I am still blown away of how awesome this song turned out! I will be having this on a loop for a while!! Thank you so much for having me apart of this project, I am still in awe!! Keep up the fantastic work!!!
A bit late but I had 2 theorys both on husker died and why he acts the way he does. As it’s known he is a Vietnam vet and well that war was brutal but there was kid fighters in that war. Maybe he well had to kill in self defense which effected him. He turned to drinking and gambling as a way to both cope and attempt to forget what he did but maybe that very gambling is what killed him in the end plus as a bat kinda thing you could maybe say he was a blood sucker or he viewed himself as a leech to loved ones and only brought them down with him not to mention he is oddly wholesome with how body was formed almost like a teddy bear plus is stated he is good with kids which is why the kid fighter tore him up further and why he feels like he is a husk of who he was
I love how husk isn't really talking about himself and his life but talks about why Charlie's dream that everyone can change for good will not happen, not because evil peoples can't change but because hell is full of broken beings, not necessarily evil, just broken with no hope to change because they won't ever try...This is something Alastor could never explain to charlie as she would not Believe it but husk is one of those broken souls and knows what he's talking about...Brilliant
It's also very textbook apathetic variety of depression. Regardless of the cause and past deeds, we have a fair number of tools in the therapists box handle it. And yes, hopelessness in ones own ability to get better isn't uncommon or indicative of such actually being the case when put to the test.
The crazy thing is that this song still fits even now that we know Husk was an Overlord before he became tied to Alastor. We don't know how he died, or who he was within the show (yet).
This is basically how husks song is in the show, he tells angel that they are all broken so just accept it, the only difference here is this husk seems more defeated than the husk is Loser Baby
4:46 i love how husker apologies to charlie and says that she has a good heart and that there might be someone worthy to be redeemed, but just doesn't believe it's him.
Yes. He doesn't think there's anyone who can save him. And honestly I don't think many people have shown him any real kindness. Or willingness to help him.
@@serrazimmerman5046 In short, he is actually a great subject for this goal. He is someone so filled with self-hatred he can't even see his own kindness. He has been running away from his past for so long he doesn't know how to do anything else. Likely the moment he feels someone is getting closer to him he will run away, go gambling and drinking away, always running away. Which means that his redemption would likely take extremely long time, but I mean, they are in hell, it is not like they don't have the time.
@@Elmithian Yes! Husk is an amazing candidate for Charlie's goal for redeeming demons. He just needs patience and understanding and someone to genuinely show that they care about him.
Love the concept for this. At first it seemed like Husk was just giving his life story. Thought it was purely to dissuade Charlie from trying. But by the end, with the way he sings, it seems like he’s giving her an education on the type of people she’ll likely be dealing with. Love how at the end he even lets her know she’s got her heart in the right place and she’s probably right about some people. Just not him
Thats kinda Ironic. I think Husk missed one important fact (I know its no. Cannon Just reflecting). Charlie is a Hellborn. Husk Calls her "Kid" but she's like twice as Old as him. She probably saw more fucked up things than Husk Even have chance to See in his life. If someone who lives in hell for over two hundred years sees hope... You should try... Just Like She said, She can handle more then he thinks.
@@klapacjuszanimomon8501 And to that, Husk says she has no chance to redeem him, while ignoring the fact that Charlie herself has a lesser chance of getting into heaven than himself.
I love how Husk always talks over Charlie during the song, just like he doesn't want to listen to her nor let her talk because he strongly believes he can't be saved and Charlie shouldn't waste her time with him.
or he so get used to hopelessness, the idea of anybody's giving him hope scares him and he shalters himself by shutting down charlie. either way its really intriguing
You know what’s really sad? All those who Charlie tries to help always tell her they have no chance of getting out of Hell, without even realizing that the girl they’re talking to has an even *less* of getting to Heaven than they do, if any at all.
Alastor’s laugh at 1:37 is so haunting. It’s reminiscent of how Val laughs in Vox and Angel’s songs, and it’s a reminder that despite how the Radio Demon acts, he’s still a manipulative overlord of hell
Ikr!!! They've done a different genre for every character and it fits so perfectly, not only that but they've nailed it every time. You can hear the passion and the care that goes into these songs.
I agree this is exactly the type of sound I'd expected from a character like husk, I also feel like he'd be the type to listen to Barns Courtney and "The Gambler" on repeat.
Am I the only one that thinks that makes no sense, if they got chills then they related to the lyric- but if you related to the lyric then you don't get chills when you do anything. am I wrong?
The way Charlie sings "If you think I'm giving up on you, big mistake" the same way Husk sang "If you think you're getting out of this, big mistake" is just perfect.
"Raise a glass to the empty hearted, we're too far gone to know where it all started." That line HITS. You can associate it with a lot of characters and real life, raising a glass to a fate that's been accepted and downing it. Going through so much, down a twisting path of pain and suffering that you're too far gone to remember where it all started in the first place after enduring a lot
The voice acting and soundtrack Was amazing and Shows husker's character: A man who suffered a lot and believes to be far from redeemable and Not worthy to be loved. A truly tragic character. Hopefully he will learn in the Show he can be redeemed and worthy to be loved.
The fact that he drowns himself in alcohol, gambling, let's other push himself around but then immediately and fiercely rejects an offer of redemption, not in a mean way, but in a tired way of a man that has done nothing but continue running away from his sorrows makes it clear that he is _far from_ hollow. And far from being unable to gain redemption. He is the type that will run away again and again and again, but every time he runs away from a thing that seems likely or has started to move his old heart, the running away will get harder and harder, he will need to drink and gamble more and more just to keep it out of his mind... ...until he will have to face a decision. To constantly feel as he is failing to run away or face his sorrows, the things tugging at his tired heart. And that's when you latch onto him and try to guide him to a path of redemption. But even then, don't expect him not to run away once in a while. Just make it sure that no matter how often he runs away, you will always be there to find him again. This is Hell, you have eternity to break his defenses. He is an old and tired soul, so the only thing you can do is to out patience his resistance.
Kind as the sentiment is, you’d get told he faced that decision a long time ago. Better be prepared to wait a while. Getting out of those situations often needs a helping hand, but in the end the choice only ever belongs to the one in the hole.
@@skycastrum5803 I would say yes and no. Yes, the final steps to escape often belong to the one in the hole, but I would argue that depending on the person, they actually react better to being dragged out by force than doing it themselves. A friend of mine was starting to hit into harder drugs at one point, ye know what my best friend did? He pulled and dragged the bugger back into the light with force. Then lived with him for couple of months to make sure he remained stable and dry. This friend of mine is now an active swimmer, goes hiking regularly and has a stable job. Every Christmas he sends my best friend a gift as thanks for the act. The final step, to remain sober and of the crap was his, yes, but that was after being given luxury lift up out of the hole. We all put high value autonomy, but the truth is we are all awfully flawed, sometimes some of us _need_ to get dragged out of our own self-destructive tendencies by force.
I know what it means to truely be a hollow Husk. Husk is too much of a whiner to live up to his name. He's bitter. He's struggling to see the point. Someone going through apathy in it's purest form wouldn't be tired and fed up like that. He's tired. Worn down. And Husk brings it on himself. At least until he handles Angel. Which is actually because of Alastor putting Husk at the bar in the hotel. Which may be Alastor's plan, knowing how good Husk is at observation. It's ironice. Alastor saw it all as a slim shot, but he's got to try. And in that he set the stage for when Angel is used as proof against the angels. Which is because of Husk. The pawn Alastor placed on the board. Husk can hate Alastor as much as he wants, but he's making the right moves here. Another interesting detail is how Alastor will make that deal with Charlie which gets her out of that wallowing rut. Sure, he's got his own agender. He's going to use you for his own ends. But if it gets people focused on something then is it that bad? Alastor can't just spoon feed people the answers though. He's going to let Husk hate and wallow, just like Charlie did. Alastor has seen it all before. Same old song and dance. Husk hates on Alastor because he's jealous and wants to be in control himself. Alastor also threatens to shatter Husk's soul at one point. Wasted threat on someone like me. Watch as Husk cowers at that. If he really was a husk then there'd be nothing to shatter. He isn't as far gone as he thinks. He's too busy trying to drown his sorrows in drink. A warning he states to Angel. This show really shows how the characters struggle. In more obvious ways, but also in much more subtle ways. There's a lot I could say about Angel for example. One line alone gives a lot of clues. When they mentoned being garbage in the past. Which means it boils down to being valued wtih Val, or being nothing. That's just one example. And it's only season one with Hazbin Hotel. Not even at season two yet.
Love the parallel between "Smile like you mean it" and this song. They have a section, that both has a rhythmical similarity and are quite close to one another with the lyrics. Smile like you mean it: Husk: They say you reap what you sow And in this town, you should damn well know That what the Radio Demon wants He’s gonna take I’ve seen him kill Hell’s greatest evils Shake the status quo in upheaval So if you think you're gettin’ outta this? Big mistake… In this song: Charlie: You may well reap what you sew But that isn't how this program goes 'cause in the end, all that we want is your soul saved [...] I've watched the fall of many people Both the good and the downright evil But if you think I'm giving up on you, big mistake!
When I was first introduced to Husk, I genuinely liked him. He came off as a real devil-may-care kind of person. But, through this song, you find that Husk lives up to the namesake, albeit one that tells you about his past; he never gives any details, just the clues to piece together his life and state a clear message: there is nothing here to redeem. Yet, he was willing to lay it all out for someone who was willing to lend an ear and, in a way, it's more than an obligation; there is something in him that cares. Thank you for this song; it really touches my heart to know that there's more to the character than meets the eye.
As someone who used to work in a pediatric and adult psychological unit in a hospital, this song definitely resonates with me. Some of them wanted to get better, some were just there because their family or psychologist forced them to be there. It is so hard to get through to the later, and it takes a very long time (sometimes years), but the end result is always worth all the hard work. Thank you so much for creating this song! Not only is it a banger, but gives such a good message!
well if you are what you say you are tell me is it normal for someone to minorly hurt themselves (like scratching) even at the smallest inconveniences?
This and 'Addict' really show how it can take as little as 5 minutes to add a ton of depth to a character. And make an audience connect with a character they didn't really have an opinion on. I love it. Also, 'but I can't be fucked to lose my patience' always makes me chuckle for some reason. The delivery and how blunt it is just cracks me up.
This song is awsome, it show how much of a cynical and disillusioned man Husker is but it also show that he is not beyond redemption, since he's rather nice with Charlie (which is more than you can say for a lot of the other sinners) and even cheer her up by saying that she is maybe right about someone. I really like the dynamic between those two and how Charlie believe in everyone and can make people like Angel or Husk be a little bit more empathic because even if Angel like to piss of Vaggie he is nicer to Charlie and don't wanna saddened her.
I believe that with their being a lil good in Husk does give him a chance to be redeemed but he'll be the hardest one. to redeem but kindness can bring people out of hell.
@@wolfgirlsurvivor925 I honestly think that Alastor, who is a serial killer with cannibalistic tendencies and only care about himself while completly diregarding the very idea of redemption while be a lot harder to redeem since unlike him, you can still see that their is good in Husk.
@@bosskaiju4834 I think this is talking about people who will (eventually) want to be redeemed. For Alastor hell is the best place he’s been in. So he wouldn’t want redemption
I’ve been thinking about why some demons keep their human name and others don’t. I think I figured out why and it comes from Sir Pentius getting mad at being called Edward. The demons who keep their name are people who know who they are, they never tried to be anyone different. The ones that changed their names are the ones distancing themselves from who they were as people, for one reason or another they hate who they were and their new name reflects something personal about them. Angel Dust is named after a drug, Husk is a tired man who’s jaded and hollow. He’s just a Husk of a man
Husk not wanting because of the war is Something intrestig like he accept being in hell cause he thinks he belongs there because of everything he done on war
For someone that claims they can't cry, he's sure a cry baby. For someone that claims they can't hate, they hate on Alastor. He's lying to himself. Without even realizing it. That's what makes people bitter. The lies they tell themselves.
I did have a bit of a theory and why husk is the way he is. I have heard he was a Vietnam veteran so maybe he did something like kill civilians in the moment believing it was needed or justified but after the war he realized more than likely those people where innocent and began to drink and gamble to cope i have a grandfather who was in that war while he wasn’t boots on the ground he saw it 1st hand in friends
It's so lame, that you can see it was done by someone who never knew a gambler; either that or they're in denial of their own gambling demon. Either way it's unimpressive to those it matters to, and if it can't reach the TRUE target audience it sucks.
@@salemcrow5078 I mean if a gambler heard this, they wouldn't know it was about their addiction. Legit JUST the lyrics with no knowledge of the series would mean NOTHING to someone who needs help.
@@leppender2450 It almost sounds like you're in need of help, hoped this song would help you somehow, and got upset when it didn't. This song's "TRUE target audience" isn't gamblers. This song's purpose is not to give help to someone who needs help. You call it lame because you're judging it on a metric that it wasn't intended to be judged on. Maybe hire the services of a psychiatrist?
1. This sounds like a song that is very reminiscent of the old fallouts songs which already fits Husk as is because of the whole war veteran thing. 2. Charlie using Husk’s motif from ‘Smile Like You Mean It’ hits way harder than I was ready for, but I love it either way. I never thought motifs switching out like that would work so well. Keep staying true to your work, it’s more noticeable that you might think.
I like how Husk isn't wrong. "Tell me, how you gonna fix me?" and her answer is "Give me a chance". Don't get me wrong, her positivity is coming from the right place, but to someone older and more jaded, an answer like that is too wishy-washy to be taken seriously. It suggests she has no plan, just a desire to try. Good intentions, but the road to hell is paved with such acts.
Yes ... I'm getting the sense that Charlie not quite knowing what she's doing with very volatile people who have very volatile problems is part of the tension of the whole series. The pain caused for everyone when serious, complicated, and unstable situations are interrupted by someone who doesn't grasp these difficulties can be horrific.
I think pilot Charlie has more of grasp on the reality then Canon Charlie. Here she's got plans treatments or seems to for people's specific sins and situation. In the series she very much seems like she's for no idea what she's doing.
Charlie is naive and Husk knows it. She's got the right idea, but she's not going to get results if she's JUST positive. Even Husk himself will straight up tell Angel they're a loser, which gets Angel to accept themselves and learn courage. It's about pointing out the flaws. Charlie didn't do that with Husk in this song. And Husk saw through it. He asked a question. He wanted an answer. Not an excuse or false hope.
To be fair to her.... She said "Tell me your life story", then he proceeded to tell her nothing about his actual life story other than the fact he used to be a very very bad person without even saying what he did that was bad, gave her NO information at all to work with, then said "Now, what are you gonna do to fix me?!" So she COULDN'T have a chance, she COULDN'T have a plan. It's not about wishy-washy, it's that he never wanted her to try in the first place. When she said give me a chance, she's not saying she can just find an answer out of nowhere, she's saying "You aren't trying, and you can't keep telling me I can't do it if you won't at least let me try." If I told you my car was broken down and there's no point in trying to fix it, and you asked to take a look at it, then I said "It's all rusty and doesn't run right and it kicks off constantly and it's an old piece of shit and I've brought it to other mechanics, it just doesn't work man. So what's wrong with it?" and you said "... idk, man, give me a chance to look at it." and I respond "See? You don't know when to give up. Grow up." You'd be ticked off too.
I could see that@@titusfortunus2916 She wants people to be willing to try like her and struggles when she meets the more 'eyore' type of people (clinical depression)
I already loved Huskers part in Smile like you mean it, and now he´s getting a whole song to himself???? What did I do to deserve this!?? I already know I´m gonna have this on loop when it drops!!😍😍 Edit: I do even now still!^^
Omg I know! Did you notice the callback to Smile Like You Mean It? Husk says "so if you think you're getting out if this, big mistake" and in this, Charlie says "but if you think I'm giving up on you, big mistake." Absolutley in love with all of their work! There's so much detail, time, effort, and talent poured into every song! On top if it being cannon with the storyline in each!
"I lost the ability to love years ago". There's a whole story behind that line, and this song really captures the tone and attitude behind that mystery. This song hits hard and dirty, like a bottle of cheap booze smashed onto a dusty road, and that's just how it should be! Well done!
2:07 i love that Charlie is singing the motif that Husk sings in 'Smile Like You Mean It.' As a long-time listener, very fun to find these little details. Good work!!
I LOVE the use of the 'smile like you mean it' melody for Charlie. It's as if Charlie is either trying to convince Husk using his own words or Husk has taken inspiration from her, depending on which scene happened first. The different genre from your other music makes it all the more interesting, and I feel like you nailed fitting it right in with the story you're telling. Amazing job!
This song blew me away. It actually shows he understands and accepts his problem which is the first step. Most alcoholics can't even admit they have a problem or think anything is wrong. This was powerful and I loved it
After watching episode 4, I kinda wish we get sequel extension with this between Husk and Charlie. hey! It worked for Stolas, so might as well give this a special retool edition to boost.
The second I heard those guitar strings, I knew this was going to be amazing. And it is! The melodies, the back and forth with Charlie, the little parody for 'Smile Like You Mean It'. It's so amazing what you, Cycoriot, and Ninjahaku have doen for this! I can sense the begrudging acceptance of Husk and his self within the art as well as the lyrics and it's just perfect. You and all the artists involved or featured on your tracks and projects understand the assignment to the letter and deliver some of the best content this fanbase has heard/seen ever, and that's no exaggeration. Keep up the wonderful work, PARANOiD, Cycoriot, Ninjahaku, and everyone else that's been with you on this channel.
Lyrics: (Husker): I was once a wandering man ‘Cause I never felt at home. Now I’m just a gamblin’ man Risking everything I own The only Spirit left in me’s From a bottle off the shelf. So don’t think you can bring my walls down I drank my fill and in that I’m sure to drown… (Charlie) Give us a chance to set you free If you’d just put your faith in me! You could grow and heal and change You don’t need to suffer all this pain! (Husker) Is it really that hard to see? There’s nothing left inside of me… I can’t love or cry or hate So who the fuck cares about my fate? (Charlie & Husker) But - NO! (Husker) Wicked old soul Nowhere left to go at the beck and call of the ones who are in control So raise a glass for the empty hearted We’re too far gone to know when it started A shark of the cards never shows their hand And the same’s still true whether you’ve got claws or fangs. So don’t think you can bring my walls down I drank our fill and in that we’re sure to drown… Down beneath the ground, We’re sure to drown… In our burial mounds We’re sure to Drown! Taste the blood in our mouths We’re sure to DROWN! And now there’s no way out, WE’RE SURE TO DROWN Just lay my head down We’re sure to drown Too lost to be found We’re sure to Drown. With my hands still bound We’re sure to DROWN! I’m already drowned…
It really gives the vibe of that old style casino feel, a gambler with only a few cards left in the deck to keep him together, and static that just won't go away. A beautiful piece like the rest.
Oh my goodness this is so COOL!!! I love the back and forth you did with the characters!! and the way you weaved the narrative in the song was amazing!! wonderful work from everyone involved in this!! :D
Oh my gosh I know! I liked the semi call back to Smile Like You Mean It as well! When Husk steps in during Al's song and goes "if you think you're getting out of this, big mistake" and in this, Charlie says "but if you think I'm giving up on you, big mistake." There's so much time, thought, and talent poured into each song, on top of the cannon and storyline in each, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
@@laladoodieincarnate I did notice that!!! It's one of those things you can easily miss which makes it even more amazing, small signature details like that signify just how much control and power AL has over Husk, truly amazing 👏
I love how DJ literally takes a single line from a previous song and throws it into his new songs. Its the spice we all know and love that makes these songs even more epic!
Stunning, that's all I can say. There's something about the chorus in all of your songs that is just SO GOOD. The reference to "Smile like you mean it" by Charlie was a fun surprise. And do I even need to say anything about the vocals? They are godly. Or demonly? You know what I mean.
Husk's deep gruff tone mixing with Charlies is just...*chef's kiss* amazing! Props to them both. (And Cyroriot your art and designs are sublime!) And the artwork by ninjahaku is top notch! I blast this song when im playing deathslinger on DBD x3 so if survs catch me headbanging, im playing this lol.
Glad you pursue this because Husk has always been my favorite and there's just not enough of him around. I'm a recovering alcoholic and have always thought I was a shit person, but also don't want to put my problems on someone else to solve, so this shit hits hard. I've had this on loop for so many hours at work.
This song is on a whole other level of wildly entertaining! I won’t lie when I tell you that there was a day where this was the only song I played; just on loop! And I still want more of this!
Gah this was awesome! I feel like it perfectly captures what we know so far about Husk. He really is the more down-to-earth one out of everyone in the hotel, fully aware that he's down in Hell for what he did in life and he's accepted it. He feels there is no hope for him because he doesn't deserve hope, and while he might find Charlie's cheerful naivete endearing, he believes she won't be able to break through those walls he put up. *"The only spirit left in me's from a bottle off the shelf"* This might be my favorite line in the whole song, how it emphasizes how his obvious alcoholism has consumed him, filling up this husk of a man, to quote Silva Hound's own Husk track. The song itself almost feels like a continuation of "Smile Like You Mean It" but from Husk's perspective, which is why I noticed Charlie's parts sounded a lot like his in Alastor's song. He even chuckles as the words sound familiar. Outstanding job as always, DJ! Looking forward to what you come up with in the future!
"When you've resolved yourself to the path you've set yourself on, you find the voices of those you love reach you, but you cannot find the sense behind their words; because you've said all you want to hear. It's not always set in stone that yours are all that you WILL hear."
I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but the way you perfectly capture these characters is astounding!! Especially for a character like Husk, who we don’t know quite as much about, yet this feels perfectly in character with him and even with how he’d sing! Another fantastic job!!!
You never fail to not disappoint. This song shows the same thoughts I think a lot of the fans have for Husk; the potential of being the hardest project. Everything about the song showed off why his name is exactly that: he is a husk of his former human self. And he accepts that and no amount of optimism will change it. This song made me so excited for Husk's role to be expounded on even more. Song choice, genere of song, is amazing. Love the Rock n Roll vibe for Husk so much!!
Damn, i feel for husk. Got a friend who is of the same mindset, while he still looks out for everyone around him. I am trying to help, but as you said this is extremely difficult to fix. Cant save someone who doesnt want to be saved
I think country Rock style fits Husk perfectly. since we don't know when he died he could very well possibly died in the 1800's gambling away his life till the end.
How did you manage to capture every core character's identity so well??? Every original song you've done, you consistently nail every aspect of the characters.
I am speechless! This song rocks!! 🤘😁 It’s been a while since you sang as Husk and now getting to hear him starting in his own song, it feels like the wait was def worth it! ❤️ Ok, time to gush. The fact that it’s technically a duet makes it even better. Thinking back on the pilot, it was interesting to see how excited Charlie was to have Husk at the hotel, only to be let down by him in a blunt and dismissive way. “Omigosh! Welcome to the Happy Hotel! You are gonna LOVE IT HERE!!” “I lost the ability to love years ago.” The way they bounce off each other; Charlie’s attempts to get him to try and let her help him, while Husk says that there’s nothing she can do for him. He feels like he’s too far gone to be redeemed. You can hear it in his voice, how bitter and defeated he feels about his situation. Working under a boss he dislikes, trapped in Hell for eternity, and all he can do to cope is numb himself w/ alcohol. He’s a broken shell of who he was. 🥺💔 But I still love this sound and rhythm of it, like an old rock song with a hint of Blues in it. It’s going to be my ear worm for weeks now if I keep coming back to listen. I give it a 💯/10!
Really like the short repose between last two choruses, where Husk switches between singing about just himself and the bigger part if the damned souls. Makes for a really powerful moment.
THIS IS JUST FUCKING AMAZING-- The music and the lyrics fit soooo much with Husk and omg the quote of Alasor's song is just NHHHHHGGG I'M GONNA CRY-- 🤧🤧 And, I know Husk's voice is hard for you to do, but I really love your version ❤️🔥
"Maybe you're right about someone, just not for me" You know? I think this is the finest proof that there IS a way to redeemed people like Husk. If Charlie keeps him at the hotel, just doing his bartender job, and not expecting any change from him. It'll take decades, but if Charlie manages to become Husk's friend (and if the Hotel actually works) he may start shifting his perspective in life. I'll love if this was his Redemption Story, it'll show the PAINFULLY slow and gradual process it is for someone who's given up, and how your environment and people around you can play a major influence.
HOW DO YOU KEEP MANAGING TO OUT-DO YOURSELF, SERIOUSLY! THIS IS *SO* GOOD. I love the western rock vibe of this one and the way Charlie and Husk reply to each other in the mid section? Perfection. Plus the way you can let your voice raise and lower in pitch (like in the line "There's a hole in me") is so so satisfying to listen to, your songs sound so professionally made they're like something you could hear playing on the radio!
I love this song, it’s has that small bit of country twang that makes me smile a bit and I also love how you make Husk sound a bit like an grumpy old man who just wants to be left alone to do his thing. Amazing work dude and shout out to that lady who plays Charlie too!
I am still blown away of how awesome this song turned out! I will be having this on a loop for a while!! Thank you so much for having me apart of this project, I am still in awe!! Keep up the fantastic work!!!
Yeah the beginning perfectly captures the characters like the rest of this song
Yeah, Having Charlie use the tune from Husk's verse of Smile Like You Mean It was a good touch.
Good job husker
A bit late but I had 2 theorys both on husker died and why he acts the way he does. As it’s known he is a Vietnam vet and well that war was brutal but there was kid fighters in that war. Maybe he well had to kill in self defense which effected him. He turned to drinking and gambling as a way to both cope and attempt to forget what he did but maybe that very gambling is what killed him in the end plus as a bat kinda thing you could maybe say he was a blood sucker or he viewed himself as a leech to loved ones and only brought them down with him not to mention he is oddly wholesome with how body was formed almost like a teddy bear plus is stated he is good with kids which is why the kid fighter tore him up further and why he feels like he is a husk of who he was
Great job Husk

I love how husk isn't really talking about himself and his life but talks about why Charlie's dream that everyone can change for good will not happen, not because evil peoples can't change but because hell is full of broken beings, not necessarily evil, just broken with no hope to change because they won't ever try...This is something Alastor could never explain to charlie as she would not Believe it but husk is one of those broken souls and knows what he's talking about...Brilliant

It's also very textbook apathetic variety of depression. Regardless of the cause and past deeds, we have a fair number of tools in the therapists box handle it.

The biggest question I’ve got regarding Husk’s background after that revelation is this: why did Alastor spare him unlike the other overlords?
@@HuginnHufflepuff control, the other overlords likely did not give alastor everything and Al loves complete control over his tools
And I believe with time Husk can definitely be redeemed.
@@TheAbsentiia oop! Hi Husk lol. Good to see you.
I agree 🥲🤌🏼
This is the perfect Husk anthem even after watching the first 4 episodes of the series, everything fits him spot on and his tragic situation. 😭
Especially after ep 5 too
The way Charlie sings "If you think I'm giving up on you, big mistake" the same way Husk sang "If you think you're getting out of this, big mistake" is just perfect.
I think that entire part, from when charlie says "you may well reap what you sow", is a reference to smile like you mean it
"Raise a glass to the empty hearted, we're too far gone to know where it all started."
That line HITS. You can associate it with a lot of characters and real life, raising a glass to a fate that's been accepted and downing it. Going through so much, down a twisting path of pain and suffering that you're too far gone to remember where it all started in the first place after enduring a lot
Rel. 🥲
I love how it doesn’t really portray husk as a bad person, just a person with no hope left in his soul
The voice acting and soundtrack Was amazing and Shows husker's character:
A man who suffered a lot and believes to be far from redeemable and Not worthy to be loved. A truly tragic character. Hopefully he will learn in the Show he can be redeemed and worthy to be loved.
Perhaps, but his character is true of more people than not.
That's why the tragedy is necessary.
Inspirational words of wisdom, dear Spirit.
.... I need to stay away from you, you can find weaknesses.
These hit different now the show is out, especially the interaction with husker and Alastor
Love the parallel between "Smile like you mean it" and this song. They have a section, that both has a rhythmical similarity and are quite close to one another with the lyrics.
Smile like you mean it:
Husk: They say you reap what you sow
And in this town, you should damn well know
That what the Radio Demon wants
He’s gonna take
I’ve seen him kill Hell’s greatest evils
Shake the status quo in upheaval
So if you think you're gettin’ outta this?
Big mistake…
In this song:
Charlie: You may well reap what you sew
But that isn't how this program goes
'cause in the end, all that we want is your soul saved
[...]
I've watched the fall of many people
Both the good and the downright evil
But if you think I'm giving up on you, big mistake!
Adam: Hell is forever!
Husker: Hell is forever for me.

This song really dug deep into a character we don't know much about the level of depth brought into this song was insane.
I did have a bit of a theory and why husk is the way he is. It's so lame, that you can see it was done by someone who never knew a gambler; either that or they're in denial of their own gambling demon. Either way it's unimpressive to those it matters to, and if it can't reach the TRUE target audience it sucks.

You’re so prominent in the community that these songs are basically just canon at this rate-

Okay
i mean... not to be rude.. but that is sorta exactly what motifs are for?
He's old enough to be in WW1, i'd be quite surprised if he wasn't there.
When she said give me a chance, she's not saying she can just find an answer out of nowhere, she's saying "You aren't trying, and you can't keep telling me I can't do it if you won't at least let me try."
If I told you my car was broken down and there's no point in trying to fix it, and you asked to take a look at it, then I said "It's all rusty and doesn't run right and it kicks off constantly and it's an old piece of shit and I've brought it to other mechanics, it just doesn't work man. So what's wrong with it?" and you said "... idk, man, give me a chance to look at it." and I respond "See? You don't know when to give up. Grow up." You'd be ticked off too.
I could see that@@titusfortunus2916

I LOVE the use of the 'smile like you mean it' melody for Charlie. It's as if Charlie is either trying to convince Husk using his own words or Husk has taken inspiration from her, depending on which scene happened first. The different genre from your other music makes it all the more interesting, and I feel like you nailed fitting it right in with the story you're telling. Amazing job!

Go and try to get me clean!
(Charlie)
Give me the chance to
prove what I could do!
(Husker)
But the rot runs deep inside this shell of mine
‘til there ain’t nothing to redeem
(Charlie)
But -
(Husker)
There is a h-o-l-e in me…
And it’s ex-p-o-s-ed for the world to see.
And you k-n-o-w…
That I’m a wrench in your machine.
Though you try, I’ll have to
show some patience to tell you
So I’ll be complacent
I’M A Wicked old soul
Nowhere left to go
at the beck and call of the man on the radio
Raise a glass for the empty hearted
Too far gone to know when it started
A shark of the cards never shows his hand
And the same’s still true
when you have these claws and fangs.
So don’t think you can
bring my walls down
I drank my fill and
in that I’m sure to drown…
(Charlie)
Give us a chance to set you free
If you’d just put your faith in me!
You could grow and heal and change
You don’t need to suffer all this pain!
(Husker)
Is it really that hard to see?
There’s nothing left inside of me…
I can’t love or cry or hate
So who the fuck cares about my fate?
(Charlie & Husker)
But - NO!
(Husker)
Wicked old soul
Nowhere left to go
at the beck and call of the ones who are in control
So raise a glass for the empty hearted
We’re too far gone to know when it started
A shark of the cards never shows their hand
And the same’s still true
whether you’ve got claws or fangs.
So don’t think you can
bring my walls down
I drank our fill and
in that we’re sure to drown…
Down beneath the ground,
We’re sure to drown…
In our burial mounds
We’re sure to Drown!
Taste the blood in our mouths
We’re sure to DROWN!
And now there’s no way out,
WE’RE SURE TO DROWN
Just lay my head down
We’re sure to drown
Too lost to be found
We’re sure to Drown.
With my hands still bound
We’re sure to DROWN!
I’m already drowned…
Thanks!!
Thank yooooou
NICE!
Thanks man, a model person in the comment section of any banger song.
Thanks
Whoever did the Charlie voice deserves all praise for how beautiful her singing voice is.
I'm really excited my favorite character after Alastor is coming now
Me tooo🥰
Cycoriot sounded downright heavenly. Pun absolutely intended. I hope we get a Charlie song next with her reprising her role.
I love how you used Husker’s part in “Smile Like You Mean It” for Charlie. So much creativity and beautiful singing and voices. 100/10
It really gives the vibe of that old style casino feel, a gambler with only a few cards left in the deck to keep him together, and static that just won't go away. A beautiful piece like the rest.
I'm loving this old western-ish style, it goes so well with his voice.
I love how these songs are dialogues between characters and the creativity put into each one to match the character singing for musical genre
Oh my goodness this is so COOL!!! I love the back and forth you did with the characters!! and the way you weaved the narrative in the song was amazing!! wonderful work from everyone involved in this!! :D
IT'S CHI-CHII HECK YEAH THIS SONG DESERVES RECOGNITION
Oh my gosh I know! I liked the semi call back to Smile Like You Mean It as well! When Husk steps in during Al's song and goes "if you think you're getting out of this, big mistake" and in this, Charlie says "but if you think I'm giving up on you, big mistake." There's so much time, thought, and talent poured into each song, on top of the cannon and storyline in each, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
Real recognizes Real
@@AlyssaRose590 1:38 if you listen closely you can hear Alastors' laugh and if you look closely there he is smiling like in Smile like you mean it
@@laladoodieincarnate I did notice that!!! It's one of those things you can easily miss which makes it even more amazing, small signature details like that signify just how much control and power AL has over Husk, truly amazing 👏
“There’s a hole in me” chills every time no lie
I love how DJ literally takes a single line from a previous song and throws it into his new songs. Its the spice we all know and love that makes these songs even more epic!
0:01 The dialogue is amazing, idk why people want to skip it.
same I'm here for the duologue and song
Stunning, that's all I can say. There's something about the chorus in all of your songs that is just SO GOOD. The reference to "Smile like you mean it" by Charlie was a fun surprise. And do I even need to say anything about the vocals?
They are godly. Or demonly? You know what I mean.
Hellish? Demonic?
I love how sure husk is.
Confidence is a wonderful trait.
Even if it is in his self loathing.
As a husk Va myself I can say this here puts a Smile on my face. Seeing more Husk appreciation makes me happy.
his name is Husk, his story's all written right there in his name (also I'd love to know more about his lore when s2 releases)
This man’s ability to produce straight up banger after banger is incredible
Husk's deep gruff tone mixing with Charlies is just...*chef's kiss* amazing! Props to them both. (And Cyroriot your art and designs are sublime!)
And the artwork by ninjahaku is top notch!
I blast this song when im playing deathslinger on DBD x3 so if survs catch me headbanging, im playing this lol.
I love how well Charles version of Husk’s solo from ‘Smile Like You Mean It’ flows into Husk’s story!
Glad you pursue this because Husk has always been my favorite and there's just not enough of him around. I'm a recovering alcoholic and have always thought I was a shit person, but also don't want to put my problems on someone else to solve, so this shit hits hard. I've had this on loop for so many hours at work.
Man, the lyrics tell the story why he calls himself "Husk."
*"The only spirit left in me's from a bottle off the shelf"*
This might be my favorite line in the whole song, how it emphasizes how his obvious alcoholism has consumed him, filling up this husk of a man, to quote Silva Hound's own Husk track.
I want to see this animated to see the interaction between him and Charlie
This song rocked and slapped me way harder than I thought it would. Now imagine if Keith David gave this song a try.
It transitions from traditional country to a country rock style.
Along with rock and roll it also sounds very country and I like that as well
@@haleyroberts9916 Me too
Damn, i feel for husk.
I love the country/cowboy + rock theme this song has!! Definitely it's own animal. Love it so much!!
ПРЕКРАСНАЯ ПЕСНЯ, под этот припев хочется делать великие дела🖤
Согласна ✨❤️
Looking at this after watching "Loser baby" the line about Charlie not having a shot at bringing Husk's walls down really lands differently.
How did you manage to capture every core character's identity so well??? Every original song you've done, you consistently nail every aspect of the characters.
“Good luck at getting me clean”
ANGEL KNOCKS DOWN THE DOOR
“I SENSE A CHALLENGE”
I really appreciate him getting a country-rock aesthetic it really fits him!
i wonder how this song would sound with huskers new voice actor keith david cause it might make this awesome song grittier
"Raise a glass for the empty hearted" hits real hard 😭
I love love LOVE Charlie's callback to "Smile Like You Mean It"
I love how Charlie's part mimics Husker's part in Smile Like you Mean it.
I love how the last chorus is the same as the others, except he is talking about people like him in general, instead of him specifically
Another perfect original song DJ, ya both did amazingly
Husk's blunt attitude towards Charlie's 'redemption' idea trying to get the point across
after this weeks episode, this REALLY fits Husk!
I am speechless! This song rocks!! 🤘😁 It’s been a while since you sang as Husk and now getting to hear him starting in his own song, it feels like the wait was def worth it! ❤️
Ok, time to gush. The fact that it’s technically a duet makes it even better. Thinking back on the pilot, it was interesting to see how excited Charlie was to have Husk at the hotel, only to be let down by him in a blunt and dismissive way.
“Omigosh! Welcome to the Happy Hotel! You are gonna LOVE IT HERE!!”
“I lost the ability to love years ago.”
The way they bounce off each other; Charlie’s attempts to get him to try and let her help him, while Husk says that there’s nothing she can do for him. 🥺💔
But I still love this sound and rhythm of it, like an old rock song with a hint of Blues in it. It’s going to be my ear worm for weeks now if I keep coming back to listen. I give it a 💯/10!
Really like the short repose between last two choruses, where Husk switches between singing about just himself and the bigger part if the damned souls. Makes for a really powerful moment.
THIS
IS
JUST
FUCKING
AMAZING--
The music and the lyrics fit soooo much with Husk and omg the quote of Alasor's song is just NHHHHHGGG I'M GONNA CRY-- 🤧🤧
And, I know Husk's voice is hard for you to do, but I really love your version ❤️🔥
"Maybe you're right about someone, just not for me"
You know? I think this is the finest proof that there IS a way to redeemed people like Husk. If Charlie keeps him at the hotel, just doing his bartender job, and not expecting any change from him. It'll take decades, but if Charlie manages to become Husk's friend (and if the Hotel actually works) he may start shifting his perspective in life.
I'll love if this was his Redemption Story, it'll show the PAINFULLY slow and gradual process it is for someone who's given up, and how your environment and people around you can play a major influence.
Agreed
I like how DJ made some of Charlie's lyrics similar to Alastor in "Smile like you Mean it" and some of Huskers as well, but with a positive twist.
vaggie : life isnt a musical
alastor : SMILE LIKE YOU MEAN IT-
husk: I WAS ONCE A WANDERING MAN-
angel dust: GO AHEAD AND USE ME UP
Vaggie: “life isn’t a musical”
also a song in every episode 💀
REBUILT, REBORN! FROM THE FIRE OF THE SCORNED! I DON'T LET THE CARS DEFINE ME, THEY'RE THE BADGES I ADORN!
I love how this references the Sober cover as well as Smile Like You Mean it!
I only wish that Valentino (Angel and Vox ver.) was released on Spotify, I need more songs to listen on my way to school!
They are my friend! I listen to them at work all the time!
I guess you could say... I got hooked. And I’m smiling like I mean it.
having charlie's part be a leitmotiff of husk's own part in smile like you mean it (or vice versa) is the cherry on top
I love this song, it’s has that small bit of country twang that makes me smile a bit and I also love how you make Husk sound a bit like an grumpy old man who just wants to be left alone to do his thing.
Amazing work dude and shout out to that lady who plays Charlie too!
@Vizziepop, This song clearly deserve to be included in Hazbin Hotel Season 2
Charlie's verse having a similar tone to Husk's verse from "Smile like you mean it" is SUCH a cool detail! Great job as always!
The "I can't love or cry or hate" broke something inside of me, i love him so much😭❤️
I think its amazing how charlies part is husk's part from "smile like you mean it" but with slightly changed lyrics!
I’m mad I’m only just finding out how good this man’s music is.
