My friend Eddie Chestlock spent a lot of time with Blackjack right before he passed away. Blackjack gave him the entire outfit as a kind of " thank you" for being there for him in his last days.
That video of Mulligan he posted and he took off his shoes and showed his ankles ..... let's just say that it pushes me while I'm in the gym . Dude must have been in serious Pain .
@@2laughandlaugh so sad , I mean a sad ending for one of the most talented Big Men ever . People you cannot be Large Built and live a Sedimentary Lifestyle as you get into your 40's and beyond . It will Kill you and it will happen slowly and painful. Exercise and stay active . Much love to all
Great podcast, great commentary , great real stories I can hear all day ......love the on the road stories, I remember blackjack mulligan when he came to wrestle in Toronto..saw him getting out of the limo at the back of the stadium ......I was in shock of his size ....huge man from Texas, i think he was wrestling in a indian strap match, one of the best like Flair......wrestling today isn't a spectacle as it once was with the giant men and great matches, that's what I miss and the different types of matches they had, steel cage, strap match, dog collar match, salt miners glove match, chain match ......it made the match even if the same two guys were fighting become different and draw more money .......never a dull moment in wrestling in those days of the late 70s , 80s and early 90s.
The hat -robe angle will go down as one of the best in wrestling history. Mark please bring up it to Ric and let us get to hear the how the angle came about. Great angle. I can remember it just like it was yesterday. That angle started the $10,000 bounty Blackjack had on his head by RIC.
Blackjack Mulligan and Blackjack Lanza l never saw them only in magazines and video footage, but have a reputation of being one of the best tag teams in 1972 until 1975 in the old WWWF and AWA. Would of been great seeing them against Nick Bockwinkel and Ray Stevens and also against Dick the Bruiser and The Crusher. They split when Mulligan went to the Crockett promotion.
nothing like reliving mid atlantic wrestling. i first watched the Blackjacks in WWWF and loved them both ever since. wrestling in the mid atlantic was incredible compared to what we have today...Ric Flair, greatest of all time. RIP Blackjack.
Yep, I remember both Lanza and Mulligan wrestling as singles and then as a tag team in the WWWF prior to Mulligan coming into Mid Atlantic. I grew in the Washington DC area but my family on both sides are from southwest Va and NC. Remember watching Mulligan from Roanoke, Winston Salem, and Charlotte. Always hoped that Lanza would join him in Mud Atlantic but I don't think it ever happened. Great times.
I miss Blackjack to this Day ! He was a "GOOD Bad Guy" in the Carolinas area. I remember the nite that Mr. Wrestling (Tim Woods) was talking to the legendary Charlie Harville about how he HAD to beat Mulligan on Saturday nite at the Greensboro Coliseum, " for the Kids who needed to see Good defeat Evil". The moment he left, Blackjack appeared on the mic (great as usual !). When Charlie asked him what was his response, BJM said " I DIDN'T REALIZE HE WANTED TO GIT' BEAT SO BADDDD ! I'MON GIVE HIM THE RASLIN' LESSON OF HIS LIFE !!" Vintage Blackjack !!! HAAAA
I was a kid in the early 80s..we were huge wrestling fans in New york and mulligan was already a legend by then. we thought he was a legend from the prehistoric 70s...even though it was like only 82
Blackjack was great I love him. When Barry came out he was a scrawny little wimp, I couldn't stand him. Especially when he started beating everyone up. But once he became a Horseman I think that Barry went through the roof with his skills. I love all the horsemen but that was my favorite group. Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, and Barry Windham, The Four Horsemen baby WOoooo
My very first favorite wrestler. The man who brought me in….Blackjack Mulligan! Ironically many decades later, it was his grandson Windham Rotunda that brought my son into Pro Wrestling.
For a short period Mulligan & Lanza were unofficially known as the 'White Jacks' and wore white hats and everything white when they turned baby face in the old AWA ~ I remember how shocked i was as a kid seeing them dressed like that
If I remember right his real name is Bob Wyndum or something like that and he started out in the AWA as a referee and later started wrestling and teaming up with Jack Lanza.

KENDALL beat Dustin Rhodes for Florida title and held tag belts with Robert Fuller aka Colonel Robert Parker in WCW...l would of thought he held tag belts with Barry.
I didn't realise Kendall and Barry held the WCW Belts for 3 weeks beating and losing the titles to Harlem Heat Booker T and Stevie Ray...also held them in a minor promotion run by Ted Dibiase
In Florida Wrestling, the camera caught him on TV cutting himself silly on the forehead to bleed. BLM was a tough SOB & saw him wrestle in a HS gym in Miami vs Kevin Sullivan :) WHERE DO I GET ONE of Those Flair TSHIRTS????? Jeff

I worked Black Jack in independent wrestling. He tossed me around so easily but was extremely light. He was such a wonderful person. RIP Mulligan!
