    Trim the end shoots about 4 inches. I usually do this on my squash vine plants after they are growing between 8 to 9 feet to encourage side shoots. After three to four days you’ll see side shoots bearing female flowers. Don’t throw the trimmings. Use it in stir fry or soup.

Add blood meal and fish fertilizer to boosts Nitrogen and phosphorus. Make sure they stay hydrated with water and at least 6 hours of Sun. Good Luck! Bottle gourd plants produce both male and female flowers. The plant will produce more male flowers if the temperature is too low. Move them to a shady area if they are in pots or use a cloth garden fabric to cover them when it’s too sunny to see if your plants will grow male flowers.

    • @AnabelsFinquita
      @AnabelsFinquita  3 года назад +3

      Don’t force them open! Obviously the plant is having some kind of issued! Add fertilizer (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) since cucumber plants are heavy feeders also extreme climate conditions can cause this like too cold or too hot. The plant can sense the lack of pollinators and the flowers won’t open! Usually the 2nd set of female flowers are the ones to open! Give it some time but don’t force it because that won’t work! 😉

    What is the cause of miscarriages in plants? For instance, my squash gets female flowers, but will not last.

    • @AnabelsFinquita
      @AnabelsFinquita  3 года назад +3

      Squash plants have a reputation for poor pollination. The causes are: 1- Too few bees or pollinators to move the pollen from the male to the female flowers. 2- A stretch of very cold or very hot weather when the flowers are in bloom. 3- Wet weather, if you must water, avoid early in the morning when the bloom fist open. As well, irrigate only the soil, not the plant.

      Fish fertilizer is what I use all the time! That is 💯 Nitrogen. Phosphorus will be good too for the fruit. Walmart, nursery, any plant store will have it.

      Make sure your soil have enough fertilizer, cucumbers are heavy eaters and also lots of water and Sun. That could be lack of nutrition or too much water an also NOT much water.

      🤔I would switch to a different variety first. Temperature, whether and Nitrogen levels are the main reason. Change the soil and planting spot in you can. Change!!! Is a way of creating new conditions for growth! Good Luck!

      You probably have a variety that does not need pollination to produce fruits. Your female Flowers will produce fruit without the male flowers, they already have the generic modified male pollen in it.

      Yes Nitrogen!!!! One of the best fertilizers for your plants! You can find it in fish fertilizer or blood meal. Nitrogen is one of the most distributed elements in nature.

    • @AnabelsFinquita
      @AnabelsFinquita  2 года назад

      @@georgekk5243 I recommend to sprinkle some Epsom salt around the plant. Epsom salt helps improve flower blooming, it can help plants grow bushier. If you have another cucumber plant with male flowers, you can extract the pollen with a paint brush and introduce it into the female flowers. Hope this help you!

    • @AnabelsFinquita

      Some cucumber plants only produce female flowers (hybrids), you will need male flowers from another plant to pollinate them to get fruit.
