Certainly standing next to the comic giants of physical comedy such as Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin and others, is Louis de Funés. The funny Frenchman became a recognized star just about the latter half of his life and far over the French borders…
In “L'aile Ou La Cuisse” (1976) he portrays the recognized Gourmet Duchemin, who is off to fight for the art of cooking against cheap and unhealthy mass productions of his rival Tricatel (Julien Guiomar). At his side is his son, portrayed by another french comedy-legend (though not well known over the french borders) Colouche, who does a great job standing next to de Funés. The film is a feast, though de Funés’ first movie after his first heart-attack, that forced him to slow down his physical actions.
Musical accompaniment was given by french composer Vladimir Cosma, who did oh so many beautiful scores in the last 50 years, which became the voices for french cinema of the time and to which we will take a pleasant listen to now, remembering Louis de Funés and Colouche’s splendid performances and their way too early losses to the world… Enjoy!

Yes, an absolute classic French comedy, a favourite of my wife and I. A small correction, Colouche is spelt 'Coluche,' I had the great privilege of seeing him live in Lyon where I was doing my military service, an absolute comic genius but also with a big heart who created a restaurant chain for homeless people, 'Les Restos du Coeur.'

This one is way too much fun! Jazzy with a whole lot of other influences marinading the comic ideas. "T-Bone Steak" is medium rare with a initial feel of action-jazz suspense while Menu Dégustation is just plain fun. Mise en Bouche is a collection of joyous strings and muted trumpets. I was playing this at work and had a smile on my face for most of the day. Thank you for introducing us to Vladimir Cosma. More, please!

I've got two CD box sets from France of Vladimir Cosma's film scores. His versatility was amazing and his scores contain some wonderfully memorable melodies. His orchestrations were always unique too. Discovering his film work uncovers many wonderful gems over many years of work.

Hello, Fred! It's difficult to write today, the Internet is freezing due to the storm... But let's go... Gastronomy is a sacred subject for the French ( only they know the torture that was the invasion of " junkie food " in the country, first with Jacques Borel and then with McDonald's ) and " L'Aile ou La Cuisse " ( " The Wing or the Drumstick " ) is a fun " gastronomic comedy " starring two comedy legends: Louis de Funés ( affectionately known as " Fufu " ) and Michel Coluche ( actor awarded a Cesar in 1984 and philanthropist who died aged 41 in a motorcycle accident in 1986 ). Now, the comedy within the comedy: the Romanian composer Vladimir Cosma studied Jazz, folklore and wrote for theater. He hated comedy, but became an expert in genre! He complained: " It's a very difficult job, especially for those who don't want to write something poor, obvious, full of curious effects and not all funny (...)! I never pursued comedies, but the more I wrote, the more comedies were commissioned from me! "... But the important thing is that Cosma is a great composer who has already received two Cesar for Best Score ( the great " Diva " in 1982 and the spectacular " Le Bal " in 1984 ), for a total of 27 awards! The work presented here is elegant music with pop, Jazz , some folk and classical touches ( Cosma also wrote operas ), bringing together the best of much of what he learned! Thanks and bye!!!

I've always loved cinema and my friends think I'm an expert. But I know different...too much I have never seen and never will in the years I have left on this Earth. This is a new discovery for me...thanks Fred! Keep 'em coming.

    Grazie Fred😁👍🏻
    Divertente Vladimir Cosma❤👏🏻
È tutto giocato sulle antinomie: Duchemin/Tricatel, cucina tradizionale/cibi precotti, antichi valori/società moderna, anziani/giovani.
Of the films of Louis de Funès, I would like to hear the medleys of the "Fantomas" and "Le Gendarme" sagas.🙏🏼😅
