Wow! This would be well into the Ashikaga Shogunate period, right? I’m trying to get a piece by piece into the time frame and imagining what life was like.
I am not sure. I know the song origin is from (what I know as) a period called "Sengosa", well before Japan was "unified". Look up "Kuroda Bushi" on Wikipedia for a background of the song story, the main Kuroda clan leaders and Mori Tahei (may be different surname) are depicted.
Is this your klan emblem Scott? How do you go about looking up family emblems? My grand parents are from Okinawa. Does that make a difference? Or should I just Google this question? This video is on hit just like they all are my Brother!
Not my clan (or klan, lol) emblem. It is the family crest (Japanese "mon") of the Kuroda clan, who were in Fukuoka. Many of the Japanese or Okinawan families do not REALLY know if they have a mon, or if the one they have is truly authentic. My family does have a mon that we have researched and accepted as ours. But most Japanese"families" did not even use their family names pre-Meiji era. Many chose their family name after 1852, as they defined their family. I hope this helps... I would like to visit Okinawa someday. From what I gather, it is markedly different from what I know of Japan, and is very unique.
