I cried watching this because I have such bad anxiety. And I need to get oral surgery. I’m so anxious and I almost passed out. I know it sounds stupid but people that get me know the feeling :(
I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday and it was so much faster and easier than I thought lol. Thank you so much for what you do too. I appreciate your work so much
Hi, trypanophobic here. I can't even imagine getting an IV as a child...I am a 22 year old with a crippling fear; I haven't ever gotten blood work or an IV for surgery. I just cannot do it, but, you are very comforting. I feel like I would trust you which is huge for me. Thank you doctor
Really one of my favourite youtubers! I love that you also film in the hospital and you explain it in a way we understand! 😍 I’m preparing for nursing school and love to watch you channel! Love your personality! 🥰
Not a doctor, not planning on being one but oddly find this channel great from a perspective as a potential patient. It’s also interesting learning things completely out of my wheelhouse.
You´re a inspiration dra Rabah, I´m studying to be a oral surgeon as you but Here in Brazil, I know that has a lot to study, everything That you say I pay attention ! Really greatfull !
Its Wonderful to share your genuine and sincere experience with others who share you the same passion in OMFS like me , all of gratitude and appreciation for you Doctor 👩🏻⚕️ 🖤
I am not a doctor or even in the medical field but this is so interesting! I love knowing how things actually work. When I had my wisdom teeth out I just assumed I was under general anesthesia but I was on iv sedation. Makes me wonder if I talked to my doc 😂
@@antoniod I was around 20 I believe. I was very nervous but it was over super quick. I was in a little pain afterwords but overall it was not a bad experience.
every time i watch your videos or vids of other medical professionals i wonder how you can touch stuff in the or, especially instruments, without gloves yet not making them not usable for the ops since they are not sterile anymore if you touch them. i don’t want to sound accusing, i really love this kind of videos, i just genuinely wonder about it. if i may also say, this video helped me a lot to calm my anxiety for procedures i need to do, and to understand how things work. i do believe that knowledge is what we need when we are in fear but sadly this kind of content is not even close to be as present as it needs to be. i asked my doctors and looked for more info elsewhere but what i have been told/found, even if technically could have been the same as what you showed, was not nearly as detailed or well explained to the general public as it was in your case. so thank you a lot!
Hopefully you will get to training by Dr. Rodriguez, who was fantastic ( especially with my family history of MH) on my emergency surgery last year. Calm, professional and most of all reassuring that the MH would not be a problem. Good Luck
I had no idea that during IV sedation youre still technically awake. I thought when I got my wisdom teeth out that I was completely asleep cuz I didn't remember anything
Wow... it blows my mind that anyone would be more nervous about minor teeth procedures (like wisdom teeth removal) than they would be about being put under.... the risk of wisdom teeth removal is like... bleeding and slight discomfort. The risk of any type of anesthesia is death... who would ever sign a form who truly understands the risks? Anesthesia should be kept for only when 100% necessary.
Fatalities under IV sedation are far rarer than under anesthesia for major surgery. Your body is still functioning on it's own, unlike with bigger surgery.
have surgery coming up soon i dont even wanna see the dentist pulling my wisdom teeth out dont wanna see nothing i have a fear about being able to see and anxiety this video just help me deside what i wanna do i see the anesthesia doctor soon
I currently have braces, around the 16-18 mark I will be getting orthognathic surgery. I have been told the healing process can be tough, roughly 3-4 months for swelling to wear off . Any advice?
Fifth reminder: what is the difference between 4-year and 6-year trained OMFS post board certification scope of practice? Why spend time and $ in taking the MD component of the OMFS?
Anaesthetists are non-sterile. The only people who are sterile in an operatory are the physician doing the dental work (DDS or DMD) and the assistant(s) or scrub tech(s). The circulating RN is also non-sterile.
I reamber them strapping me to the bed and that was very traumatic for me and having a panic attacks and then him putting in the needle to calm me down then him telling the assistant to give me Benadryl and that's all.
I felt the same way! I can honestly say that my wisdom teeth extraction with conscious iv sedation was the BEST procedure experience I’ve ever had. My oral surgeon put me on Nitrous Oxide gas before he inserted the needle so I was calm and relaxed - I didn’t even feel it! Remember that your oral surgeon is a trained professional that does this daily! Your only job is to show up and trust that they’ll take great care of you :) good luck, I know you’ll be great!
I could listen to Dr Rola All Day!!!
Thank you !!!

Can you describe your experience?
you have no idea how much this motivates me to study I'm still in high school
I work for 4 Oral & Maxillofacial surgeons in Florida and I love it! So happy I found a vlog channel with an oral surgeon!
I love how you know so much and can fluently describe your job
Thanks for such a kind comment Elianis!
Please don’t stop making these videos... I’m so inspired and I’m going to college for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and these really help.
I feel that watching this could make me a less anxious patient. Seeing the prep is reassuring, for some reason.
That’s one of the benefits of these kinds of channels, not just inspiration for us in the medical field, but education for all!!
You're truly an inspiration! :)
Thank you! ❤️
I’m a surgical tech student and this video was still very helpful! Thank you for your time!

Samantha, I am an extremely anxious patient and not a fan of needles. My first thought is that I think I would be ok having her as a doctor.
thank you for all the details, seeing the whole process was very educational, also loved the explanation of all the drugs.

What is the importance of oral surgery?
I mean that is this surgery for curing any oral diseases or for changing facial structure
Wonderful information - Great video. Thanks so much Dr. Rola!
SO INFORMATIVE! Thank you for taking us through each of the medications :)

Maybe you did have full sedation as opposed to the conscious kind! Full sedation is common for wisdom teeth.

What made you get into anaesthesia? :) I hope you have a great-long-day!
Dr. Rabah is an OMFS resident and part of her training is receiving training in anesthesia since she’s the anesthesia provider.
Thank you Donzell! You are absolutely correct.
Okay good to know but I was actually wondering what made you get into that specific field?
nursing student here from philippines❤️❤️
Do you use a device like a papoose wrap to keep patients warm and reduce hypothermia during sedation?
During your anesthesia rotation are you also doing classes in the hospital that require general anesthesia?
My most recent Iv sedation was for a colonoscopy makes you more comfortable and relaxed.
I felt pretty good after.
did u just fall asleep quick or were you aware?
I am someone with dentist phobia do you use IV sedation only for tooth pulling?

Hey Yoh.... Miss Doctor is it really worth to work for 12hrs a day..... Kinda worried about your salary and perks.....
During an emergency do you have to break the sterile field to open these bins/cases? or are the anesthesiologists not sterile?

quick question! is there a meaning behind 15blades?
It's one of Parker blades , blade no.15 used in dentistry in wide range
For intra-oral incisions (incisions inside the mouth) .
I reamber them strapping me to the bed and that was very traumatic for me and having a panic attacks and then him putting in the needle to calm me down then him telling the assistant to give me Benadryl and that's all.
Why/how did they strap you down?
So then why my dentist told me they will use general anesthesia to remove my impacted wisdom teeth? im terrified
He might not have been speaking technically, he should have just said anesthesia.
@@KaylaCorrine17 she said general anesthesia that I would be put to sleep.
Don't you give Glycopyrolate when you use ketamine ?? usually we here in our region give Glycopyrolate when we use ketamine

Can only oral surgeons take out wisdom teeth?
General Dentists are able to in some cases, but a lot of cases are referred to specialists such as Dr. Rola
