Everyone seems to say judgement isn't a yakuza game, i beat it today, it is absolutely a yakuza game with a few new mechanics, that's not a bad thing I love yakuza but it was a yakuza game
The dev has definitely put in a lot of effort into this game, as they got Kimura Takuya as the protagonist If you don’t know who he is - he’s one of the most iconic, if not THE most popular actor in Japan. To this date the top 5 TV series in Japan if all time (in audience ratings measurements), 4 of them have him as the protagonist
Yeah, I'm so glad I bought this game. Yeah, the technical stuff is pretty clunky, but the gameplay and the story are more important and they hit bulls-eyes. And the English casting was phenomenal. Like it's been like forever since the first Yakuza game that we had a game in this series with an English Dub, of course, with people like Matt Mercer as the villain, Greg Chun as the disgraced protagonist seeking a way to fix his mistake, Crispin Freeman as the best friend, Yuri Lowenthal as the disgraced client that set all this in motion, and of course Cherami Leigh as Mafuyu, who still has somewhat of a thing for Yagami, you know you've got an outstanding English cast. Also, another thing I'm disappointed by and while people may see it as a nitpick, but it's one disappointment I have, No karaoke. Which as I believe the Japanese guy for Yagami is a well known singer, so they had to talk with his record label if they wanted some of his songs to get into the game, and Sega didn't wanna spend any more than they already have with Hamura's first Japanese actor with the legal problems he had surrounding cocaine possession, but whatever, Judgment is a worthy spin-off of the Yakuza franchise and Ryu Ga Gotoku studios hit another home run with this title. I wouldn't mind Judgment being its own mini-franchise either, sort of like the younger brother of the Yakuza franchise.
They've done it again: a game that spans the breadth and depth of human experience. From eliciting laughs from off-kilter cases, to teaching about the details of dementia, to plumbing the sorrow of evildoers getting away with their crimes. This plus the gameplay we all know and love, with new additions like drones and investigation mechanics. There are problems, but they're minor compared to the accomplishments. The writers play fast and loose with proper clinical research conduct, but that may be due to Japan not having an official framework for clinical trials (as I found with some cursory online searching). The fighting seems to have less options with such things as throwables/equippables and environmental takedowns. Tailing missions, enough said. Also, really crushed over no karaoke. It's an absolute injustice that Judgment ~Shinpan~ is not a song to sing in this game.
Hopefully this game does well enough that if RGG does a sequel, they can afford to have Kimura sing a song or two for the game! From what I understand, with him being a managed singer, Sega would have had to negotiate with his record label, which probably would have pushed them well over budget.
@@davidtimmer596 Yeah I remember that. That was a shame, cause I loved Hamura's original design and from what I caught of Taki's performance, it looked like he did a fantastic job with the role. The Hamura we got was still pretty great though.
yeah even though the dub is good, some of the lines are lost in translation abit with the dub. They also change some lines here and there which were a lot worse in the dub. Not sure why they done that. Tbh its the main reason i always stick with the native language with games like this. I feel some of the more serious lines were done a lot better in japanese, but japanese tends to sound really full on when its serious. Still the dub was done well, didn't bother me at all when i watched cohh playthough overall great playthough, great game.
Im REALLY sensitive to bad dubs, and i'd have to say i watched this whole playthrough without cringing. Loss in translations will always be there but i can safely say this is one of the best dubbed games in the world.
Thanks! I'd liked your playthrough on youtube so much, I ended up getting the game. Since I can't get twitch to work properly at my bandwidth, I can't really watch there. So! The best I can do to give back right now... Japanese names are interesting to translate. I had to look up a couple, because Kuroiwa kept sticking with me. Literally, Blackstone. First name just comes across as "To be full". Now the fun bit, Japanese love puns. If you change the spacing of the syllables, kuroi wa mitsuru, informally... comes across as "I am full of darkness". Takayuki Yagame doesn't pun nearly so well, but the kanji translation... he's practically Luckgod McGoodhealth... which is a bit... Dirk Daring as names go. I'm not finding any other really stand-out names, but I'm also really bad at Japanese. But "kuro" is black, and puns are awesome. =D
am i crazy? i can only read Judge Eyes on that poster on the left, not judgment. is it called something different in japan or was another name planned before they settled on judgment or is something wrong with my eyes?? ontopic: i hope they bring it to pc. will definitely check it out then.
sadly from what i heard Judgment on PC will probably not happen but as fan of Yakuza franchise i want to play this so i will give it shot on Stadia ... wish me luck 🤣
Only played the asian version,can't comment on the eng dub but if you a fan of kimura,please play this in jp dub.Yeah story was awesome,gameplay great,too bad there lack of something big such as cabaret club management in Y0.The drone racing was interesting,VR was better than i expected too but the rest of the minigames were like,ok it just yakuza,nothing new.

I just watch his playthrough with english dub and play for myself in the original dub to experience both versions
I hope of there’s a judgment 2 we can go back to Tak’s hometown and find out if there’s more to his parents death and the clients disappearance.

The only bad thing about this game is the tailing mission. It became so tedious
