wtf are you on about? the small size is good because it means you can easily park it in town. the car is the same speed as other cars in its class. the car is not jerky. annoying? how the hell can a car be annoying? it's definitely the car you'd choose if you wanted a fun supermini which was unique (unlike ford fiesta) and reliable.
They use Imperial gallons in the UK, which are larger than American gallons. So the 68.9 Imperial MPG for the diesel version is equal to 57.3 American MPG, and the 49.6 Imperial MPG for the gas version is equal to 41.3 American MPG.
i had to admit that driving one of these are magnificant! although the car is automatic is automatic but the handling is superb! you kinda feel connected to the car just because of the excellent handling, but i bet you'll 100% connected to the car when it's a stick shift!
Last year I test drove a Mazda 2, 1.5 litre, auto gearbox (so was the 2012 model). I loved its comfort, on a par with Renault I would say, it was a very good looking car, impressive colour options, and so so much poke. Downside was that 'poke' as I could not get the hang of pulling away smoothly, in fact my wife kept asking why I was sprinting off, and I told her I could help it. A tiny car for a 1.5 sized engine and the only thing not size so I got a VW Polo instead. Mazda 2, rated 8.5/10.
I've had Mazda 2 1.3 as a courtesy car from the dealership for a day a couple years ago. It was great! 1.3 it lively, easily powerful enough for UK, good on the motorway and has no problem getting to UK limit of 70mph (or a little above it) in a timely fashion. I was also surprised how quiet it was on the motorway. Road noise present, granted, but you expect that in a car this size and class. Hardly any engine noise though. She must be reviewing another car called Mazda 2 I guess.
This is my current car and I love her. It's good if your shorter and a solo driver but sitting in that car as a passenger can be a little uncomfortable
I have this car; and its a really nice car to drive in asphalt and dirt roads. I put it a console; with gps navigation, bluetooth, ipod and all the gadgets that you need. Back seat space its ok for people below 1.88 meters; and fuel consumption 40-45 km/g. Great car for the money in Colombia.
i own the little mazda. steering, gearbox, feel through the pedals etc...all that driver orientated stuff is really a joy, there are premium cars costing 4 times as much and cant to better. but there are drawbacks. its loud at higher speeds, and theres a constant jiggle in the car even on good roads, it never settles down due to the hard suspension setup. not really relaxing on longer trips but a joy to shoo around country roads
I have virtually the same 2013 model and have to say i find the drivers seat far superior to many other seats however i do find it unsettling in windy winter conditions as it is inclined to be moved a little bit too much by the wind which may be the result of it being lighter by 300lbs than say it`s rival the Fiesta which appears to have the identical floor pan.
Seriously mate, chill out. I meant no offense & when it comes to personal height measurement, they don't use centimetres - they use the Imperial system ,rather than a fully-fledged Metric system.
Brits and Americans use units that humans can relate to. A foot is the size of an average adult man's foot and an inch is about the width of your thumb. That allows for estimates of length to be easily made without needing a ruler or tape measure. We do use metric units for science and international commerce, but we use U.S./Imperial units in everyday life because they are easier to relate to.
I own this car and I am satisfied . Not extraordinary but correct by all means : good finish , engine rather quiet , very good gearbox . Some defaults : flimsy trunk button ( mine broke and replaced ) , fuel consumption not that economical . Driving sensation is pleasant .
It is possible to get good fuel economy in this car (I get over 50mpg (UK gallons) regularly), but I'll admit it is a difficult car to achieve this in with lots of careful driving required. I've had ours over 2 years now and, truth be told, can't wait to get rid of it. It's not a bad car per se, in fact its one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned, but it is very unrefined and noisy at speed. We also have a Ford Fiesta of the same year - it is a much much better car in every respect.
orion1983uk We manage to get 6,1l / 100km. Don't know whats that in mpg, but its good enough for an engine that was designed already seven years ago. And no, I'm not driving slowly. You just have to know how to accelerate right (not slow, but rather fast with fast gearchanges so you reach your cruisingspeed faster and have less time with high refs) and of course watching the other cars around so you often can use your engine to break and won't even need any fuel at all on these parts of the journey. The new Mazda 2 shows what mazda can do right now to lower the fuel consumption without missing that zoomzoom. And I think they do it really well compared to other companies.
I regularly average 50mpg (5.6l/100km) in the winter in mine. Upto 5.2l/100km (with some air con) in summer. This is achieved with mixed driving conditions. And to be fair, this is not bad considering Mazda claim around 5.1l/100km for my model. Believe me, I know how to drive economically. However these figures are not easy to achieve in the Mazda2. The equivalent Fiesta will achieve the same anyway (proven by myself under the same conditions). The gear ratio's on the 1.3 litre engine are way way too high and do everything they can to remove that zoomzoom factor.
Mr. Pink P.S. I do know what you're getting at though in terms of driving correctly. I read regularly of people who complain that they only achieve 6.5-7l/100km and claim they don't drive fast, and you just know they are talking rubbish bout their driving claims and are probably ramming their brakes on at the last second before every red light, and then flooring it to pull away again.
Maybe to those who subscribe to this channel and watch every video, but I get the feeling the majority of views CarBuyer get here are from one-off viewers, watching a quick review of a car they're thinking of buying, then moving on.
As someone who owns both a Mazda2 and a Fiesta (2010 models, which are effectively just pre-face lift versions), I'd say the Fiesta... every single time!
orion1983uk We only drove the older fiesta back in 2009 and decided that the Mazda 2 is better for us. But it also depends on your age. We were mid-twenty back then and the harsher ride wasn't that big problem for us. My mother on the other side said that it hurts her back after a long journey. So there is no "better" for all. Just stop asking others about their opinion and try it for yourself. ;)
Mr. Pink Well the old shape Fiesta, which was developed for 2002, is hardly a fair comparison is it. I was also in my twenties when we bought them. And, as I own both, I have tried (and still try) both for myself. The Fiesta is more comfortable, much much more refined and rides better (but yet handles equally good). The Fiesta also has a better sound system compared with the comparatively basic (no RDS on a car made in 2010!!!) one in the Mazda2.
Jun Chn I thought the same... But I liked that she mentioned the "impressive safety credentials" which a lot of reviewers don't. These are credentials that are neither available to competitors in this segment or they can cost a lot more as they are available on the higher trims.
Yes, you can. But not to adopt the metric system is to refuse progress. Take as example your physics classes. The International System of units is used in physics because it's so simple to convert. And if you don't know almost the entire world has already adopted the metric system, but for some reason the English speaking countries refuse to adopt it.
Which is still a lot more than most american cars claim to have, even some similar models. I've read that the european mileage ratings are much further from reality than the american ones because of the methods of testing. But I believe a big part of the diference is because of the so common use of Automatic Transmissions in the USA, which waste some power with the Torque Converter.
Mini-me must have been the camera operator! I must admit, I've never carried a banana in the passenger compartment, only the trunk after grocery shopping.
yes it's reliable iv own a 2013 Mazda 2 and iv driven it from England to portugal and portugal to England 4 times and I have no problems best car iv had in my life for reliability, I'm looking to buy this one soon.

Yes, I have one. I'm 6 foot 2. Buy the venture editor. Comes with sat nav, heated mirrors etc, air con, auto windscreen wipers mp3, Bluetooth. Tinted windows, body kit.
Once you become used to the metric system you can do the same. I have a lot of dificulty translating feet into meters, even though I know it's 30,48cm=1ft, it's just very unnatural to me, as I have used the metric system since my early childhood.

My sister has one, base model with air con, its nice enough but the boot is silly, the wheels have to come off the pushchair to get it in, whereas it fits fine in our other smallest car, an old 206...very noisy, expensive to service at the dealer, and already having clutch issues at 25k miles (other cars in the family are at plus 130k miles, French, and with no issues at all...) its an old model now though and well worth a punt on the used market, dont buy a new one though, very soon to be replaced.
Well, and we have a Mazda 2 for 6 years now, with 110.000km driven and not one single problem so far. Also in the Dekra/TÜV report its one of the most reliable small cars out there...
Mr. Pink I drive in a cool way ( no gross accelerations no sharp brakings either ) still the consumption is not very moderate ( 7 L / 100 km ). That's perhaps the main default . Otherwise the mazda 2 is very good , my car is a 2007 model and has no mechanical issue or repair up to now , just an oil change every year . I don' t agree with orion983 and VDPEFI , ok the mazda 2 engine is not as quiet as an audi , but it is not that noisy .
As I said in another comment, we manage to drive the Mazda 2 with 6,1l/100km. And that's in south germany with lots of hills and small mountains as well as once per year with a caravan for holiday. Everybody always says that they are driving not fast, but not fast is not the same as economic driving. I drive somewhat fast compared to most other drivers and still manage to get good values. But for that you need a training and you have watch the traffic in detail to see when to get off the gas, where to accelerate fast to reach you cruising speed asap, etc. ... So no, the (old) Mazda 2 isn't as cheap to run as many modern rivals, but 7 years ago it was on the same level as the rest of the super minis...
I don't see what's so new about the Mazda 2, new bumper, new headlights and new wheels? And the review is a bit pathetic, 1:38 "4 wheel ABS" ? and the seats dont go completly flat...ignoring the reviews where the seats don't go completly flat and still praise them for being completly flat...

How good is the mazda 2 on fuel? (From owners reviews)
Like all cars doesn't get anywhere near the manufacturers claimed mpg
If you say you're 6 foot 2 I have to actually convert it into meters to get an idea. I can't really think of 6 feet plus 2 thumbs.
1:09 Yeah "banana"
Lol y this funny for me

did they move the driver's seat frontward to make it look more spacious?? coz the two seats look not parallel.
so apparently 4 wheel ABS is impressive in 2013, what about FM/AM stereo audio or cup holders?
Like the look of this much more than the focus
I heard the fully Skyactiv Mazda 2 have insane fuel efficiency. is it true?
The Mazda2 is a fantastic little car.
She is so happy, like she built the car...
i prefer this than the newest model

yup agree, even my father complained about the fuel consumption, but overall, for the price tag, the car is worth it because of the superb handling.

Why cant we have small basic cars like this in the USA.
she ate it, that's what normal people do with bananas...
A fucking banana?? LMAO. Leave it to the Brits to put a little Monty Python or Mr. Bean into everything.
Wish we got those projector headlights in the US.
Actually, I think these are really good looking. But I do like the Suzuki swift better.
What do you mean the seats don't fold flat? you just folded them down? serious Q.
one answer will be sufficient louis.
When you fold the seats down there is a ridge so when you push big or heavy things back it will hit the seats and you'll have to lift it uo
Where is Mat?
could decal mine with white wrap along the bottom leave the black as paint the ying/yang treatment.
