Ill never forget the first time I shot my first Ak. My wife and I decided to shoot a can of spagettios. She hit it with her first shot with her Ar and the tomato sauce was dripping out of a little hole in the can. I took a shot with my AK and missed. Then my second shot hit the spagettios and completely exploded the whole can. I think that scenario pretty accurately describes the difference between the Ak and the Ar.
If they wanted to, they could probably call a slingshot an assault weapon. Agree with keeping stuff clean and ready to use when there is downtime, interesting video, William.
Good rant and explanation of the AK platform. I've never even fired one. I stayed with the AR and am happy with it. I liked your question to the folks who may be thinking of carrying so many magazines full when you queried "How many firefights do you think I'm going to get into?" I would say all it takes is one, but realistically you are correct. Ten to twelve fully loaded should be enough to get you where you need to go. 👍
@bdh3949 Try picking up 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 and think how far you could carry that.🤣 Yes, it only takes one time to need this stuff & be thankful you have it and know how to use it. I really liked the AR Platform for the longest time, & I still do. When it comes down to that usually hypothetical question, "If you could have only one gun to keep in this category, which would you choose? " I made that choice based upon what I had available. Somewhere along the line, the AR lost because it was more valuable when I went to sell my guns. 💰
Full size AK rifles are one heavy-duty rifle. I think if I had a choice now being older, I would go with pistol cartridge carbine like a Ruger PC 9-mm. They use high capacity pistol magazines and weigh a lot less. There like Ruger 10/22 chambered in 9-millimeter and ammo is available everywhere. 🐯👍
Why would u do that? If worried about weight .556 is actually lighter!!! You’re shooting a 9mm with 125 grain projectiles when u could shoot 55 grain projectiles with more power and less weight and recoil😂 I think u may need to actually grab a scale and figure this stuff out.
I’m got a pencil barrel AR total weight is 4.7 lbs and 30 rd mags of 50-55 grain 556 is going to be lighter to carry if u weigh mag vs mags total weight. (Aluminum is lightest) With the reliability and cost and performance the 556 definitely has a huge advantage I’m taking the 556 personally I’d still take my little rusty ak.
@jefferyboring4410 I wish I kept most of the guns I sold. I went 5 years without a job and wound up selling almost all my guns and accessories just to house payments. I wound up losing the house also, but that's life. When faced with keeping only one gun between the two, I took the AK. I had more stuff for the AR, like reloading equipment and components. Most AK ammo was steel case non reloadable.
What do you think of the Sig XM7, the Army's new battle rifle? I'm intrigued. I've never fired a 6.8mm round, but, on paper, it has better range, especially in the wind, and is a good compromise between weight, and the ability to penetrate obstacles and modern body armor. It is also a gas piston, like the AK.
@@armstrong2052 Oh yeah, mega-expensive. It's a vanity rifle, for sure. There's almost no use case for a civilian where 6.8 is meaningfully better than 5.56
@JohnnyStrelok nice dude, How is the 6.8 to .308.? I've owned every conversion ar 450bm 6arc 224 valk 6.5 Grendel ect. But sold a bunch during the pandemic. I've been curious compared to 6.8 spc and .308, how long barrel life is? Have you looked at LWRCI 6.8? I have a .224 Valkyrie in their "bigger" lower and I thought that's what should have been adopted. But I don't know shit. lol would have been good logistically imo. 🖖🍻🇺🇲
I personally think liberals continue to put forth insane "gun control measures," like limiting how much plastic can be on a rifle, specifically because they know it's stupid and will never pass, but they can toss their hands up and claim "we tried." I don't think liberal politicians even want to win federal elections anymore, they just don't care. They're getting paid by their donors either way, so why put forth the effort? Besides, Republican fiscal policy benefits them, because they're rich. It's like being on paid vacation your entire career. And anecdotally - I don't even know any liberals that think these are good ideas. I'm pretty sure the only people who support any of this crap are ultra-rich people who would never have need of a firearm anyway because they're doted on by the police, and they're concerned that one day the peasants might get tired of their shit.
@bdh3949 They can have my AKM when they pry it out of my cold, dead hands. 😆 Old guys shouldn't say that as death could happen any time & it's called a natural death. Unless you have a weapon in your hand always, that saying probably won't be a reality for us, "one foot in the grave" types.
Very well said! All of your points are spot on. The "old man" rifle is a 10/22 You can carry a couple hundred rounds no problem 😂🤣😂 My choice is different than yours which doesn't matter as long as you practice and all controls are second nature.
I own a galil ace g2 and a krebs ak. I still like ar15s and .308 ar10 the most. I firmly feel ar15s are a better system, it's user serviceable and logistically compatible with the most common stuff i would find/need. Cant take ak bolts and swap them. I boughta couple semi autos for drones lol #4 buck is what i would stock up on. 27 .22 cal pellets will work like a charm.
When’s the last time u saw a real ak bolt broken and needed swapped? … Never . All my aks are user serviceable. I built em all myself without specialty tools. Big vice and hammer squeezing rivets with a modded bolt cutter. Better keep that ar wet. I reload and shoot k after k for yrs through each. The ar has issues I even welded up the staked screws so they don’t come loose, the gas rings keep wearing out. I have to keep em oiled and the bolts wear out fast. My aks they don’t ever need anything. No oil no attention at all. The mags absolutely last forever even staying loaded. The ar the feed lips are thin they just don’t last like a ak but I respect ar their light and cheap to buy and shoot. But I don’t see how someone could say a ar is more reliable. That huge external piston is known better every one is going to it.
@jefferyboring4410 you can't swap ak bolts man. That's the point. You'd need go /no go gauges or a pre head spaced bolt. Aks aren't easy to assemble without tools. As for people adopting a long stroke non adjustable piston. Negative, I haven't. My x95s have them, but they're not too accurate either. The hellion and T7 both have adjustable short stroke pistons. Those are newer designs. I don't think I'm carrying a 12lb gun that can't shoot 1k. Because I have guns that will do that. I'd rather have a 7.62 galil over my x39 currently. Ammo is expensive, I'm still shooting trump 1st term ammo I bought for $5.25 for 20 rds wolf and tula. But 13-15 for 20 no thanks. 🤦
@@WilliamsKnifeLife not saying you can't because you could get lucky, but if you aren't, it's a sheet metal claymore under your face lol. U gotta oil AR their reliable especially if kept sprayed with oil but no doubt the ak can eat anything and be boot stomped open. Accuracy I’d say sounds stupid but I actually shoot the ak better !?! But im 42 and my knees hurt so I carry the ar better especially all the stupid mags. But id rather die fighting with my little rusty ak. If I had to carry a rifle forever far Maby ar but I won’t I’m not a runner I’d just rather stay and see it out. Also brush that 55g projectile really bounces way off on twigs. Shoot some tracers through woods and you’ll see how bad brush etc affect rounds. The 556 is affected twice as much as the fat little 124g projo.

I love both my AR & AK rifles, both have their place and usage but that said, I find it harder to find AK ammo in my area of Texas!
It is hard to find now that they cut out Russian and Chinese ammo. It was steel case, but cheap ten years or more ago.
Interesting to hear. Great insight.

The ak is a .30 caliber that won’t bankrupt you at the range. At 25 a box for nato 7.62 mag dumping a scar is like 60 bucks…
@wuldntuliktonoptb6861 7.62 NATO is crazy expensive compared to what I remember when I bought it last in the late 1980s
The AK is much more dependable and chambered for a .30 caliber.
