If anyone was wondering, the "living like a porcupine" is probably referring to the porcupine dilemma. The porcupine dilemma, also known as the hedgehog dilemma, is a metaphor used in psychology to describe the challenges of human intimacy. If a hedgehog is cold, it cannot huddle for warmth with another without hurting them and being hurt. It's seen as describing that while most relationships are started with good intentions, both parties are often hurt. Seeing as Marina has sung about how bad her relationships have been and the horribly magnetic nature they seek to have for her, I wouldn't put this past her. She's got some pretty cheeky lyrics!
Electra heart has some amazing writing too, but i agree i want marina to sound more personal and specific not simplify her songs into a "relatable" topic

I heard that it was between Electra Heart and the Froot Era but couldn't make it into the Froot album. And It was late to put it into Electra Heart so it was left out.
when i was a preteen id listen to her music and talk to any and every man i could and be this little cute soft grunge whore and then when i finally got a boyfriend my own age who played sports and liked me he kept threatening me out of his passion for me and obsession, and id listen to this song thinking about how i couldnt even eat a subway sandwich because I was such a disgrace, and then eventually id send this song to him years years later basically yelling at him for that exact porcupine complex i was suffering from, and oh how he was disinterested and terribly bored to my face. now im on the other end listening again, i think that love is a very special frequency we pull in from concept to experience, like fame or money. My biggest advice for all the beauty queens out there is to just smile the pain away, keep talking, to anyone and everyone, just because of one bad experience, always understanding that since everything is infinite in its abundance, that there will always be something more, bigger, and greater than what we are chasing, and the moment we have it, we may notice our feelings arent as grand as we thought, its okay. picture like one bad boyfriend, put it in a box, all the objects that come up when you think about it that may symnolize what you experienced, and then when you close the box and walk away, eventually notice how many other boxes there are out there, and how muhc you dserbe to b happi :)
Marina is the best artist hands down idc what anyone fucking says. Forget love and fear she is so damn talented at singing and songwriting these are probably some of her best lyrics. They are thought provoking and the concept is unique the production is amazing too. I wish she made music like this
I think the porcupine thing is about being a coward, personally? Like, take porcupines, with the symbolism around them being antisocial, capable of curling up into a ball and keeping everyone away with their spikes, plus the first line about "losing her spine", which also ties back to being a coward, or rather, spineless. All in all, I believe the whole song is her reprimanding herself for breaking up with someone due to this cowardice, and attributing it to sin.
