    Does it work on resisting opponents?

      These are being show from a basic kata point of view to demonstrate fundamentals. All of these techniques are found in one incarnation or other in jujutsu and daito ryu and are as effective as the person applying them. Against resistance, and of course, depending upon the specific situation you may need to include atemi or change application angles to break balance, but as principles they are all sound.
