the world and is labeled as ceylon cinnamon
Ceylon cinnamon or true cinnamon is the real cinnamon. This is cassia cinnamon. This one doesn’t have herbal benefits which you could get from Ceylon cinnamon.
Well just to make it clear, the word "fake" is a bit misplaced here. There are simply multiple types of cinnamon coming from different trees but they belong to the same family (Lauraceae) and the same Genus (Cinnamomum). However the one that was first used to make Cinnamon was named Cinnamomum verum, which basically means "true" cinnamon, which is probably where this whole idea of "true" and "fake" cinnamon comes from. True cinnamon is also the Ceylon cinnnamon you talk about The other cinnamon that is sold the most and produced in China is Cinnamomum cassia. Now you are definetly right that people should pay attention to what cinnamon they buy, because Ceylon cinnamon is indeed healthier, while the Cassia cinnamon contains quite a bit of cumarin, which can be pretty toxic. But still, just because ceylon cinnamon is healthier doesn't mean the other cinnamon is "fake". It is still cinnamon. I mean a lemon and lime are also both citrus fruits even if one was better than the other, that wouldn't make any of them "real" or "fake" citrus fruits.

If you really want to nibble away at the tree, the best parts are the roots. We used to dig them up and eat the roots straight from the ground. The taste is so intense that it can feel like eating a chilli. Also, you can scrape the roots, dry it and smoke it. The flavor is quite strong. We never bother with the stems as they are mild compared to the roots.

It’s not that they’re shocked by eating something that came from a plant. It said they’re shocked that they are damaging the tree by removing the inner bark which can harm the tree. Lots of other plant products like fruits, vegetables, tubers, etc. don’t actually harm the plant when harvested.
It's also the somewhat healthy variation. The pure variation is Ceylon cinnamon, and it's essentially a miracle spice. It's extremely healthy. #respectcinnamon
I was taught the more respinsible growers/harvesters take bark off branches, not the trunk itself. Cause yknow, taking away a tree's bark kills it basically if it's done like how it was in the video. So... branches, not trunks.
@@dandelionappreciator9712 It's the same, the cambium becomes exposed and dries, everything above the cut will die. They will probably cut the tree after peeling it.
Yes, surely they would want more than one harvest per tree. Girdling a tree by removing even a narrow a ring of cambium will kill the tree-- unless these are highly unusual trees somehow?
@karenkrohn8003 I did some reading & apparently it takes three months for the cambium layer to grow back and 1 year for the bark to grow. The cinnamon tree can be harvested every two years.. It seemed a really strange process to me as well. But now we know!😅🤣
@@ralsharp6013 I've seen that info spread around but afaik it's fake. Removing the bark like this kills the tree. Apparently, they actually do coppicing, like they do with willow canes. I like cinnamon in some things, but I can't combine it with apples in any way. Not in apple sauce, whole apples, cereals with apples, or any kind of apple and cinnamon products. For some unknown reason, this combo upsets my stomach. It's crazy because I like and can eat both without a problem, as long as I don't eat them together. I've had this weird problem since childhood. A nice fact about both of them is that they can be eaten without guilt, as they both have health benefits, and without being fattening. As another commenter mentioned, though, don't go over board on the cinnamon, as high doses are mildly toxic. For the record, so are a number of other foods. Real black licorice is bad in high doses, potatoes are toxic when raw, but safe when cooked. There are plenty more potentially harmful foods out there. Eat them in moderation, and cook them if necessary. Fun fact: even plain ordinary water is toxic in high doses. It throws off your potassium and salt balance, and yes, that can kill you. Fortunately, it takes a lot of water to kill you, but people do occasionally OD on water.

a little disclaimer tho, a lot of cinnamon products are fakes, so you gotta make sure and read the ingredient label if its actual cinnamon, real cinnamon is only produced in one region in the world and is labeled as ceylon cinnamon
Maybe that's why I get sick SOMETIMES when eating it?
Ceylon cinnamon or true cinnamon is the real cinnamon. This is cassia cinnamon. This one doesn’t have herbal benefits which you could get from Ceylon cinnamon.
@@bonniemoerdyk9809 Yup. you might be allergic to the real thing.
Yes, and often they contain high lead contents. So if you eat on a regular basis, I would only reccomend Ceylon cinnamon.
True cinnamon is also the Ceylon cinnnamon you talk about
The other cinnamon that is sold the most and produced in China is Cinnamomum cassia.

I’m sure they smelt the tree first and then decided that it might be tasty or good to use for medicinal purpose.
Perhaps some animal does it first? If you really want to nibble away at the tree, the best parts are the roots. We used to dig them up and eat the roots straight from the ground. The taste is so intense that it can feel like eating a chilli.
Also, you can scrape the roots, dry it and smoke it. The flavor is quite strong. We never bother with the stems as they are mild compared to the roots.
The leaves are tasty as well.
I was wondering what the wood itself is like, such as does it have a scent? and what it can be used for building?

That’s not true Ceylon cinnamon which is Cinnamomum Verum. What they’re harvesting is Chinese Cinnamomum Cassia, and yes there’s a big difference.
He didn't claim this is Ceylon cinnamon. He just said this is cinnamon.
Sadly this unhealthier species is mass produced while the species with health benefits is more expensive and can only be found at healthfood speciality stores 🥲
But it's still cinnamon
This is true. I hate Ceylon cinnamon. It's the type they use to flavor Red Hots and Hot Tamales.
Technically we all live on earth, but my part or earth has a name(country) and your part too. To differentiate. Believe that is what this good person was trying to do. Because all cinnamon is not the same

I'm just flabbergasted at how many people are shocked by this information as if they never ate something that isn't grown from the ground😂😂😂
It’s not that they’re shocked by eating something that came from a plant. It said they’re shocked that they are damaging the tree by removing the inner bark which can harm the tree. Lots of other plant products like fruits, vegetables, tubers, etc. don’t actually harm the plant when harvested.

I was taught the more respinsible growers/harvesters take bark off branches, not the trunk itself. Cause yknow, taking away a tree's bark kills it basically if it's done like how it was in the video.
So... branches, not trunks.
It makes sense thank you ❤
I was wondering this. Because girdling a tree is one way to kill it. Essentially what they're doing here.
@@dandelionappreciator9712 It's the same, the cambium becomes exposed and dries, everything above the cut will die. They will probably cut the tree after peeling it.
@@dandelionappreciator9712 But isn't the cambium destroyed? No? I can't see that layer growing back after a harvest like that.

Guys..... I think we found a Facebook mom

It's the layer of candibium.. Very strange, ring barking and killing the tree, instead of just harvesting one side..
You cut the trunk and it regrows many branches in a circle around the stump. the branches then have a lot of bark.
@patrickkeller2193 Thank you, that makes complete sense! ✔️🗝

The Cassia bark, they make fake Cinnemon in Indonesia, Vietman and China is also slightly toxic and causes liver damages. While Ceylon bark the real Cinnemon is made of, is non-toxic and proven in clinical trials to reduce blood pressure and blood sugars.

I'll stick with Saigon cinnamon for most non-dessert dishes since it's health benefits and risks are pretty much equal to the other 4 species of best cinnamons in the world.

Americans need to be careful because cinnamon can be toxic in high doses unless it’s Ceylon cinnamon.
A lot of European bakery use Ceylon cinnamon due to it being less toxic and a better flavour.
It’s toxic because cinnamon trees are often grown in soil with lead.
Americans also used to stick burning c.sticks up their noses & some of them died doing this.
So you can't hold their hands thru everything. They're 'free' to do what they want- no matter how stoopid some often appear to the rest of the world.

The orginal cinnamon is found in only in Sri Lanka. This is a variation of the orginal breed. It’s fascinating how they harvest the orginal cinnamon in there. Worth watching. So different than this method
How do you know ceylon is the original?
