Thanks Charlie. I hadn't thought about reducing the opacity of the normal mode to see what happens! I'll try that too! Also starting from 0 and bringing the blend in seems like a much more ordered approach. :)

Its an easy one to miss out. Its how the camera makes its multiple exposures in average mode - but thats just a set 50%.
