I had a dehiscence 8 months after a hysterectomy for cancer. I was not NPO because I was off the street for a routine Pap smear by my oncologist gynecologist, I heard him say, “whoops, hold still, don’t sit up.” Then he tells me I need immediate emergency surgery. I was taken over the bridge of the UMass building in Worcester to the operating room. I was calm because I had a good relationship with my surgeon. The next day I learned I had had a dehiscence and some bowels were intruding. I was discharged later that day.
