There’s a Muppet vibe to this. Mose resembles Crazy Harry, always blowing things up. Henson collected novelty songs like this and used them on SAM & FRIENDS and his later series. Always admired the work of the Chiodo Bros.
I first saw this short at least 15-20 years ago, on a show they had on Sci-Fi Channel (back when it was spelled right) They would show short subjects and this is like the only one I remember because it had that Muppety / Haunted Mansion vibe. Love it!!
I don't think that's a coincidence, because I think this studio contributed a lot of puppet work to that cartoon. It wouldn't be impossible that one of the talents behind this studio project either transferred to Cartoon Network, or would know someone there and influenced them a bit.
It is, the Fleischers did a great Mysterious Mose in 1930 starring proto Betty Boop and Bimbo. An eerie little masterpiece. It's on YT as Talkartoon No 14 Mysterious Mose.
To be honest this little shorty was really cute! I like how it looks like a muppet character! But also it got me into suspicion cause it looks like 2019 youtube cartoon! I was fooled and it was amazing! Mysterious mose got me! And now i wanna watch it again! Thanks for showing this! Its already October the first and this video got me into the halloween spirit
I've just recently discovered this original song. I've always known the tune from the Porky Pig cartoon "Wholly Smoke". This has very strong Spike Jones vibes, especially with Mose driving his jalopy up and down the hills. I'm also seeing some influence from Jack Benny's Maxwell (as "voiced" by Mel Blanc) in that part.
wow, this was a very enjoyable watch. It had that old-style campy music and it incorporated a really nice mix of animation/puppets. Of course I especially enjoyed the stop-mo part of it, but the puppets were really well done too!
Hi! Mysterious Mose was part of Spike & Mike at the end of it's film festival run. The film's debut was at the Slamdance Film Festival way back in 1999. 😁👍🏽
Absolutely Brilliant. Wish they'd make more of these. This is just great....the style and humor and everything about it is wonderful. Great job all round!
man I just looked up these guys on Wikipedia, no wonder their artstyle looked familiar, they went on to help make MAD, Chowder, Misadventures of Flapjack, and the corn pop and fruity pebble commercials!
@@ericweatherby9628 Actually it's pop music from the 30's which was used in cartoons of the thirties just like pop music from the 40's was used in 40's cartoons and on and on.
@stitch1993 Thanks a bunch! We didn't do the Fruity Pebbles commercials that you see now a days. The Flintstones piece we did create was for Cartoon Network a few years back.
Mysterious Mose rides again! THAT is what they mean when they say visual feast. Be sure to watch full screen with the lights out! because those radiant colors just leap out at you. And the 3D only adds to the effect. Excellent puppetry.
@stitch1993 .. We have some pretty fun stuff lined up for next year. Can't say much now but we hope it will live up to your expectations. Here's a link to our FB page... facebook.com/pages/Screen-Novelties/107389642624606
@turbannedruffian ok. btw, what is ur FB page all i can find is one that all it has is info from wikipedia on it and are you guys planning on anymore awesome tv shows like chowder and flapjack or are u jus focusing on MAD for right now?
This should be a widely known and heavily watched Halloween classic, but it isn't. Everyone needs to see this.
It is for me
I came here to say this!

Mysterious Mose kind of looks like an undead version of Captain K'Nuckles from The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.
Am I the only one who's noticed this?
oh, okay.
Oh i love that show

The song is from 1930, but the video itself was made in 1998.
A Halloween essential! I watch this about a dozen times a week in October. I love the song by itself but this video is just perfect manic fun.
Mysterious Mose is the greatest man who ever lived.

Absolutely charming! The rhythm of the "actors" to the music is perfect!

it's like Henson + the 30's/40's
love it

Now THIS is a REAL live-action cartoon. Man this rocks. And it also feels very muppety.

One of my go to Halloween faves!
Fun fact this was first shown in a festival called spike and Mike festival of animation

One of the best videos I've ever seen. Genius.....make more...PLEASE....
This was done in 1997-1998. Unfortunately, unlikely to be more.
This clearly captures the spirit of the 30's
Genius pure and simple genius! Bravo!
This is some seriously quality stuff! Spooked the skeleton outta me, but I keep coming back for more!
I really love this.
That was freaking awesome! Thanks for posting this.
how does this not have more views?! its amazing!!
Tremendous and spectacular!
I wish this song got more recognition
This music is wonderful! It sounds just like the cartoon music from the 1930s.
It IS cartoon music from the 1930s. Betty Boop did it first. :)
@@ericweatherby9628 Actually it's pop music from the 30's which was used in cartoons of the thirties just like pop music from the 40's was used in 40's cartoons and on and on.
This is fantastic. Excellent music and puppet work. I especially love the color scheme.
This is amazing!
This is too awesome.
This is great
@stitch1993 Thanks a bunch! We didn't do the Fruity Pebbles commercials that you see now a days. The Flintstones piece we did create was for Cartoon Network a few years back.
This is the second best thing made by man. The first was soap.
"He sees all, he knows all" sounds like Santa Claus to me.
I heard this was shot in one night
Is it possible to get this in high quality? I'm blown away by it.
I only know that this exists as extra feature in a Hellboy dvd.
+James Harvey a little better vimeo.com/13725470
love this short so much, saw it on a mike and spike dvd
I like let me explain studio's version of this song
inspirational!!!
Love this song
Super awesome. Excelent job guys. Really fun style. Best of luck with Monster Safari!
this is really really good
Mysterious Mose rides again!

AWESOME
Screen Novelties does all the real life animation for Flapjack and Chowder
That's really cool!!!😊lots of fun! !!😱
Ooooooooo!!!!!! I never saw this before! So cool!
It sounds older, but that could be the audio that makes it feel older than 1998.
The recording is from 1930, by Harry Reser and his Orchestra.
He's rockin' that tricorne hat.
Also check out TALKARTOON No 14 from 1930 by the Fleischers. It's the same song and stars proto Betty Boop and Bimbo. It's very eerie and sexy.
Absolutely amazing!
A real soooktacular special.
This. Is. Amazing!
Hi! sorry for bothering do you have Saved By The Bell after effects template? I found your comment under the video on youtube
Looks a little like Jim Henson's work. Very Muppety.
I was kinda thinking that too
@felixjazzage...thanks! If you'd like to see more of our stuff, check out our Screen Novelties page on fb.
Criminally low view count right here.

OMG CREEPIENESs
Hi

Que crack forte🙃
Anyone know who sings this version of "Mysterious Mose"?
Sounds like Dick Robertson. Robertson recorded this as Bob Dickson on the Hit-of-the-Week label (#1061).
O_O
D=
WTF
Loved it! entirely too good for television
