  • I loved this Reflecta Film Scanner and made excellent use of it - it's easy to use and the quality is perfectly acceptable. I scanned all my parents and grandparents cine films and all of my friend's parents films. I bought it then sold it when I'd finished - this is real life not paid product endorsement.

    Here's My thoughts on it: • Reflecta Normal 8 Supe... Reflecta Normal 8 Super 8 Cine Film Scanner Welcome to my channel, I hope you enjoy watching all the kayak fishing around the UK, mostly in the North Sea - in the sea and river, fishing for cod, bass, tope, dogfish, smoothound, thornback ray, whiting, wrasse and anything else I can target There's scuba diving off the North Norfolk Coast and Suffolk, wreck diving, reef diving, river diving, even Cenote Diving, in the Red Sea off Egypt, the Mediterranean off Malta and Gozo and in Mexico, Brazil, Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Pembrokeshire in Wales, Swanage and Plymouth and of course the diving with sharks in South Africa. There's kayaking too, including surfing sailing and touring in the UK and abroad and a bit of snorkelling, Plenty of videos too of me fiddling with and driving my classic car, a 1973 Triumph Spitfire and other cars get a look in too. There's cooking, eating, travelling around various cities in Europe - Berlin in Germany, Naples and Rome in Italy, plus the Vatican; Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv and elsewhere in Bulgaria; Lefkosia / Nicosia and much of Cyprus, Krakow in Poland, there's Malta too. Istanbul in Turkey just outside Europe too, and Egypt around Hurghada. Further afield there's a bit of South Africa and Latin America with the Mayan Riviera of Mexico and Rio de Janeiro, Paraty and Isla Grande in Brazil. There's even a bit of Northern Ireland and parts of England mixed in with the nonsense of East Anglia in a camper van with my daughters! If you enjoy one video please watch another and consider subscribing so you don't miss future uploads however crap they might be! Thanks and regards, Mark

    Thanks for this video. My brother just ordered the same machine, and it will be delivered tomorrow. I'm gonna start scanning our total 60 hours of family films.
    Knowing that you are so enthusiastic after even 50 hours of film scanning with the Reflecta is a boost for us.

      It was a brilliant purchase, I did a job fully and properly that had been put aside a hundred times since childhood for a fraction of the commercial price...and made a profit when I sold the machine on eBay after I had finished 😁

    I think you will find that the sprocket holes on super8 are not smaller but they are at right angle to the original 8. The original 8 was supplied as a 25' length of 16mm film. During process the film was split down the middle and the two lengths spliced. On super 8 it was supplied as a continuous 50' length and by turning the sprocket holes it left more room on the film for the picture and hence better quality.

    Interesting and informatrive video, opens the door to retrieving old movies etc.Thanks for making it.
    There appears to be several versions of this scanner around, under makes/names like wolverine, reflect and others. Does anybody know if they are the all the same base machine rebadged, or do they have higher scan resolutions etc?

    This is super helpful thank you. I have 133 3" reels at about 50ft each... New to film, so not sure what you mean about having to load on to a 5" and cut to then load back? What do you gain from doing that?

    • @Codbotherer
      @Codbotherer  2 года назад +1

      Hi, I had some 7 or 8" reels which were made up of lots of spiced 3" reels 'back in the day' and were too wide for the scanner dimensions so had to cut them and transfer the film onto smaller reels, then rejoin them after. The 3" reels are fine as is and don't take long to go through so need to splice them.

  • @andybradley

    have you tried rigging it with bigger then 5" reels rather then splitting them down? Also what settings have you generally been going with SHARPNESS and EXPOSURE? Thanks

    • @Codbotherer
      @Codbotherer  3 года назад

      can load a 7" or 8" reel into it from an external editing reel to reel thing my grandfather made decades ago but cant output it onto one as you need it powered somehow to take up the slack. Splitting it down, as long as you have a pair of 5 inch reels, is easy though and takes little time and with the quick splice tapes it's seconds to reattach and to be honest I cant see us ever setting the projector up again now. I tried adjusting the exposure, auto was far better. Sharpness was better left as is too otherwise it increases the graininess. Basically, he default settings were the best each time I fiddled. A basic colour cast correction would be great though

    Please. How about the sound track. My films have a magnetic sound track.

      You need a different machine for sound

    I have some std 8 reels dating back to the 70's which we would like to convert. The problem is some of the film has damaged sprocket holes due to an error made when threading it into the projector years ago. Would the Reflecta cope with this damaged film? I'd also rather not spend £400 on something I'd use for a week or two and then not need again. Do you know where I could hire one? Or do you know someone who does the conversion as a service? Thanks, Malcolm

      Hi, I'm not sure regarding the damaged sprocket holes. I bought one new, used it for all our films - cheaper than getting a quarter of them done commercially - then sold it on eBay for a profit. Maybe worth looking what they are selling on there for now and what you can find them for new? Lots of people do conversion but it's £££

      @@Codbotherer Many thanks. Do you remember how the film feed through the imaging section worked? If it's rollers with a stepper motor the damaged sprocket holes might not be a problem. Perhaps there's someone reading this thread who would be prepared to hire me their unit for a week or two?

      Sadly I can't, sorry. I did a few videos on it though and have a feeling one of them might show that in more detail. I'm away and phone bound with limited data though. Sorry I can't help more!

    Edit: This film is one of a series of films, the title "Review" is a bit misleading, actual presentation and examples are in other films
