I can see how they saved money doing it quickly and taking short-cuts. Putting tape over the hole would have been a good idea. Putting some gravel down before the base might have made the floor less likely to settle. Standing on a small piece of plywood would help spread out the load of the worker. I hope it all drains well to the corner. I think I would have wanted to tamp the floor with a tamping-tool. Will the moisture in the soil turn the foundation into a solid slab in a few days ??

I don't see how their system works. Like you say, they don't even compact the bed.
