      There's a few ways you can do this with film and printing. You can take 2 to 3 exposures at half or a third of the exposure time as you're moving the Camera and then. Using one sheet of photographic paper expose all three images onto the paper. One of the other way used to do multiple exposures within the Camera by clicking the release button and winding on without actually winding the film on. Again you have to reduce your exposure time to allow for multiple images on the same piece of film.

    As always, this is a very informative video. Thanks so much. I’m curious about your ISO settings, because I see that they vary quite a lot from one image to another. What is your thinking about setting and changing the ISO, along with aperture and shutter speed?

    • @charlottebellamycreativeph9021
      @charlottebellamycreativeph9021 3 месяца назад

      Hi Claudia - my ISO I try to keep at 50 or 100 when I am doing ICM. You may have seen higher ISO readings when I was showing the sharp images - then I don't mind too much increasing my ISO to ensure I keep a good depth of field or a fast enough shutter speed if I am not using a tripod (which I rarely do!). I tend to think cameras have such good capabilities with ISO these days, I think nothing of going to 800 and will even use 12,800 if I don't have my tripod with me and still want the shot. With ICM I tend to select a shutter speed and adjust the depth of field first, then ISO. Hope that helped. Glad you enjoyed the video,

    Hi Charlotte. What a spectacular walk through bluebell woodlands. You've shown many different images with slightly different exposure times and movements that in just 30mins of your video I've learned so much about the intricacies of ICM and this has given my so many ideas for adopting & trying out for myself. I think for me I really like the images created around the 1 second exposure so 8862 & 8890 were images I really liked, and again you've demonstrated that different movements can result in totally different images, some I loved and others not so much, an important lesson indeed. I thought the long exposure image (8845) was a really interesting experiment and I really liked the result that you've achieved so something else to experiment with. The images I really liked (apart from most of those you showed!!) were 9309 as I think it is simply stunning and a beautiful image, it hasn't lost its sense of place or focus but the ICM lifts the resulting image really well. I also really like the close-up flower images ( love flower photography) particularly 9188 which I thought was stunning and your ICM movement gave a painterly affect with the small circular movement. I really like 8909 as a flower image, it's beautiful!! and, as an experiment, would really like to see this as a combined image with 8912 as a texture and blended in Photoshop. I'm wondering if you have ever considered experiment with portrait mode particularly with the close-up flower images so that the flowers are shown from their roots and the trees in the background are more defined - just a thought? Thank-You for this video🙏 , it has given me so many ideas to think about and experiment with in my image making. Cheers, Stu 🤓

      Stu, thank you so much for a wonderful reply to my video. Its blown me away how much you have taken from what I presented to you. Part of learning ICM is also learning what YOU like. Anyone can teach what they do, but ICM is all about personal interpretation. I often get asked what makes a bad or good ICM image and really there is not a definitive answer - because if you love what you create, that is the most important thing. That awareness will come with time when you make an image and look at the back of the camera with excitement - that should tell you what you like. Build on this and you will also find your own style. 8 years ago I learned ICM 'bar code' style - over time i have finessed that towards what i like personally in my images, not what i think it necessarily should be. I thought your lovely long thought out comment deserved a thoughtful answer as i really appreciate you taking the time to make it.

I wouldn't have thought of combining multiple images in this way, but the affect is stunning, at least they are in your images 😀 I have a question for you. When you start to blend the 2nd batch of images (around 12mins) you say the combination is "still flat". I'm just wondering what you mean by this? Thanks... Stu 🤓

    • @charlottebellamycreativeph9021
      @charlottebellamycreativeph9021 3 месяца назад

      Hi Stu - 'flat' is a feeling of how much depth the image has when you look at it. Do you feel carried through the image, or do you feel that it is 2 dimensional and that you are looking at something rather than into it. Hope that helps. I love to encourage the viewer into my images and ensuring that the light is variable throughout the image can help with this.

    Hi Charlotte. Thank you Charlotte for such wonderful tutorial!! I discovered your ICM art & techniques through Kim Grant a while back, and watching your videos and admiring your images has inspired me to experiment with creating my own ICM images. Being able to listen to & learn about your ICM journey and the techniques you use is proving to be a real inspiration for me and I am learning so much - thank-you. I'm still at the beginning of my ICM journey but last week whilst at a rocky beach on the south coast of Wellington, NZ I just wasn't inspired by the seascape scenes so I experimented with ICM and the rocky foreshore. The images I created definitely divided opinion among my friends, some like them others not so much but I'm okay with that. However one friend living in the states likes a couple of my images so much he wants to hang prints up in their house - amazing!! Once again thank-you 🙏 Stu H 😎

      @@charlottebellamycreativeph9021 Thank-You for your lovely reply. Through listening to Kim I've learnt to be more considered and thoughtful about my image creation so learning about how you approach ICM is building on my being more mindful of the scenery I'm in and the images I want to create. So glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the comment. Its a process I use a lot to balance back ICM images that have lost a little of what I originally saw in the scene.

    Great video! Just one thing, how do you manage to keep the tulip in the focus area when you click the shutter button ,and know exactly in which direction to move the camera in order to get two or three tulips? I've noticed that in your live view mode you have a circle, or focus ring. I'm not aware that my nikon d5300 has this feature. Any tips please?

      Hi, thanks for your comment. I use either back button focus with auto focus or I move the focus point around the scene depending on where I want the focus with manual focus. I'm afraid I can't remember which one in this. With regards to where to move the camera - the direction is a personal choice, but if I want the tulips to appear separate I make sure I give them some space where I want to move too initially. To get 2 tulips, you need to hold the camera still twice, to get 3 you need 3 times and so on. I hope that helps?

      @@charlottebellamycreativeph9021 Thank you Charlotte, I'm going to try with back button focus with auto focus and compare it to manual focus. Then I'll stick with the easier of the two! 😅 I'll see how it goes, I guess the moving part is trial and error. I'll have your video on when practising. Have a great day!

    Very informative. I've done some ICM in the past with only small success. I'm so excited now to play with different ICM techniques. Thanks!

    Really enjoyed this presentation, Charlie. I have a question about the photos you took with the iPhone app, near the end of your presentation. I am wondering how you get such vibrant colours when using your phone? I find mine to be quite muted, lacking contrast and kind of dull. I’ve tried changing up various settings in the apps but I’m still not getting rich colours like you just showed. Thanks a lot!

      I think it probably has to do with starting with a contrsating image - so even if its just browns there are normally creams in there to contrast to. I also use light a lot so that the colours pop out against the other elements. Hope that helps - otherwise no secret!

    This was fantastic Charlotte - I have dabbled with ICM but wasn't always what I was trying to do. This has given me so much information and areas to focus on. I primarily take wildlife images - your ones of the geese were brilliant!

      Thanks for such an enthusiastic response - I have loved making the geese images, its been a long learning curve but when it all builds and you see what you want in the back of the camera it is very satisfying. Enjoy. Charlie

    Thank you Charlotte for such wonderful tutorial. I wonder if you have played attempting to simulate ICM in your post processing workflow, starting with a "normal" image. Do you have any comments about that? Thank you.

      Thanks so much for your comment. Yes I have experimented with this. It is good to know how to do it, and in one project I was 'missing' an image to complete the set and made it in this way to compliment the other 'real' ICM images. I love the images where there is one small elemsnt still sharp and the rest has been manipulated, although I tend to do this via multiple exposure now. Just be aware that creating ICMs in PS - the edges of the canvas always show a very sharp line detail which is a give away to a judge or anyone else looking at the image that it has been created in post production.
