    I was looking into hydro boost for my build, and vaguely remember seeing discussion about swapping reservoirs on GM power steering pumps, using a two port reservoir from a hydro boost application on whatever pump you wanted to use.
    I also saw a few that drilled the reservoir directly, but down below the fluid level so that it might not aerate fluid returning to the reservoir.

      The right way to do it would be to get the correct pump. I’m bot too worried about putting air in the system with this return. It just spits out a little with every brake press. You would have to hit the brakes off and on real fast a bunch of times like abs haha.

    Hey I was wondering if you could help, I was looking for your instructions video of how to hook up the fuel gauge with the wiring harness that clips in the back of the Holley 7 inch, I had it saved before a while ago but now cannot find it

    • @Burndown

      I deleted that video a while ago. You need an IO harness and it’s pin 10 I believe that can take the free signal. Tic performance sells harnesses

    Hmm. That ls pump is probably a different pressure Or volume than the hydroboost was intended for ... but I’m wondering on the return side if the low line fitting out from the hydroboost was replaced or drilled out. That seems like a lot of volume coming out and the peddle seems to travel too far now. The fitting coming out of the hydroboost has a calibrated orifice. The factory teed the line in on my big truck and I have a perfectly firm 1 inch of brake travel . You never even notice the brakes. I’ve observed that return line on mine and it barely pisses out when I apply the brakes. Yours just seems to puke fluid in comparison. Maybe I’m on to something, maybe I’m not. But I’ve always teed mine from the side of the tee directly after the steering box low pressure return fitting and have had no issues.
    The tee fitting is a 3/8 dedicated tee and not a tee block with three barbed fittings and thread sealant . I don’t recommend any kind of thread sealant anywhere near this system.
    I also use a cooler after the tee fitting and a filter right before the tank return fitting .
    I’m installing one right now on a 68 Ss 396 Chevelle with a 12.7 ratio box and ls brake swap.
    Using the new, stock twenty five dollar 80’s GNX lines that aid in cooling. Gen 3 Corvette 1 1/8 bore disc disc master cylinder. Center 05 BMW handbrake with modified stock 98 blazer cables. I’m a few hours away from finishing and I’m sick in the head enough to take a break and watch a hydroboost video.
    Aloha.

    Another idea: We ran ATF in the steering pumps on derby cars for years (for simplicity) & I started doing it on my daily. When it got cold, the steering got difficult. I flushed & replaced with steering fluid & it was good again (image that!). So... what fluid is needed in a hydroboost? What was in the system when you got it?

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 года назад

      I just put power steering fluid in it🤷‍♂️

    • @BigRedRocketScience
      @BigRedRocketScience 2 года назад

      @@Burndown yeah, but I mean was it ever flushed & replaced since you acquired the parts? I had baked fluid cause me problems before on a used car that cured by flushing new fluid. None of these ideas are worth trying if the test-drive proves out your fix, just thinking of things and saying them out loud. Mornin' from Detroit!

      @@BigRedRocketScience yes! Every time I take the line off of the pump it dumps all the fluid on my driveway and I have to re fill it🤣 even when I put a catch pan under it it still seems to hit the driveway.

    thank u!! I will be trying this. I just installed a hydroboost in my camarro with a full flow -6an and when I apply the brakes they go from kinda stopping to full grab and they stay applied after I let off...is this what you were feeling?

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 года назад +1

      Yes this was a big part of the problem. The other part was my fluid was getting too hot so I had to put a cooler on my power steering return line. No problems since.

  • @BigRedRocketScience
    @BigRedRocketScience 2 года назад +1

    I don't have any experience with hydroboost brakes, but if it happens again you could try cracking the cap to releieve the return/reservoir pressure. If that works, maybe a vent is needed? Complete stab in the dark. And not fun opening that dog house when it's hot to possibly spill steering fluid on the exhaust.

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 года назад

      The low side retuning fluid from the power steering box was backing up the line from the hydro boost that I moved in the video.👍

    • @BigRedRocketScience
      @BigRedRocketScience 2 года назад

      @@Burndown I didn't believe fluid backing up made sense, but I'm rooting for you to solve it. I see you got a little more cooler to try now. I see another tru-cool 40k GVW stacked up front in your future! I keep thinking David Tracey (former cooling engineer & Jalopnick writer, now The Autotopian) needs to help revamp the cooling on the twinnebago to help his own channel grow.

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 года назад

      @@BigRedRocketScience So this fixed the brakes locking up. The fluid would build up and the brakes would not disengage. I think the heating problem wasn’t helping this either. I may throw a smaller true cool cooler up front if I get a new radiator with more space and a larger fan to go with it. I’m gonna get this thing figured out😁

      I ran the return through the fill neck. They make a hydroboost pump so if you can just change out to that and it has a provision for it.
