Ummm... this is everything I've been looking for - absolute perfection! Now, let me know if anyone wants to make 2 of these and put them up on Etsy --- you have a buyer! LOL
Great job. I have a question, just out of curiosity and not criticism. Other than the knob application, why not attach the original drawer front to the desk base? Just that knowing my kids, it would make it easier to keep their stuff contained, plus that piece is less likely to come loose (I know pockethole screws are incredibly strong) and the lifting portion would be lighter, making for fewer injuries. Can you tell that I am thinking about boys?
It would be really hard to use the desk space inside if the board was attached to the base. The idea is that the kids use the inside space of the drawer interior as their desk. When they are done they close it up and the tabletop stays clean. Also the drawer front gives them a handle. Technically you could leave it off all together- but then it doesn’t hide the mess inside, so I guess you can decide what means more to you!

Nifty idea. How much space is inside the desk? Could you mount a monitor on the inside of the desktop so you can use it when you open it up?
This idea is awesome!!!
May I ask for the dimensions of the built desk? Thank you

Can this be done as just one space, not cutting it into 2 desks/tops?
Sure
