- These little pickup trucks are great until you want to adjust door gaps. Then forget it! Well, we try anyway. Come along as we repair a hinge that someone else repaired.
You nwent the extra mile for welding that tab . We need more guys like you who take pride in your work.
The hinges develop a groove where the metal bushing breaks open. This causes the door to sag, so a common fix was to weld in a washer over where the grommet sits and replace with a stronger pin.
I have the same problem with my 2002 Chevrolet S10 4x4 pickup. No one welded anything, but the bushings are shot. I have new pins and bushings. I saw a post where a guy uses a bolt and oversized nuts to make a press to press the new bushings in instead of hitting them with a hammer. Great video.
Very helpful...Still driving my 1996 Chevy S-10 extended cab
I've been trying to fox up my 2000 s10, I'm going so broke so fast
My auto shop is working on the chevy s 10 door now for the third time in one year now. It so frustrating all the money and the months without a vehicle just to get the door working right.
I hope the Chevy S 10 door is not an impossible repair its 26 years old but man still i put a lot of money into fixing it up i dont want to lose all the repair money i put into it if possible.
Finally after 3 months got done. Annoyingly so long of a time!
Well I appreciate you, it really helped that you said their are after market hinges that could be used. Oh, and the tips about the bushings will save a headache too. Thank you. I don't do welding or metal work but I can measure and drill holes. So getting the assembly might work better for me. Really good tutorial though thank's again.
Great repair and video - including the Bible verses! The holes in that air gun - I'm afraid that's you government at "work". The side holes give the air a place to go if the tip is pressed against something like a person. It prevents the tip from having full line pressure available. I'm not taking up for OSHA, but they are trying to foolproof the tool. Those bronze bushings - I think they break easily because they are made by a process called "sintering" - which means they're composed of little particles pressed together and cooked until they are bonded together where they touch. Kind of made porous, and able to hold lube. But the size of the particles, amount of them, pressure, and temperature are all variables that have to be controlled to make a strong bushing of consistent density. I have an '84 square body that needs door springs, and I bought repair kits that use a spring that attaches to one of the hinge bolts instead of being fed thru both hinge halves. Seemed like such a good idea until I realized the door still had to be removed to use them!!!!!!!!!
Man this is a really good video
Tanks for that !
Now i know what i Need to do whith my s10 door
Bless you from México
The holes on the blow gun is something Osha demands as a safty feature in case you get the nozzle directly up against your skin. Shops can't use the guns without them.
I remember my dad telling me be careful with one cuz it can blow your skin up if its near a cut, so the holes on the side makes sense now
They gentleman doesn't let anything out do him, he knows what he's doing and he say funny things to , I need a person who weighs 800 to sit on top of the door.
For future reference they do indeed make a tool which is nothing more than a lever for adjusting non-adjustable door hinges such as those on the Astro vans and s10s and it literally takes seconds however it was a bit amusing watching you dangle your self from the door...lol I've got a homemade tool and I've got a set of hinge pins to replace on my own Blazer so I will try to remember to make a video just to help those in the same boat
if you roll that window down you can flex that cornner and it will level right up
I picked up a set with stainless bushings from Amazon... they are going strong for 2 years no problems
That's a great tip. I have never liked the cintered brass ones. Thanks!
'98 S10 here in the rust belt. It is in excellent shape at 150K. I don't drive it in the winter when they salt the roads!
Came here looking for a way to pop the spring in place, thanks
12:35 those are safety holes so if the tip gets blocked. So say you accidentally touch the tip of the blow gun to your hand it doesn’t send the full 100+ psi through your skin
Looks like the replacement bracket could be welded directly onto the existing damaged bracket using pin and bushings for alignment, maybe?
I still driven my 2001 S10 , just did my door hinges ,she is as good as new now and lubed during assembly .
I'm curious, where did you buy your door hinge roller pin from ? I see Dorman but people say it doesn't fit.

The pressure relief holes in air nozzles exist because they are too small to mount a warning sticker on to.
Holding a high pressure nozzle against the skin (or eye) and blowing can cause injury, even blow and entrap air under the skin. Some guy horsyng around in the job probably did so to coworker and the coworker sued everyone.
Also, if the nozzle is plugged, it won't eject the obstacle at high speed into the guys face or eye who is trying to figure out why no air is coming out.
I wondered the same thing 40 years ago. I cherish the 2 old ones I have without the holes.
About the air gun that is for moisture to escape and it could also suck a little dry air in through that as well it doesn't really affect your air pressure
Great video. For the spring try using zip ties compress it a little then cut it when is place it should pop in place. This is how I do it
great idea!
Great Job I love the tips and tricks!
That is a OSHA approved air nozzle. I do not care for them as well. Government contract job I used to have we were only allowed to use the OSHA approved ones.
How did you get keep that door from not tipping over on that cart ???
Okay I got to know more about that wheeled cart that you used to take the door off what is that normally used for and where do I find one I do door repairs often and that would be a very handy tool to have
just search for "lift tables" , you'll fine 'em
I just did one of those and had to put on aftermarket garbage. Customer supplied all the parts. He bought the junk bolt on replacements. If you see this never ever try those bolt on. The bolt holes are no where near where the factory welds are so you would have to redrill the holes after you get the old ones off. I just planed on welding from the start. But the problem was junk metal from China. It welded like shit. Got the job done but it was a mess. Buy factory weld on and not the junk ones.
I am glad I saw this! Thanks for the input!

Think ill order these just to have them on hand possibly. I have the sonoma and its pretty much the same thing and that will probably happen to that truck too because they the same.
And that truck is a 1998 I could tell by the front end the grill and the steering wheel has a wide airbag they change the airbag in 99 in 97 had different grill and there you go folks
Do the striker bolts go into weld nuts? I'm thinking of removing and grinding bolt holes to slightly lower mine.
Nice Job sir. Sir my son has a 2001 I’m trying to fix for him while he is off on deployment. I put new seals weatherstripping and new pins on the door but I’m still getting air coming through them. Would you have any suggestions? Thank you
Has his taken a hit anywhere in the front or the drivers side? Try to narrow down where the noise is coming from exactly while you are driving then maybe we could figure out what is going on.
Does that lift truck come with the hinge bushing repair kit?
Great video par excellence!!
Hey is your shop located around or in the state of Wisconsin because I have an S10 that I need repaired to drive so I have a vehicle to get to school and then work afterwards then back home everyday
endurapin is where you need to get your parts. They are steel bushings
Try the spark plugs you want to check engine light cuz I know you have to change your spark plugs
Had a similar issue, and was able to adjust it by giving micro bends at the hinge with an adjustable wrench and a extension bar.
THE HOLE ON YOUR BLOW GUN MAKES IT A TURBO. AIR DOESN'T COME OUT THAT HOLE IT IS SUCKED IN INCREASING THE VOLUME COMING OUT THE WORKING END OF THE GUN.
just use a slide hammer to pull the hinges back 'til the door fits, DUH
would this fix my door hang?
What size drill bit did you use to drill out that hole?
I don't remember anymore, but if you're using a knurled or ribbed bushing choose a bit just slightly smaller (i'm talking a thousands of an inch) than the outside diameter of your bushing.
Why didn't you just replace the henge with a bolt on henge, they do make them
Damaged is a good excuse to not replace the whole henge and fix it right not that I blame you tho because it isn't an easy thing to replace the henge Chevy should of never welded the solid in the first place
I have a nice 97. The drivers door closes if u lift it, the door will close half way. No matter how hard u slam it or lift it the door only closes half way. Can anybody please help?
Is the front edge of the door hitting the inside of the front fender when you try to close it?
@@TheJayhawker no sir it's a 97 xcab. If I lift the door at the handle end a little it will latch but it doesn't close all the way. Passenger side has 2 clicks where this one clicks once, if I explained it so u could understand. I'm sure it needs pins but this issue is at the other end. It only partially closes sir. So when it rains or u drive it, sounds like a wind storm and u get wet
@@wildestcowboy2668 Ok gotcha. On the video @ 20:40 I start playing around with the adjustment of the striker. Compare that to yours, look to see if the material of the striker is completely worn down. Kneel down and look to see how the striker lines up with the notch of the latch when you close the door. Also throw some white lithium grease on the latch or anything you have handy on the ranch; WD-40, bag balm, ya know whatever.
@@TheJayhawker Thanks for responding back and I think now I can get it done. Just out of curiosity what is the white lithium grease for? Are u saying put it on the actual striker? Or the part inside the door sir?
@@wildestcowboy2668 Up in the latch inside the door.
I have a suspicion that hole is in your air gun because of lawyers. It provides an escape for the air if the end of the nozzle gets blocked. Someone was probably doing something ill-advised with an air gun and concentrated high pressure broke the skin or opened up an existing wound. Lawyers got involved, the air gun manufacturer got sued rather than the judge making the guy with the air hole in him responsible for his own actions. And the result is a poorly functioning, but idiot proof, air gun design. Just a cynical guess.
Can ya weld them shut lol ?
You did not measure !! 😢
Just like that u don’t show the spring remove 😡👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
Just like that? @ 17:45 I install the spring and show it move....not sure what you need.
If was him I would have made a plate and a set screw and kept the hinge that you put plates on and adjust the plate to fit so you can adjust the door to close
