    “Blue light over murder for me” is better understood from a UK perspective as emergency vehicles have blue lights. Instead of suicide which is murder of himself, he failed that and the blue lights took him to the hospital where he has now awakened to the cruel reality that not even his own life he could take the way he chose. The ultimate failure.

      The other theory is he and his significant other had an altercation while on the road. The vehicle went off in the water, he survived and she didn’t. The murder wasn’t against self, but his realization of what he caused.

    "Anything to get me to Sleep" is a double meaning in this song. Anything to get him to sleep normally given all of his stress, but "Sleep" is also the name of the deity that he references throughout the trilogy.

    There's generally two interpretations of the song I've seen. Some feel it is about his former lover's miscarriage. I believe it is about a failed suicide attempt and waking in the hospital. I think both can be lyrically justified. Either way, it's a beautiful monument to pain and healing.

      As a later convert to Sleep Token, only ever having heard this song as immediately following Bloodsport, I'm definitely in the suicide camp. It would track that an attempt on his life would take place between albums, and it adds to the overall narrative.

    • @JoaoLopes92Yn
      @JoaoLopes92Yn 5 месяцев назад +8

      I can add one more: there's a constant theme of a "car crash" with vessel and the "former lover" in the car in sleep token lyrics, so, this may be the waking up in the hospital after the car crash. Theory is she died in the crash and etc. I accept this theory and the two you mentioned as plausible, though I tend do choose or want to believe more in the "suicide attempt" one as its emotions are more relatable to my own, but words like "eyes like frozen planets... orbiting the vaccum I am" "it's a pain they know they don't understand", actually fit in both theories, but I lean toward the suicide interpretation. Probably one of the most beautiful things Vessel does is this, giving us so many possibilities and interpretations, that to me are all plausible, but it doesn't matter which one is accurate, what matters is what we take from his lyrics, sound and expression. Very few artists express themselves in such a creative and unique way like this, and... the metaphors, oh the metaphors.

    • @earthscorcher

      I see it as both interpretations combined, honestly.

    • @shdw.206

      The suicide interpretation makes the most sense imo. So much can be connected to suicide, and its clear that he tried several things. It’s interesting to see how his mental state progresses through albums. Nazareth almost paints him as toxic and borderline murderous, but then hes attempting suicide in atlantic. Then in DYWTYLM hes struggling to like who he is. So much more in between tells a very compelling story that is still up to interpretation to connect to on a personal level. Even covers tell the story through his unique insights and interpretations. Hey ya shines a light on the lyrics and strips the happy tone of the song, making it tell a story that might have been relatable for him. I could go on for hours but i dont got the space lmao

    Super emotional song. I definitely agree with the people saying that a failed suicide attempt is the subject here.
    “Eyes like frozen planets just orbiting the vacuum I am” that line is insane. I can’t help but think this is something he actually went through. I don’t think he could have written this song the way it is if he hadn’t been through it.

    Everyone who's listened to the entire discography certainly knows that there is a story being told feom the first song on their first EP all the way to the last song on their third full album. People that have heard a few songs off each album probably also catch the connection, bits and pieces. He's always mentioning a tragic accident. "Body in your passenger seat-2nd hand smoke or the glass on the street-keep an eye on the road or we will both be here forever" then there's "marks on the dashboard and new scars that I didn't ask for-I miss the man I was the moment we took off-I hate who I have become every time I wake up". He talks about a "two way collision". The wreck happens after a toxic night out, they are fighting in the car, a collision happens and they end up in the water. He lived but unfortunately she doesn't. Atlantic is him unconscious seeing flashes probably thinking they both died only to wake up surrounded by people telling him what happened that couldn't possibly understand what he's about to go through. He's trying to shut out what everyone is saying and he wishes he never woke up and was still under water with her. There's a possibility she was pregnant and they would have had a daughter and it's also quite possible since then he's attempted to reunite with her in death. In the video for Fall For Me he's staggering across a beach desperately trying to reach the ocean and he eventually wades out into the ocean and disappears.

    • @Fire_Dawg
      @Fire_Dawg 5 месяцев назад +3

      I think this is pretty close to the mark. The only things I would add is that ''Blue light over murder'' could mean the lights of the police cars in the UK are just blue unlike our red and blue in the states. Secondly it may have been that she was pregnant with twins, ''built from future daughters'' so it seems its more than one daughter.
      I cant even imagine the psychological trauma one would experience waking up in the hospital and coming to grasp the weight of all of that. You would truly feel like you were going to crush in to sand.

    • @0nce0nFire420
      @0nce0nFire420 5 месяцев назад +2

      The weight he has carried with him since the tragedy is indescribable indeed. I couldn't possibly even begin to imagine the darkness he lived in after that being a father of two myself. As for the lyric crushing into sand, I kinda feel like he wants to crush the sobbing statues into sand. Or he's so angry he feels like he could explode therefore turning statues into sand maybe? He does say he's trying not crush into sand. Idk...the beautiful thing about lyrics is they can mean different things to different people so no interpretation is ever really inaccurate.

  • @ThaStranger11
    @ThaStranger11 5 месяцев назад +8

    Lyrically probably my favorite ST song. I've analyzed the lyrics quite a bit and my interpretation is that our protagonist is waking up in the hospital after causing some kind of accident, likely a car accident, that got somebody killed. They feel so much guilt that they feel they murdered that person and would almost rather die than live with the guilt. In that moment of being told what happened, they just want the hospital to finish bandaging them up from the accident, "flood" them full of pain meds, anything so they can just be left alone.
    What says it's an accident imo and not something like attempted soo-i-side is the line: It's blue light over murder for me.
    They obviously feel they ended someone. They wouldn't say that if it were something self-inflicting in nature.
    Either way, amazingly written song. As a drummer Vessel really opened my eyes to the brilliance in both singing and lyricism. ✌️🙏

  • @unknowngaming1432
    @unknowngaming1432 5 месяцев назад +7

    My take is that its a story, the first time you hear the "Call me when they bury bodies under water," its Vessel talking about how he is feeling in the moment. The pain hes going through and how he wishes it would end. The second part is the aftermath of breakdown, relapse, etc. And how people act to it. And then the repeated end kinda just wraps it up showings its still there but its covered up in something pretty as the rest of the band and the effects kick in.

    This song is a gut punch for me. There are a couple of interpretations of it - for me it reminds me of a late term loss I went through. The beauty of Vessel's writing is that while sharing his experiences and feelings he leaves room for us to also see the songs through the lens of our experiences. I think this song might make a bit more sense in the context of the whole album. "This place with become your tomb" is a beautiful, moody, and emotional album. Side note, some of the lyrics are off. As someone who has been through everything this song describes and more, I think it’s a testament to how well you interpret artistry that you were able to pull a painful message with such expertise. • @aberryth_dev
    @aberryth_dev 4 месяца назад +1

    My interpretation - just born out of wild imagination for this entire album, is that he and his partner were arguing about trying to have a child, and they were in an accident (maybe a car crashing off a bridge) and she ended up drowning. Since my brain came up with that imagery, I've never been able to hear this, or "high water" any other way.
    Edit, to explain further:
    The title "this place will be your tomb", and the constant references to being beneath water
    This song, and others, referring to how he WANTS to be under water (possibly to end up dying and being with her)
    "Blue light over murder for me" makes me think of the blue UV light used in criminal investigations, and how he feels responsible, as though it's the logical conclusion, if someone were to just look at the situation, emphasised by the line "wash away the blood on my hands". Could also be that he was shocked to see an ambulance rather than being promptly sentenced for murder.
    Also in High Water, the phrase "I know you still bare the weight of your own existence, and you'll never bear the weight of two" was given FAR too much attention (instrumental cuts out, harmonies, and silence immediately afterwards) in the song to just be a throwaway line. I think it's alluding to her inability to have children, either unable to in life, or unable to now that she's not alive.
    Then, as a little bonus, again in high water, "we both buried that history deep" and "we both know, I can hold my breath forever" sounds like a bitter, subliminal joke-insult, just like the above line. As though to say "you buried (some sort of past) metaphorically, and I buried you literally", and "I can hold my breath (metaphorically), and wait in hope forever, but couldn't hold your breath (literally) forever, or else you wouldn't have drowned".
    But the biggest one for me personally is the line "They talk me through the damage, consequence and how its a pain they know they don't understand". Not once have I ever heard someone say that they don't understand what it's like being depressed or suicidal. People either DO understand, or they THINK that they do. But I HAVE (often) heard people say that they can't possibly understand the pain of losing their partner - particularly in an accident, and even more so if the person was directly involved in it.

    Try their song Euclid if you want something with a more hopeful/overcoming vibe. It’s the last track on the most recent album that acts as a bookend to the trilogy. It references a lot of previous songs in clever ways and provides some sense of closure. “Are you really ok” is another with heavy themes but trying to find a way out rather than giving up.

    He tried to commit suicide...and failed. As someone with enough friends, and a partner, who have failed...and someone who has suffered herself and got close, I understand this song well.
    As Hard Harry says in Pump Up The Volume, "You see, no-one wants to hear it. But the terrible secret is that being young is sometimes less fun than being dead."
    But as he also says later in that same movie, "They say I'm disturbed. Well, of course I'm disturbed. I mean, we're all disturbed. And if we're not, why not? Doesn't this blend of blindness and blandness want to make you do something crazy? Then why not do something crazy? It makes a helluva lot more sense than blowing your fucking brains out."
    And, even if listening to this song hurts, he decided to sing it to give all of us who have suffered something to tell us we're not alone. His crazy thing? He and II the drummer made a bunch of amazing music for the world, dress up to hide themselves, and enjoy the hell out of giving tours to all of us. So even if this song is about something dark...at least he's still around. And hopefully he'll stick around. His newest album shows that he's getting past these things. He'll be alright.
    This was the first song of their second album, This Place Will Be Your Tomb. The album itself, you see how he evolves and becomes someone new. Someone still broken, yes...so many of us are broken. But he got past it. Thank goodness.

    I interpret this song to be about a man wrecking into the ocean with his fiance in the car and she dies but he survives and blames himself. Like a survivor's guilt sort of thing. "call me when they bury bodies under water, it's blue light over murder for me" his partners body was not recovered but he still wants to be buried with her. Blue light over murder is just light filtered through water and a reference to his guilt. "marry in the morning. EARN your bitter father. it's easier to try not to eat" they were going to be married in the morning but he could never earn her father's approval. He then wakes up in the hospital and his family and friends have to give him the news of his partner's death. The song seems to make the most sense to me through this lens.

    • @brianalmeida1964

      @timazimarillion, there is a discrepancy in the lyrics you've quoted! It's "MERRY in the morning. Earn your bitter FODDER. It's easier to try not to eat." Fodder, meaning food makes the next line about trying not to eat actually make sense. Otherwise, that line makes no sense and is totally out of context. If you search for the lyrics online, rather than rely on this unofficial fan made lyric video, you should find the appropriate lyrics. Try either Genius or AZLyrics, but be careful as sometimes it has the composers' actual names at the bottom!!! Stay safe 🤘 ✌️
