I lived in a small town in northern NY and the volunteer fire department had one like 200 yards from our house. They would sound it to alert the FD to respond I guess. This was in the mid 90s. Would go off probably once a week for like 5 min. Plus weekly tests. The worse though is sometimes it wouldn't shut off and would sound for hours. Sometimes at like 3am. I hated that thing.
