Really great lore video! I'll be looking forward to future content for sure! Just two minor corrections I'd like to make; Nas'hrah became a new God around 400 years before the new gods we met in Fear and Hunger, and was beheaded by Valtiel when they got to Ma'habre. Preceeding even Nas'hrah was yet another new God, and the one who constructed the grand library you find in the game, Betel. A few characters, specifically Nas'hrah and Valtiel, mention him, but not much is known about him otherwise.

Something I will never get over is about the boss fights against Sylvian and Grogoroth. Two of the hardest bossfights, easily capable of destroying even the most well prepared party and they're not even the real deal. They're fragments left behind by their respective gods while interacting with the world. Those fights that can easily kill you if you make just a single mistake, they're just fingerprints, not just that but you don't even really beat them. Grogoroth decides to pop in for a bit just to mess with you and Sylvian's fragment just kinda dips after a while.

@@commentlurker3874 As an ascended diety the God of Fear and Hunger is amongst their strength but it's unlikely she could hold off the particularly strong ones like Gro-goroth let alone all of them at once. She's also a very special case with there being only 2 known ascended gods and only the God of Fear and Hunger is confirmed to be completely native to the mortal realm. But besides that she doesn't even contest the old gods in any way, all she does is inflict humanity with her curse resulting in a time period known as the "Cruel age" during which humanity only survived through rapid technological expansion resulting in the industrial age; Nilvan's plan to overthrow the old gods was a failure due to this and this failure is evident in Fear and Hunger 2 which takes place during the festival of Termina a festival hosted by Rher, an old god.
Regardless of that however overthrowing the old gods is a misguided effort, the old gods aren't people who can be stopped in their tracks, they're concepts, They aren't embedded in reality, they *are* reality so to overthrow them means to destroy existance itself. But even then the majority of old gods have stopped caring about mortals anyway. The only old god who still cares about humanity that we know of is Rher and he only cares whether or not mortals are trying to become gods so the main reason all of these things keep happening isn't because the old gods are bad but it's because humanity just can't stop trying to overthrow them.

It definitely makes a big departure from the overused trope of JRPGs having a group of spunky teenagers being able to literally kill deities after griding for a few hours and equipping a shiny sword.
If you came across an actual godly presence in the real world you'd die immediately. The only reason the characters of Fear and Hunger can survive is their ability to use magic and their affinity with other deities.

The best way to sum up the lore of Fear and Hunger is that incomprehensible eldritch gods created humanity, and found us so incomprehensible and terrifying that they used the offer of false godhood to trap humanity into an eternal time loop so that our development would stop before we became so powerful we could overthrow and destroy the old gods.
    Spoiler below:
...And then we escaped the time loop, something the old gods thought would be impossible. The old gods had good reason to fear humanity and flee.

The God of Fear and Hunger is the first man made God, and I find that so interesting. Compared to Logic, they are more eldritch. They are the primordial whip that lashes the cart horse of humanity forward. Gro’goroth and Sylvan and all the other old gods can keep their medieval concepts, yet the concepts that drove us away are what rule our lives. The terror of reverting back to squalid reality. The ravenous need for more and more and more. It drives us to create capitalism and the society that leads to Prehevil and religion in the first place. What pushes humans towards self actualization? Fear and Hunger. The God is just the manifestation of that.

I'm kind of surprised you didn't mention the lizardmen and the Blights. Those are a very interesting part of the lore, because Ma'habre was once ruled by the lizardmen. It's also mentioned that Blights (Lizardmen version of new gods) at their peak were much stronger than the current New Gods. Perhaps the reason why humanity could never ascend higher was because they usurped their way into power, stealing Ma'habre from the lizardmen.

The Old God‘s don‘t care about meddling with their sentient creations anymore for some reason. Anyway the Throne is a curse in disguise, New God‘s efforts are futile. Only the Girl can become strong(?) enough to challenge the Order of the Old Gods, and impose cruelty and suffering on Humanity to force them to produce technology that greatly diminishes Fear and Hunger of the majority of humans, making their lifes more comfortable

The cube of the depths was originally found in Vinland by Ragnavaldr. It was because he had this item that Legarde inavded his village and part of his reason to come to the dungeon is to recover the cube.

I have a theory about the God of the Depths. He is the god of desire and instinct, twisting everybody who is his domain into a twisted mockery of their desires. Guards are r*aping machines because that is their desire, Trotur is an twisted torturer indulging into his fantasies against the Kingdom of Rondon which he served before, cockroach king is an self loathing hater of progress and selffulfilment, the butterfly want to fly for it is his desire. Crow mauler wants to punish the darkness at any cost becoming a parody of him self. Al of the PCs are just enacting their desires, love, revenge, greed and thirst for knowledge. God of the Depths is the driving force of humanity in the time of F&H1, and people of this time are generally selfish animals. The Meiden of the depths has sacrificed herself as an testament of her desire and instinct to love. During Terming the driving force of humanity is the God of F&H driving people to unprecedented progress by making people aware of the fear and hunger molesting humanity making them more empathetic and making them use technology to solve hunger and avoid fear, which comes to an end by the World war where the progress of humanity becomes a twisted parody of its self, causing an end of an era a ascending Logic as anew driving force of humanity.

The ascended ones are just the new vessels for the Old Gods. You can find evidence of this within some of the text about how Gro-goroth walked with man while wearing their skin. Or even just looking at the sprite change for The Girl's Transformation. It appears like a broken version of the Yellow King, being shed to a much darker god.

It's implied the cycle has been going on for a VERY long time, likely even before the time of Alll-mer, judging from the fact we find ascended lizardfolk, the brights, in the void. I think the old gods may have left this plane much earlier in time than we think. It's just that all the new gods fade into obscurity and are forgotten, just for the next set to replace them and repeat the loop.

I like that the Old Gods fear/despise humanity because their consciousness and therefore individuality makes them impossible to control. I can almost see a parallel with Nature. Out greatest gift, conscience, is what makes us essentialy unable to be a part of the greater (perfect) nature. The Old Gods in this game are painted almost as ''forces of nature'' too. Just a thought.

I don’t like to think of Le’garde as an accended god. After all, he achieved godhood through the trials of mahabre, and while the power of the Golden Throne and the Void certainly grants you godly powers, we know through the New Gods that it doesn’t give one the ability nor the incentive to make a lasting impact on humanity. It’s only by confronting the morbid value of suffering that one is blessed with enlightenment and power to rival the old gods.

That's correct! The only two ascended Gods ( revealed in the first game ) are All-mer and the little girl, as Le'Garde or more specifically the Yellow King, is labeled as a New God. Though his goal was similar to that of All-mer in the sense that he wishes to create a new order of sorts, uniting the world together.

You just try to keep relevant to manking to avoid being forgot. That basically explains the life exsitence of every other new god at the hall, who tried everything to escape the being forgotten, which seems to be an inevitsble destiny to every new god

To me it was more challenging than the Souls series & Elden Ring. To get a S ending, you have to plan everything carefully. Darkness is real. Starvation is real. All resources are precious. Even eating rotten foods is sometimes a necessary evil. There is no "tutorial" that treats you like a 8 year old kid who has played a RPG game for the first time in your life. You actually have to LEARN how to play the game by dying from your every mistake. Even if you have all necessary weapons and armors, you can still be killed by one coin-flip. Yes, the coin-flip. Could you believe there is a RPG that luck is actually a determinant factor? I felt like playing D&D with my old friends all over again. The game is a textbook example of dungeon crawler game. Yeah, the game is relatively unpolished and has a lot of bugs, but it is still a masterpiece. I am sure both FAH1&2 will be played by more gamers in the future. It is THAT good.

In Elder Scrolls, Khajits describe the Daedric princes as “kittens” because it was just in their nature to cause destruction and havoc, and no one really blames them for it. But yeah, Grogoroth and Mehrunes Dagon feel very similar. You could also draw a similarity between dibella and Sylvain. Like I stated before, the only one that seems oddly similar to one another is Grogoroth and Mehrunes Dagon with respect to their inherent desire to cause destruction. This destruction also not plotted for diabolical reasons, but to bring destruction & revolution so that the world may be reborn anew (in Dagon's case -- Grogoroth seems the same, but his lore states that he walks in disguise observing humans and I am 99% sure that a Daedra such as Dagon would not necessarily do as such).

It’s set in what I would describe as “the Witcher universe but everyone is just barely not eaten by the giant monsters” with some splashes of Conan, GoT, and of course it’s own unique world setting. *it’s worth mentioning that “dragons” are dinosaurs alongside a variety of other even more cryptic descriptions of monsters. There is an entire encounter with a water-monster-man-creature which sticks out as setting the world to be well beyond what people there know about*
It feels like you walked down a street of a city, for the entire game. The entire thing is bait for a very interesting series and I hope they get the funding to continue.
